This is a long overdue review of my husband's stay at Hospiten while we were on vacation in early…read more2023. He became very ill the day before we were supposed to fly home to Los Angeles and was taken by ambulance from our resort to Hospiten. He was admitted and due to the serious nature of his medical situation, had to stay in the hospital for two weeks. I can't say enough about how caring and competent the doctors were and how clean and pleasant the facility was... especially compared to the overcrowded conditions and rushed doctors we dealt with once my husband was admitted to a hospital at home to continue his care! It's true that care at this private hospital isn't cheap, but it was far less expensive than hospital care in the US. Fortunately, we were able to have all of the costs from my husband's treatment and stay at Hospiten reimbursed by our medical insurance, but they required extensive documentation, so be sure to understand what your insurance will require and get a copy of all of the records you'll need before you leave the hospital! A big, belated thank you to Dr. Rebeca Roman, Dr. Oscar Hernandez, Dr. Adan Paul Cuevas Quintero and the rest of the staff for their kind and patient care and for making a horrible, stressful situation a little less scary!

They did not know how to respond to a patient in cardiac arrest and, as a result, I watched my father die before my very eyes. My untrained eye could see he was arresting, but the nurses screwed around complaining that he was too big for them to move for 7 minutes before calling an emergency (because I started screaming for help). They waited another 4 before beginning one-handed compressions on a 230 pound patient. My dad never had a chance. He was admitted for hyponatremia and left two nights later in a body bag. I'm pursuing legal representation, but attorneys are disinterested in the case because of cartels' involvement in the private hospital system. Bottom line, if you want to live...try ANY other hospital. This incident was beyond tragic and 100% avoidable. For the $30K USD we paid, Hospiten could afford to buy wall-mounted AED machines for each room on the floor. Instead, they rolled a huge box machine into my dad's room 20 minutes into his heart attack. When I went up to collect his things 3 hours after they evacuated him to the ER, the remnants and mess were still all over the place. I had to collect his hearing aids from feces on the bathroom floor and the nurses who were literally responsible for his death watched me drag all of his belongings down the hall in a pillowcase as I wept. This is sub-human care. I wouldn't trust these people to take care of animals much less humans.

No evidence of concern for his pain and zero checks to see how he was doing. We're on your 6 of sitting here and watching the attendants avoid our gazes. Be prepared to pay, wait, and be ignored. He was also generally unhappy and fussy for a couple of days prior to that. It also felt like he has fever. Seeing the blood makes you have to think very quickly! After a quick research, we found Galenia - it was highly recommended by multiple sources, including this Yelp page. Of course, we went there and our son was admitted in the ER. He was seen about 30-40 minutes after we came in, which was acceptable. Luckily there was no new blood coming our of our son's mouth... We were told in advance that we would need to pay around $350 for ER services. It felt like extremely high for Mexico, but we didn't have a choice so we decided to stay and wait. When a nurse was ready to see us, turned out they DON'T have any pediatrician on staff at the moment. Whoops! Well, ok, a "regular" doctor should suffice since it's an emergency for us. Hopefully the doctor will apply common sense to the situation. The nurse has taken vitals from our son... Another 20 minutes and the doctor came. He spent about 5 minutes looking at our son and concluded that the blood in the mouth may be related to an extreme allergic reaction to pineapples that our son was eating when that happened. Nothing life-threatening. Ok - good to hear! There was also fever and the doctor concluded that it'll just go away and nothing needs to be done, outside of giving him fever reducing medications. We got a few medications prescribed. Paying $354 for that felt a little high, but that's alright, we've taken the time from someone else's time in the Emergency Room, so it's understandable. Next thing I did is picking up the prescribed medicine. It wasn't very cheap, but that was ok... Fast-forward to the late evening of the same day; I'm unpacking the medicine and seeing that each of the 3 different medicines that the doctor has prescribed are strongly NOT recommended to be taken for children under 3 years old - it said that straight up on the package. Yikes! Well, we are definitely not giving that to our son. The doctor hasn't mentioned anything about it. Chances are, he just does not know what can and can not be prescribed to children, since he is not a pediatrician... We avoided giving the medication to our son. However, his condition wasn't improving much. Three days later, we arrived back into the US, went straight to our pediatrician. Turns out, our son has (1) thrush, and (2) ear infection. Thrush was bad. Ear infection was REALLY BAD. We had to be taking two different types of antibiotics for the length of 25 days afterwards for it to treat! I wish the doctor would look into the ears, which I know pediatricians normally do when children have fever, and notice that it's REALLY BAD. None of the medications were originally prescribed to treat neither thrush nor ear infection. And of course, our pediatrician confirmed that the medicine that was prescribed would make our son ever more miserable if we gave it to him, since it wasn't made for toddlers. The doctor was just NOT qualified to see our son. What a waste of money and time; it made our lives truly MISERABLE for the following 2-3 weeks. I wish they had a pediatrician on staff to see kids; or were upfront about it so that we had time to go to a ER that would have one. Be on the look out for that, and definitely try to find an urgent care somewhere else first if it's not a life-threatening situation, since this place charges tourists an arm and a leg.

She did say to double check with insurance first. iShe got my number and then sent me a quote via What's APP. The quote was for a hotel visit and it was after hours but even then $1,051.22 dollars?!?!?! That is highway robbery for Mexico. I lived in Mexico for 5 years and am very aware of prices for a house visit. I had plenty for my children, I would have doctor come to my house for consultation. I was super disappointed with how I was never informed of pricing until I got a What's APP message to accept the fee. I want everyone to know to watch out for these places that take total advantage of tourist who do not know. To top it off, I had gotten a quote from a doctor tne hotel recommended the day before and the fee was $1,500 pesos for him to come to hotel for a consultation. The only issue was he wanted cash which I do not carry but after this quote, I am calling him for his honesty. My advise for when you are sick on a International trip is to use hotel recommendations. I found this place on internet and I learned my lesson. Glad I said no thank you to the message!! I am added it the quote that I received for your reference.
