Under NO circumstances should you go here. Came for a few drinks and realized it was under a…read moredifferent ownership and different bartenders....We ordered a long island iced tea and a couple of beers, which I ordered and I presumed to be Murphy's Stout. However, the beer coming the Murphy's Stout tap was actually Guinness! I should've known because we have been here before and the bartender said that they kind of cheat and put Guinness in the Murphy's labeled tap because not many people drink it. I should have asked but it's really shady doing so. After we ordered a Long Island Iced Tea, . I tasted it.. NASTY! I had watched the pour. Since I've drank Long Island teas for years.I know what is in it. When I saw one pour of well vodka and a majority of coke and seltzer , I became suspicious. I took a sip and yuck! I went to the head bartender (no manager on a Friday night, of course?) she said she was working there for many years. I asked her to make a new drink or refund She told me the drink was fine because she had made it! What? The other bartender corrected her. I asked why she said she had made the drink and she said she was confused. The bar was not busy so why lie? She took a glass and literally threw ice cubes in it. She took threw in a two shots which was not required shots of the drink, She filled more than half to 2/3 the glass with Coca Cola. I confronted her., She said, "this is German, we make drinks the way we like!" She continued, "we serve the lowest clientele and do they don't care." How does one respond to that? It was an expensive drink! She started arguing with me, repeatedly stating "which had more alcohol" and insisted I compare both drinks. Who cares? I wanted a properly mixed Long Island Tea. Darn. I told her I had watched the pour of the Long Island tea and what was in the drink; she said "well? we pre-mix everything. It is watered down but we are not a high class Irish Bar". It was not a good excuse . The drink she gave us was extremely substandard. And she charged me double for the drink because I returned the original drink, plus the other drink.. She said this is Germany. not America, so we do it as we please. When I asked her the recipe, she didn't know . She said it was pre mixed. So Disclose it. She said I don't care. I'm upset and I don't give a sh@$. We asked for a refund. The bartender said "we make it the way we like. If you don't like it. Too bad. What do you expect? It's not America!" No kidding! She said, "This is a low class Irish bar for students who want to get dunk. Watered down or not, they love to drink" . When I asked her why do you serve watered drinks and fake beer,. she said, "just want to make money." . I will never return to this place. I urge no one else to go to this place. Trust me. You'll get screwed. When I told them I would post on yelp, she said " who cares , yelp means nothing".

I always end up here getting my New Castle beer. Some nights are dead and most of the time it's so…read morebusy, you can't even move. The bartenders are always great and manage to serve drinks no matter how busy. Only 1 down fall is the bathrooms. There is times when drunks vomit all over the toilet, 1 guy vandalized the bathroom once, causing them to close the male's bathroom and they only have 1 toilette in the females. So in a nutshell, it's so busy that the bathrooms get destroyed, which stinks for the employees that have to pick it all up. No smoking at all inside!! Must stop in place if your visiting though.

Spousal Unit and I joined a boatload of friends (literally!) for a Christmas Market cruise on Gate…read more1. (Review of the cruise to be posted separately - but it will be great!). While wandering the old town and it's very nice market (and enjoying abundent gluewhein mit flaming rum) we settled down for a nice lunch at Schlenkerla. Great choice! First, the smoked beer. Not my favorite, but hey, when in Bamberg ya gotta try it. The menu was not extensive but that's not a negative. I think too many restaurants offer too many choices with too little quality. Not a problem here. My friends ordered gulasche soup; a baked potato with salad combination plate (with two "small" baked potatoes drenched with what appeared to be fifteen pounds of butter); very tasty sausage with very, very tasty sauerkraut; and what I ordered: Bamberg style stuffed onion with mashed potatoes. I thought I was being virtuous. I must rethink my definition. The two very large onions were stuffed with a pork/bacon/bread/herb mix then roasted. Delicate taste that paired beautifully with mashed potatoes and smoked beer/beef stock sauce. Wunderbar! Look, I'm not a fan of tourist traps. Schlenkerla is certainly well-promoted to all of the tour operators, but most of the diners were obviously local. The menu was the same for all, as was the service. Excellent choice, and highly recommended.

They are quite busy in summer, but they made space for our large group. Great hospitality. But for some reasons they do not entertain bachelor parties.
