An Esso in the heart of Bedford. You've got to keep an eye out for it in the jumble of businesses along the strip.

As someone who lives in the downtown core and doesn't have regular access to a car, this place has…read morebeen a convenient place to pick up a few groceries on more than one occaisson. It's definitely more of a convenience store than a "grocery store" despite it's name but it does stock a lot of grocery staples like bread, snacks, condiments, dairy, and sometimes even the odd produce. The prices are your typically inflated convenience store rates but not outrageous. A full size bag of chips probably runs around $3. There are no prices listed on the shelves so if you want to know mroe you'll have to ask at the counter. The selection varies often but I've bought everything from cheese slices, to ketchup, to a can of soup, to a bag of potatoes (which I was sooo excited to find as I'd forgotten to grab this at Pete's earlier in the week). If you live in the Brunswick st/Cogswell area there aren't really any other options for grocery type food, especially after lawtons in scotia square is closed (6pm most nights). Keep this place in mind for those odds and ends you need to pick up between grocery days. They're open until 10pm every day which has been a life saver a few times.

Everyone has their own Sobeys, and this one happens to be mine. It's not the biggest or newest…read morebuilding, but it's well stocked and the greens are fresh and usually pretty varied. The seafood and butcher's area is always clean and well presented, and the meat is delicious. They also have an excellent "Hippy Section", as I've always called it, full of healthy foods and ethical household supplies. I can't think of anything majorly wrong with this location. Sometimes they dont have everything I need (Artichokes, why are you never here?) but they come pretty darn close. It can be a bit tricky to finds things sometimes, but if you've ever played a point-and-click game, you can usually deduce where everything is. No basil in the the herb section? Check with the tomatoes up front. Can't find the pancake batter? Check with the syrup, not with baking. It's either a fun brain teaser, or a deeply frustrating exercise, depending on your mood. Plus the cashiers are always hilarious, which is always a bonus!

Also just a short jaunt off the 102. I am, however, re-evaluating my choice to pick this branch as my default place to buy food, and have found myself more and more using the larger, newer and better stocked Sobeys at the Larry Uteck exit off the 102. But back to this location, access can be a bit of a nightmare during rush hour since both HP rd and the Beford Hwy can get super backed up, and the surrounding intersections become hazardous to say the least when traffic peaks. The inside of the store seems new and bright, though the layout is a bit more confusing than other Sobeys. This could possibly be due to recent renovations, having to overlay a new layout over old infrastructure. Other than that, the staff are super friendly and seem to enjoy working there, which is always a good sign.
