Unfortunately, our experience did not match those expectations. During a trial day, a young autistic child became upset after a developmentally typical frustration in a new environment. Instead of observing the calm support, co-regulation, and individualized approach we expected from a program with this stated level of expertise, we experienced a response that felt escalating rather than supportive. There were also concerns with the emotional regulation of the leading staff member, and online records that reinforced concerns related to emotional regulation and safety. The biggest concern was the disconnect between the program's stated philosophy and what we observed in practice. A moment that could have been handled as an opportunity for connection, regulation, and teaching instead left us questioning whether the environment was truly equipped to support autistic children in the way it represents, or any child. Ultimately I did not feel comfortable trusting my daughter to Magnolia. I am grateful we had the opportunity to see this before the school year began, but it was disappointing to have to reconsider so close to the start of school after believing we had found the right fit. Every child deserves a program whose practices match its promises.

The small class sizes and personalized learning at The Magnolia School have truly made a world of difference. I didn't think my high energy child with separation anxiety was going to fit in with the other children who were doing their work with such peace and grace, and it has been truly amazing to watch her transform and develop a sense of community and belonging at her school. Annie has a passion for children and meeting the needs of the child on multiple levels not just academically. Not only is my daughter learning her letters, sounds and numbers; more importantly she is learning, patience, concentration, care for her community and environment, independence and more! We are very happy with our choice for our child and our next daughter will be starting this year as well!

Her last week was full of tears about leaving her beloved school to move on to elementary. We feel she received a incredibly strong academic foundation from MSE, while also learning a love of nature, a sense of responsibility and mindfulness for others, and a feeling of joy in learning. The classroom is bright and peaceful, and the Montessori materials were engaging and challenging. The teachers at MSE are highly experienced Montessorians who care deeply about the children at the school. The teachers also hold parent education meetings, parent conferences, and an annual open house where the children show the parents the classroom materials. Parent observations during the school day are welcome; we did many over the years. The teachers were always open to our questions and requests to discuss issues relating to our child. We also enjoyed the many opportunities to interact with other parents at the school picnics, weekly park playdates, and monthly Mom's Night Out. We felt very lucky to be a part of the MSE community.

Given our children's ages, we have experience in the Nido, Toddler, and Children's House programs and would highly recommend all three. We have also attended the Westlake Guidepost location and have experience at two other daycares prior due to moving, so we feel we have a good breadth of experience from which to recommend Guidepost Bee Cave. The new head of school, Mike, who took over this summer, is nothing short of amazing. He has a young child himself and has an operational background that really shines in every aspect of quality and consistency at the school. Other reviews mention staff turnover, which I can confidently state is a challenge for every childcare center (certainly for all four we have attended). What makes Guidepost Bee Cave stand out in this area is 1) knowledge transfer about your child's unique needs 2) training of new guides 3) quick action to remediate challenging staff 4) transparent communications. These are all due to Mike's leadership and we have been amazed at the quality care our children receive as a result. The guides care so much about the children and frequently communicate observations through written notes, photos, and verbal check-ins at pickup and dropoff. Even the guides at the school who don't directly oversee our children know our children by name and always speak with them, even if our child is acting shy lol. We particularly appreciate Ms. Mackenzie, Ms. Alyssa, Ms. Jessica, Ms. Ashraf, Ms. Lekha, Ms. Christine, Ms. Debra and Ms. Shanice, but there are really too many wonderful guides to name. I highly recommend this school for anyone wanting to raise confident, independent little people in an environment where practical life skills are taught and "I can do it myself" is a mantra.
