It's very sweet (like clover honey from anywhere) and has a freshness that is hard to find in store-bought honey. It's bottled raw, but the consistency is smooth and barely runs. Upon opening, there is a pretty white film at the top. I just ran out of my usual large jar of Harmony Honey from the Portland Saturday market and was devastated that my honey man won't be around till spring (ok, the address IS on the jar, so I could crash his farm. if only he'd get a website. that honey is floral and light). Alternatively, I searched New Seasons and after scoffing at the honeys from Iowa and New Zealand, and I found some down home local honey from Forest Grove, OR ($5.99/24oz)! It comes in the same jar as local Chonga's Salsa, so I presume they are some sort of deal for a small business. I'll have to keep my eye out for more of these hidden jems with black lids in the future. I love Oregon food!

Something about accustomizing yourself to pollen year round. He claimed that it had worked wonders for him, and he puts it in his tea on a daily basis. While I'm not a tea drinker, I thought... why not try it in my morning coffee? It's a simple matter to squeeze some honey into your drink as opposed to a packet of sugar, so I thought... why not. Coffee purists are probably grating their teeth right now, but I don't care. Last summer was the first full summer I'd been able to tangibly test results and... there was seemingly some improvement. Now, I'm not crippled by allergies, only inconvenienced. I can tell you with certainty that I was less inconvenienced last summer than in any summer in recent memory. Enough of my plight with allergies. This honey tastes GREAT! I buy it in bulk, which translates to a 5 lb. jar (~$17, give or take) every other month or so. This honey has also become a component of my mustard based BBQ sauce, and I can tell you with confidence that I would consider no other brand. It's that good. Sweet, dark, complex, savory... it's really fantastic. The product itself deserves 5 stars, but the packaging earns 3 stars. I'm not going to tell you what my specific beef with the packaging is, but I can tell you that I'm going to contact them directly with a simple request. If that materializes, I will definitely update to 5 stars.

In the small freezer are frozen pies made with fresh fruit from Willamette Valley. some fresh pies are also available in small and large sizes. While there you can also pick up milk, yogurt, cheese. Cottage cheese, and eggs making this a one stop shopping experience. They only have 1-2 varieties of each, but they're the brands I like. So happy I stopped in. When I go to Trader Joe's down the street, I'll stop here first for my fruits and veggies and the eggs which are just $4.99 and local.

This year's event begins on Friday, October 12, and runs through Sunday, October 21. During the festival the nursery offers over sixty varieties of apples and pears, all for only 99 cents a pound, as well as fresh-pressed cider and, on Fridays though Sundays, a tasting line where you can sample every kind of apple and pear the nursery has. Plenty of activity for kids, including a scavenger hunt, face painting, games, and pumpkin painting. Live music on both weekends and over a half dozen vendors. The nursery also sponsors the Annual Apple Tasting Food Drive, which benefits the Oregon Food Bank. Collections for the food drive end this year on the 24th. Like nearly everyone we pick up a good variety of apples and pears, debating later on about each variety's merits. We always grab a few kinds we've never tried. I'm partal to braeburns, king davids, spitzenburgs, and ambrosias (so popular that in years past there's been a one-bag limit), as well as Asian pears. There are also several rare, hard-to-find apple varieties. Get there early for the line for the free tastings. Give yourself ample time to find a parking spot since the nursery's lot is always full.

Smaller than the markets I typically visit, the vendors represent a wide array of goods. And I got my Hood strawberries! As with all markets, there were lots of fresh fruits and produce available. One stand even put together a sampler box of Hood strawberries, local cherries and sugar snap peas, 2 pints of each. Very clever! Menegon,, the French crepe and caramel stand had me at hello. I had to sample the caramel, coffee caramel, and chocolate caramel and they all were divine! Rather than buy the sample pack, I opted for the 6oz jar of regular caramel; it was so soft and buttery, fabulous on crepes but why stop there? Drizzle in ice cream, pound cake, even in coffee. Made without excess sugar and no preservatives, I'll be back for the coffee caramel next! Wild Roots, a local and outstanding vodka distiller was represented there, as they are at most Portland Farmers Markets. Forest Edge Vineyards, a small winery from Forest Grove was also there offering samples and had a variety of their wine for sale. Most bakery items (scones, croissants) were gone by 4:30 but there were breads and cookies still up for grabs. Jams, bbq sauces, fruit juices, chips & salsa, botanical flavored salts, and a few other stands rounded out the goods. Several hot foods available too! Open on Wednesdays from 2-6pm, this is a great little mid-week market. Parking is challenging for those like me who drive here from other areas, but I was able to find a spot. Vendors are all engaging and the entire atmosphere is friendly and neighborly.

Portland has the Portland Farmers Market group of 7 markets. The James Beard Market is in planning. But some neighborhoods have organized their own independently, drawing farmers and ready to eat food kitchens. They even have their own, up to date website. Musical performances. All ages friendly. And Captured by Porches serves beer. The Moreland Farmers Market is a small well curated independent farmers market to find fresh ingredients, or to dine out on the spot with neighbors.
