Finding a makeup artist for our wedding was one of the things we were the most worried about. In the past, my wife and I have experienced makeup artists that were not familiar with doing makeup well on Asian faces. We didn't want that, especially for our wedding. Our prayers were answered when we found May. This review is a bit long because it isn't fair to only describe her as amazing, because she is so much more! First off, May is so incredibly talented as a makeup artist. She has artistic vision and works to emphasize your features versus a "copy & paste" makeup style. Secondly, she is also very organized and professional from communicating before the wedding, to the makeup trial, to the day of the wedding making it easy to discuss and confirm with her. To start off, we are 2 brides, so that is double the makeup! My wife and I typically don't wear a lot of makeup so it was difficult for us to voice what we wanted and know what would look good on us. We decided to include a makeup trial which I HIGHLY recommend all brides do. My wife showed May some photos of the makeup look and up-do hairstyles she liked. May was so talented and gave my wife exactly the look she asked for. However, this is why the makeup trial is important because, my wife ended up realizing that she actually want a more natural look because it would make her feel more comfortable and that she actually would prefer her hair down. May was so understanding and had suggestions on how she can create that as she knew exactly what my wife wanted! With May's expertise, my wife felt so comfortable and beautiful with her hair and makeup on our wedding day. As for me, I shared a few images with May and described to her the feel I wanted to evoke with my hair and makeup. I mainly spoke about the facial features that I wished to emphasize and those I wished to minimize and trusted May to create the final vision. She did just that! May gave me the fresh faced look and styled my hair to matched the vision I had but didn't know how to voice entirely. May also went the extra mile for us to make our wedding perfect. On the day of our wedding, I suddenly asked if she could support us on-site at the wedding ceremony and for photos afterwards. This was because we did a small photo shoot on the day of our makeup trial, at the wedding location, the wind was insane and our hair was in our faces for all the photos. The weather also looked to be about the same on our wedding day, so for our wedding, we didn't want the same thing to happen, and I presented May with this last minute request. When I tell you she is kind and caring, I can't emphasize that enough. She told me that she had something already scheduled but she understood why and that she will try. She shifted her personal schedule around asking for her friend to help to take care of her personal errands, to be able to accompanying us to the wedding ceremony and photoshoot afterwards. I almost felt undeserving because this was essentially a stranger we met that week, but she has such a big and kind heart and was so caring that she was willing to go above and beyond to make us look and feel good on our wedding day. I was very horrified and worried because a pimple came outta nowhere. But she somehow hid it. The majority of my bridesmaids and MOH(Maid-of-Honor) had their makeup done by Mayy! The hairstyles were done by her kind mother. Mayy did my hair and makeup. There was a problem with the back hair volume for the bridesmaids, but that was an easy fix. Just gotta let them know. I got so many compliments about my make up by May! This is my 3rd time having May do my makeup, and I feel lucky to have her be a part of my special events! My experience was overall okay. The artist showed up on time and was communicating well until the wedding date. My makeup seemed a little cakey (she put a lot of foundation). My hair turned out to be beautiful though. Two mothers were not satisfied with their makeup and hair but the artist did not offer to fix it. When we asked she was very reluctant to spend time to fix it so we didn't bother anymore. Wish the artist was a little bit more caring and attentive. I learned quickly that she wouldn't go out of her way to keep the customers happy.. I think it was inconvenient for her. May and Paty did a fantastic job on hair and make-up for me, 2 of my bridesmaids, my mom, and my now-hubby's mom. I first met May in August when my fiancé and I visited Hawaii to do some wedding planning. I went into my hair and make-up trial not really knowing what end result I wanted, but May looked at the photos I showed her, listened to me describe my dress, and then helped combine a few of ideas I had into a look I really loved... and something she thought would look nice with my dress. On the big day in November, May and Paty arrived 15 min early (best news ever to a bride on her wedding day lol) and waited patiently in the lobby for us to get the room ready for them to work their magic. At some point, one of the groomsmen came to exchange my letter to my fiancé with his letter to me. Where can I even begin?? May TOTALLY outdid herself with my hair and make up that I got done for my maternity photos. I e-mailed her with a request for how much her services cost and I sent photos showing the look I was going for. May communicated within the same day with a very reasonable quote and assured me she could create the look I wanted. However, May was able to create an even better version and she went to great lengths to get everything looking perfect. It was like watching an artist create a masterpiece - May would scrutinize every hair out of place and the make up on my face to make sure every shade was to her standard. Not only was she a true artist, but she was also a super friendly person that made me comfortable with her light conversation and AWESOME music playlist. If I could give May 100 stars out of 5, I would. Hair & Makeup was the first thing on the itinerary for the big day. She was scheduled to arrive at my hotel suite at 7:45am, and she arrived at that time precisely. My first impression of her was that she was extremely sweet and caring. She was also clearly a top notch pro, with tons of experience. May scanned the room, found a large table to set all her products and tools, and got to work. She did hair and make-up for my aunt, mother of the bride, mother of the groom, and me - all back to back! Before she began doing her thing, she asked us to show some pictures of the hair and makeup styles we preferred. May then analyzed each picture, understood the general idea of what we wanted, and essentially combined all the pictures we showed her into one. May is simply amazing. She made me feel confident and beautiful. I'm usually self-conscious of the hyperpigmentation and dark blemishes on my face, but those were no longer a problem on my wedding day. She covered them up without making me look cakey. The makeup was not heavy at all. I was airbrushed. I truly felt like a gorgeous bride!! Throughout our session, she calmed me down (I'm usually a nervous wreck) with her stories. She is soft-spoken, but talkative. I learned that May is booked every day with multiple weddings a day during peak wedding season, and now I totally see why. At the end of our session, she gave me a little touch up kit, which included blotting papers (as an oily girl, this helped A LOT), cream lipstick samples, and Q-tips. May was truly amazing. My coordinator actually booked and scheduled everything for me, and I'm so grateful we got May for my wedding. We flew into Honolulu on Friday at noon for a Sunday wedding, and immediately went to May for a trial session. I'm glad we did that because it gave us time to get to know each other and chat. May is so nice and sweet and gave us recommendations for food, and even said that, should we ever visit her home country of Thailand, we could contact her and ask her for more recommendations. We chatted about a ton of things, which was great because, of course on Sunday, I was too nervous and excited to say anything. I can not say enough how lucky I have May for my wedding day. I found her through my wedding planner and it's such a pleasure to work with her. I hired May and her assistant for their hair and make up services for myself and my bridesmaids for my big wedding day a few weeks ago. May is very sweet and professional. I did A LOT of research on different beauty artists while planning my destination wedding in Honolulu and her portfolio and prices impressed me the most. I didn't have a chance to do a trial run but I was confident in her services because of the wonderful pictures I saw on her website. I emailed her what hair styles my bridesmaids and I were interested in. She was very great at responding to my emails and answered all of my questions within a decent time. I contacted her early-on and she was able to book me for my special day with a small deposit. She answered all my questions and even sent me an email to let me know she had received my check deposit. I scheduled my make-up trial on the day I took my engagement photos. Her instructions to her home studio was very clear and I had no problem finding it. She has a nice set-up in her home and I felt very comfortable. I took her several inspiration photos and she got it exactly right!! I have my hair trial scheduled a couple weeks before my wedding.
