A person must be at least 62 to be accepted and must come in at the Independent level. There are several financial packages available. Whatever the rental cost of their apartment in Independent will be the same cost if the resident requires any of the other services as time goes on. In Independent Living, where I am most familiar, meals are provided in two fine restaurants and a cafe, and weekly cleaning is provided if you want it. Many people compare the living culture here with that of a cruise ship - there is access to a pool with a daily aqua aerobic class; yoga classes, balance and other exercise classes are available as well. There are also art classes; assorted classes in various topics by resident college professors; and to top is off there is a theater where professional and amateur performances are readily presented to the community and residents needn't even going outside. There is also a convenience store manned by volunteers and a Weekly Happy hour with music, wine and snacks. There is so much more! In my opinion after living here for eight years, I think it's a fine place to retire!

Although the quality of the facility, care and programming slipped somewhat over the years, things have nosedived dramatically since Kara became the new executive director. Food quality has declined, outside activities (bus trips for lunch or tours, etc.) have been significantly reduced and recently the facilities have been infested with bedbugs. To make matters worse there is absolutely no communication by Kara with outside family to explain or even acknowledge any of these issues, leaving us to be detectives to find out what is happening there. This is not acceptable for a facility charging $3,000 per month. An executive director who does not respond to telephone calls or emails is also not acceptable. In my opinion the friendly, family atmosphere of Amberleigh is gone, replaced by one of collect money, don't acknowledge problems and keep family in the dark. Needless to say, we are moving my sister out ASAP.

When she first moved in there were linen table clothes and the tables were clean and set up for the next group of diners. The food was cooked well and hot when served. And the food tasted good. Not so any more. There are not enough servers. The pay scale at Amberleigh is very low. The employees need to be paid a living wage. Perhaps that would encourage people to apply for work at Amberleigh. The staff turnover is very high. The carpets in the halls are dirty and need to be replaced. The elevators are filthy and in need of a deep cleaning. Amberleigh has been very good about increasing the rent each year. On the plus side, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The entertainment provided by Amberleigh is great! My mother has made many friends and enjoys spending time with them.

Brompton Heights, in my opinion, is one of the best I have ever walked into. After 40 years as a professional in the medical field, I have seen many many things, both good and bad. I am especially keen to keep an eye out for things that aren't so good in the nursing home industry. My loved one's assisted living journey began at another local facility. Because of the less than good care that was received he moved to Brompton Heights. This is a decision our family will never regret. There was also never a day or even a moment when he or his family was not treated with respect and dignity. He was without a doubt, a member of the Brompton community. He sadly left us on 12/31/24 because of recurrent cancer while under Hospice care. My biggest concern and fear upon learning his cancer had returned was how his pain would be managed. I was truly scared of this unknown. I can now honestly say that there was never a time where his physical or emotional needs were not met within a short period of time I can only speak to the tremendous staff on the North unit but I have no doubt that the South unit demonstrates the same incredible quality of care. Every single person in every single department that met him treated him as he deserved to be treated, as someone who mattered. Almost every single time I walked into the facility I would see a staff member or two, or three gathered with a resident offering comfort and sharing a story or telling jokes I am grateful for the care that my loved one ( and my family members ) received during the time at Brompton. Thank you each and everyone one of you from the bottom of my heart.

My 91 year old mother just completed a rehab stay at Harris Hill after a fall. She and I were both…read morevery happy with the facility. The vast majority of the staff were absolutely wonderful - and there seemed to be plenty of people to take care of the residents. My mother also felt that the quality of the rehab was quite good. The only thing she complained about was the quality of the food. It seemed to be hit or miss. Some meals were decent, some were not so great. So I knocked off 1 star for that. But overall, if the need ever arises we wouldn't hesitate to go back there.

Oh, where to begin with regard to this "nursing facility?"…read more I'll preface my review by saying that I wouldn't send a cockroach to stay here...although given the cleanliness of the place I'm sure more than a few have taken up residence, and more than likely permanent placement. My dad was here for approximately three weeks for "rehab" after having major surgery. The only reason he went here was because they were the only facility in the surrounding area that had a bed open. I remember the place being called "Harris Hellhole" by people who worked there back in the day, but I figured maybe things had changed since then. Well, how very wrong I was. We had issues with his "care" (term used loosely) from day one. Rude, unprofessional and downright incompetent staff. Inconsistent therapy schedules. Absolutely FILTHY rooms. Insane response times to call buttons. No one answering the front desk phone after like 5 PM. Not being washed enough. Being left to fester in his own waste for 30-45 minutes at a time, and staff getting nasty when asked to help him. Food that was often lukewarm at best. A bed that only functioned properly half the time. Being told to "stop using your call button so much old man." Oh, and I wouldn't be exaggerating to say that they damn near killed him twice. I won't elaborate on that here. All of this taken together set his rehab back significantly. This is all to say nothing of the overpowering stench of urine and feces from the moment you walk in. (It's either that or the rotting flesh of corpses stacked ten feet high somewhere.) I get that it's a nursing home and not a mansion, but come on now. It needs a good deep cleaning at least once a week! Not to mention the many residents you can hear crying "hello, please help me!" from their rooms, with no response from staff, or the ones roaming the halls being ignored as well. You're practically begging for a lawsuit, much like that squalid craphole called Comprehensive Rehab in Williamsville is facing. That place needed to be condemned YEARS ago and every employee within it thrown in jail. HH should face the same fate with the exception of maybe a handful of staff being spared the criminal charges; namely the social worker whose first name starts with an L. If by chance you're reading this, get out of there. You can apply your great people skills and do so much good elsewhere. Perhaps in the VA Healthcare System. People, for the love of all things sacred, do NOT send your loved ones here. They just might die from the lack of proper care. My dad is on his way to a better place as of next week, but because of the neglect at HH he has been in the hospital since Monday. If God forbid you DO have someone here, get them out of you can. If that's not an option, monitor their time there VERY closely. Use your eyes and ears, document EVERY incident and report it to the NYS Department of Health and Ombudsman's office. Now, this is the part where I will get a canned response (probably AI) saying to contact the administrator with my concerns, or that my concerns have been passed on. Yeah, that ship has sailed and sunk. This person supposedly turned one of the Absolut Care locations around, but at HH they are as useless as basketball cleats. Myself and others in the family did just that, and nothing changed. Classic case of "we investigated ourselves and cleared ourselves of any wrongdoing." The aforementioned social worker was the only one who really helped in any way, but even they could only do so much. Oh, and don't be fooled by their cute little pictures on social media showing the residents playing bingo, interacting with therapy dogs and looking all smiles. The truth is something far more sinister, . They have a "five star" image to uphold, collateral damage be damned. Bottom line: Don't. Just don't.
