I think it's great that this library backs onto the park. The library have some rather large windows where you can sit down in rather comfy seats, read the daily paper and sometimes look up to enjoy the views. I have found that all of the library stock is wide-ranging, good quality and up-to-date. My only criticism is that I think their library charges are a bit too high. I suppose you get what you pay for, but I still think it could be lower.

They have a free film club too which shows adult and children's films for free. It's situated right next to the Costa Coffee so you can get your book out and read with caffeine! There's been some vandalism which is such a shame - the Downham Estate is a rough neighbourhood but having such a brilliant resource right in the middle of it should be respected.

Downham has always been known to be a rough area, but nevertheless it feels like the staff work hard to engage with the community and make it a place that the residents can call their own. As well there being a good selection of books, DVDs and CDs and talking books, there are always loads of fun craft activities for children and story-times for babies and tots. There are at least 15 computers available for internet access. It's free and easy join the library (just show at least one proof of ID) and anyone can join, i.e.you don't have to be a Lewisham resident to qualify.

Sydenham Library is one of the smaller library branches, but I still think it does stock a good…read moreselection of adult fiction, non-fiction and children's books. I was particularly impressed with the Teenage section as well. There are also a good number of computer terminals, which I find handy if I need to quickly access the Internet or Microsoft Office. The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable. I cannot fault this library at all.

I think this is quite a charming characteristic though. They do stock really up-to-date books and they have a really good selection of adult non-fiction in particular for this medium-sized library. I know that is an odd description to use but there is a feel of very olden days here. The library itself is perfect, it isn't too big and daunting but not too small either! There is a big enough range of books here to explore, I am particularly keen on the poetry section that used to feature quite prominently. Cute library.

This small, rather old fashioned, library has been rather empty whenever I've visited. Although…read morethere are plenty of children's books and some comfy sofas, there isn't much space to wander and the banister around the staircase is enticing for children inclined to climb. There is a very small section of music and films, which could do with a re-vamp and the place isn't very inviting as a whole. On the positive side, it's in a convenient location -away from the town centre but if you're prepared to travel, you probably should.
