We recently boarded our 11yr old golden retriever with the DSPCA in Rathfarnham. She was there for…read morea total of seven nights and when I picked her up I knew immediately that she was not well. The first thing I noticed was the incredibly bad smell coming from her to the extent that all windows in the car had to be opened. When we arrived back to our home she started having diarrhoea and I rang the kennels to ask had she been ill while we were away. I was told 'no' she had been fine. However when she went to stand up her back legs wouldn't support her and the diarrhoea was getting worse. I took her straight to my vet and was told she had an infection and her legs had seized up as she was probably left lying in the same position for hours. Jessie has arthritis in her back legs and I was assured she would get regular walks in the kennels which obviously was not the case! To sum up Jessie had to get 3 injections, course of antibiotics and special food plus a follow up appointment. When we made a formal complaint to the dspca we were met with a complete blanket denial of neglect on their part and was never once asked how our dog was or any concern for her welfare whatsoever. I would not recommend anyone to put their dog into the dspca boarding kennels.

It's 22e per day and the facilities are first rate. They have a vet given its located on same site as DSPCA and also a grooming parlour. (and her sister for about 4 years) When I ring to book her in, they know her straight away and they love her (shes a sweetheart). I've tried other kennels in the past and my dog came home with a stomach infection, fleas, bordetella, you name it she got it. But fircroft is in a league of its own. Wonderful people and wonderful facilities. I would highly recommend it if you are living in the County Kildare region. It is pricey, but honestly I think it is worth it, knowing that your dog is in the best hands and knowing that you have nothing to worry about. There is nothing worse than worrying about your pup when you aren't 100% sure about kennels. Go for it, I know you won't be disappointed
