This is so unlike us as we tend to plan our vacations, months in advance. My husband plans…read moreeverything to the last detail. This time, it was a last minute, impromptu road trip, to Niagara Falls, Canada, Maine, Cape Cod. On leaving Niagara Falls, I was a bit concerned on our drive to Maine as we had no accommodations reserved. On calling a few hotels in the area, we found out that they were all full. I suggested a BnB to my husband but he seemed very hesitant as we had never stayed in one before. I called a few BnB's in the area and they were all full. One of the ladies suggested that I call the chamber of commerce in Bar Harbor. On calling the Chamber, we were given the name and numbers of 3 BnB's. That is how we got to Bass Harbor Inn. We got there late at night and Barbara the Inn Keeper had made it easy for us to access her BnB and left the lights in the room on for us. The room though small was clean and comfortable. We had a half a bath inside in our room which was pretty small but functional and clean. We did have to step out of the room to take a shower which we did not mind as it was very private and clean. The whole house was extremely quiet which gave us a much needed restful night. Upon waking up in the morning, we joined Barbara and her husband Alan for breakfast. Barbara was extremely helpful and full of knowledge about the area. She gave us a few maps and recommended that we go to Acadia National Park. The breakfast was very simple. It consisted of juice, coffee, and baked breads. We had a wonderful day at Acadia National Park and came home to a good night sleep. We checked out this morning. My husband overcame his skepticism of BnB as he felt the stay was very comfortable. His only suggestion was that he expected a better breakfast.

From the moment I called the Bass Harbor Inn, the experience was unpleasant. The owner was…read moreEXTREMELY rude, abrasive and short on the phone (SPOILER: She's also rude in person). The place only has wifi in the owners house (although to their credit, we were able to connect in our room despite being told we would be unable to get a signal). The real surprise came after dinner. When we arrived back at our room and began to get settled in, I noticed a bug on the wall. No big deal, as a one bug can get into another room. And then i saw another, and another, and then some on the floor, and crawling out from the painting! In total, I counted FIFTEEN BUGS! At this point we are of course not staying in the room. So I proceed to the office and buzz the door since its after hours. No response. I buzzed even longer the second time......Still no response. I buzzed a third time, for what seemed like an eternity and still got no response. At this point, I decided to start knocking on the door, as this was a serious issue and i got no response using the buzzer (which tells you to ring it after hours). No response. I pounded on the door a second time and after a few minutes someone finally comes. It was the husband, who unlike the lady running the place, was apologetic to our problems and took us to another room.....WHICH HAD MORE BUGS ON THE WALL. I went back downstairs to address the new bug problem and out comes the lady. She marches up to the rooms asking "what is this I hear about a bug problem in room 5?". She marches in and I show her the bug on the wall, which is crawling around (EWWWWW!). She proceeds to smush it with her finger and told us she had not charged our card yet but did not offer us a third room and gave us a glaring look as though she had fixed the problem and we should be grateful to have a second bug filled room. Is a bug free room that much to ask for?! Thankfully we had family staying at the local campground in an RV, otherwise we probably would have been out in the rainstorm. STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
