The owners have converted this 1900s farmhouse into a beautiful, modern b&b. There are 4 rooms total, each with their own private bathroom. All of the rooms are newly remodeled and just gorgeous. We stayed in the "North Room," which is the first room (all rooms are upstairs on the 2nd level) at the top of the stairs. It has a very comfy queen bed and ample space. My favorite feature is the clawfoot tub, a bath bomb was even included for those wanting a bath. The owners live on the 3rd floor so are always available. Visiting during Covid, we had a very safe stay as well. We got to choose our breakfast time and were served a grand breakfast to ourselves in the dining room. A breakfast-in-bed delivery option as well. Karen made a feast of a breakfast (French toast, eggs, bacon, fruit, and Tinker coffee!). Breakfast is included with the cost of room (which is very affordable!).

In this day of fast flights and cramped travel, it was interesting to step back to a time where travel was slower and more spacious. People travelled up stairs in comfortable seats, their luggage was downstairs. Each seat had an ashtray ... if you even know what that is. The car showed its age. They even commented that the cars don't run in the summer for fear the A/C will go out. As for the staff, they try hard to deliver but more could be done with the story line. The online ticket purchasing can be a little confusing but we always seem to figure it out eventually. Nickel Plate offers a variety of family-friendly and adults only (cocktail themed, etc.) train rides. It makes for a really nostalgic and cozy experience - the train heads north to the Morse Reservoir area with deer sightings along the way. Tip - go to the bathroom at the train station before you head out. The bathroom on the train is quite old and small (aka tough with kiddos). Parking at the train station is a breeze and the park features a train themed playscape to pass the time until your ride is ready to board. Overall, a fun experience.

We are currently making the 11-hour drive back from our recent stay in Marion, Indiana after…read moreattending a graduation service at Indiana Wesleyan University, and we certainly wish we had at least one more night at the Burke Place Inn--which is a big compliment coming from someone who typically insists that she stay in a hotel while traveling. Upon arriving at this conveniently located b&b (just a few minutes drive away from IWU), John and LeRoy immediately welcomed us into their home with warm hospitality, making sure that we had all the essentials and amenities necessary to have a comfortable stay (e.g. Wi-fi password, information about the house, extra blankets, etc.). We were made to feel like royalty by the several high-class amenities offered at the Inn including, specialty chocolates in the room, plush bathrobes, an assortment of magazines to read while in bed, and bubble bath for the jacuzzi tub. The special touches extended into each morning, too. We were treated to delicious breakfasts each morning set with a beautiful tablescape (and yes, as some one who loves to host herself, I noticed and appreciated that the dishes and flatware were different each morning). It is in the dining room that you are most able to appreciate the care and attention that the owners have put into preserving the history and integrity of their century old home. Beyond the tasty meal and beautiful view from the dining room, it was also our hosts' hospitality that put us at ease when we aren't normally used to eating with other guests whom we don't know; John broke the ice by conversing with the guests, telling us stories about the area, and providing entertainment suggestions when asked. We had a wonderful time and if ever in the area, we will certainly stay again; and we exhort you to do the same.

The camp will pretty much accept any child who wants to come despite financial burdens. The program is made possible by donations and volunteers, who act as camp counselors, medics, and educators, invested in the children's safety and growth. There are different programs throughout the year at camp such as Family Weekend, Teen Weekend, and Summer camp. Summer camp is probably the most rigorous because there are more newly diagnosed younger campers learning about their diabetes. The foundation's website is helpful with FAQ's about what to bring and to expect. The meals offered were pretty tasty and they will try their best to accommodate special diets if notified in advanced (e.g. vegetarian, gluten-free). Campgrounds themselves can be rented out to groups in specific months. It's 28-acres big with fields, huge rope climbing apparatus, swimming pool, and basketball court. I went during the fall when the leaves were changing and it was gorgeous! There is air conditioning in the cabins but no heat so prepare well. It was 40-50 degrees during teen camp and I didn't pack enough layers or a heavy enough jacket even though I thought I did! I saw strong friendships between the children and families because they're able to relate to each other that other people without diabetes may not be able to understand. It was eye-opening to learn how much more these kids had to do than the average person in order to just play, eat, and stay well. (It's a lot of math and self-awareness). They're just amazing and great kids that deserve to live a healthy life!

We will never darken there doorways again.
