The suburb of Beecroft is located 22 km north-west of the Sydney central business district. In 1886 the train line came through here and Sir Henry Copeland, Minister of Lands, conducted a survey of the area for residential development. He named the suburb after the maiden name of his two wives, Hannah and Mary Beecroft (two sisters he married in succession). His personal life raises all kinds of questions doesn't it. Wonder just how much of a knight he really was, though of course it all may be innocent also.
Beecroft station opened in 1886. The original Beecroft station was located further south of the existing platform, approximately adjacent to the Beecroft tennis courts. The current station location opened in 1892. Currently, the station is accessed via an underpass and staircase - thus no Easy Access for wheelchairs. The ticket office used to be in the underpass, but was relocated onto the platform. I'm sure those guys appreciated being released from the dungeon below.
We got the train here from Meadowbank to do a walk in the preserved areas before we discovered Kuring-gai Chase National Park next to Hornsby, just north. Beecroft Station Park is adjacent, for any kids. As I have said before, if you don't have kids, that can be arranged. Ask me how and you might get an answer. read more
