If you try to be involved and communicate, several of the teachers will just stop responding, as if you are inconveniencing them. They expect them to finish "school work" and "assignments" even though they are pre-school and there are no true assignments for that age. (At least there shouldn't be) We had our child in first grade at the beginning of the year and removed him due to many blatant circumstances... one was due to a combined 1st and 2nd grade experience which he wasn't prepared for the combined learning and greatly divided attention based on acumen. They said they treat both separately but we were sent home with homework that was NOT for a first grader. This brings up a greater issue. We believe this school thinks of themselves as a higher/further educational school for bright children. They are not. They give work to children without the teaching/learning they need to actually accomplish the work. Unless you are the culture/lifestyle that also teaches your child at home, your child may be lost or left behind at this school. This has by far been the most "by the book/rules" "school" that I have seen for CHILDREN as young as three years old. Do we really think that three year olds should "finish their homework"? Do three year olds even need homework!? I believe enrolling my son in this school was one of the worst decisions I have made in my raising him to this date. He has been thriving and multitudes happier since attending public school I can't imagine why he hated this school so much.

Our daughter's Kindergarten year was so amazing we enrolled our other child there as well. Their personalities are quite different, but each has been supported in the way they needed and have thrived. The staff seem to love what they do, which shows in the way the carry themselves, their creativity, but most of all, their commitment to the students. When the COVID-19 Pandemic started, it became clear their commitment and standards were WAY above others. The level of detail, leadership, immense planning, investment in equipment, and willingness to consider suggestions from parents has been immeasurable. I honestly don't know how our family could have gotten through the last year without the supports received from school staff AND other families. It takes a village and they've proven themselves worthy. Their before and aftercare staff have become extended family. For us, with no family here locally, this has been the icing on the cake. As difficult as 2020-2021 has been, I'll always have fond memories for their vision, perseverance, creativity, and dedication to their students. Not to mention the diversity, learning opportunities, and amazing music and art staff! They're one of a kind and have had such an impact on so many. I'm proud our children are Holy Redeemer Wildcats and strongly encourage you to consider them. And one last thing. Their principle, Mrs. McPheeters, has been a breath of fresh air. Her inaugural year as principle threw more curveballs than I can count. While I know it's had to be stressful, she's never shown it. Her leadership, what seems to be unshakable faith, and deep roots to the community have made her the perfect fit during these unprecedented times.

Our feelings, mixed at best. We had many hopes and a great introduction to the school via visits both at the school with fellow parent's, and with our child's teacher. We were excited about the coop's nurturing environment, and cohesive community. While we believe our child's teacher was everything we could hope for and more, the parent environment was not okay. Not at all. In the coop, everyone has a role/job. I was nervous but excited about my role within the school it's community. The job, and the school ended up being a place, where I did not feel comfortable. The key role authority the "Co-Chair" never liked my ideas. The energy i put into ideas, and planning, was shot down, by this woman in charge. She seemed to go out of her way to be "helpful" in doing this. We had signed up for a "coop". Instead we got one person making rules, with no regard for others. The new $5 a minute punitive late fee - BAD news, but the way in which this "Co-Chair" put down another admirable member, behind her back to me, that was it. We were sad to leave the good of the school behind. The environment had become for us, the opposite of what was pitched to us. It seemed one bad apple, but then no one, including the other board members or teachers did anything to change the situation. Maybe we had the wrong idea of the school. I would not recommend Southwest Parent-Child Collective.
