When first entering the store looks like a high class beauty or spa located in the Plaza, but this one is in Independence. Rachel is my superior stylist. She's been cutting, coloring my hair, and waxing my eye brows for months. When you choose to have your eyebrows waxed, they take you into a quiet spa room, and do the waxing. I like that. It feels upscale. I've had my hair cut at this location for a long time. My last hair stylist had to quit, but at Beauty Brands, they don't seem to have a large turn over in beauticians. Once you have one you like, she or he tends to stay employed. They also do nails and pedicures. I've not experienced that, but they offer a "$29.00 express-a-cure" which caught my eye the other day when I had my hair cut. The prices for services depends on the stylist. Senior and master stylists cost the most. Not a $9.00 hair cut, nor a $30.00 hair cut. Yes, it's expensive, a bit, but, my hair stays the same for 6-8 weeks. The only other beauty salon that is equal to the hair cut I receive here at Beauty Brands, is Lady Luck Hair Salon, in Westport. The store itself is a godsend for this area. They sell the entire OPI line, and salon and skin care products. They carry Hot Tool's Brand curling Irons, and straighteners. Any brush or comb you need they have it. I personally wear MAC make-up, but the make up at Beauty Brands is kind of cool. I have to stifle myself not to buy it. (No, I don't need that.). They also carry the cool little Tweezerman Tweezers that are black, or zebra striped, or yellow. You've seen them in Allure Magazine. This store and salon is a step up from any of the beauty stores in Independence. If you're looking for a great hair cut or wax, you should try them out. Eyebrow waxing is around $12.00. Haircuts are $37-42.00. Pedicures, $29.00. Prices are displayed, no guessing. Most of the stylists are women, but there are one or maybe 2 men. I've seen an entire wedding party being styled at one time, by 4 different stylists. Best time to get your hair cut, so you don't wait is either early in the day, or on Saturday morning. Make an appointment. If you are a walk-in, you might end up having to wait for another wedding party before you. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I took my daughter to get her hair highlighted. She showed the gentleman that did her hair a picture of what she wanted which was blonde highlights, mind you she already has blonde hair and wanted it a shade lighter. No big deal right?! After 3 and a half hours her hair turned out dark with purple and grey streaks. We left and immediately when we got into the car she started to cry so I called beauty brands and they scheduled her a few days later with a so called Master stylist but let me tell you this lady was so unprofessional, refused to fix her hair and then insulted her by saying her hair looked green as if she went swimming after she got her hair done. My daughter had not gone swimming and the only reason her hair looked green was because of them!!! How rude and unprofessional will never go back again and I advise others to be cautious and pick a different location. read more

I have been going to Nicole Z for 8 years! She always has great ideas. I love her so much that now my Mom and daughter go to her. She is the only one we would ever let touch our hair! I needed a haircut while my regular stylist was out of town on a long-term trip, and in an act of blind faith, went to Beauty Brands for the first time and scheduled an appointment with Wayne. Oh. My. Goodness. He did an amazing job on both the cut and the style, and a couple of my friends liked my hair so much that they wanted to go and see Wayne just to have him style their hair. They have completely messed up my appointments 3 times now with little to no apologies, they just simply turned me away, even though I had an appointment. I have got one of the worst haircuts I have ever received from this location, the blending looked like she took a razor to the back of my head. & Wendy was so unbelievably RUDE!!! read more

I'd been considering getting a Brazilian wax done and after asking around on Facebook, one of the suggestions was Beauty Brands. I did some calling around to other suggested places and no one could get me in on the day that I was able to go, so I went with Beauty Brands because they had an opening. The store was clean and the staff was friendly. I went with one of the senior estheticians to ensure that I was taken care of properly as this was my first wax and I wanted it to be as pleasant of an experience as possible. The room I was taken to was clean, no wax on the walls or floor, the towels appeared clean. The woman doing my wax was friendly and we talked the whole time, so it wasn't awkward. She didn't double dip or have to go over spots too much. Like I said, this was my first wax and it was not at all what I expected. I'd read up on it for a week or so before committing to the idea and everything that I'd read said talc powder is used and helps with the pain a little as because the wax isn't sticking to the skin as much. I'm not sure if it's typical Beauty Brands practice NOT to use talc powder, but when I asked about it, the esthetician said that it's primarily used for leg and arm waxing, not pubic waxing which is the opposite of what I'd read (I also asked a few people who've been waxed elsewhere if talc powder is generally used with Brazilian waxes and they said yes, it is used and helps with the pain). I have a pretty high tolerance for pain but this experience had me sweating, shaking like crazy, bordering on hyperventilation, and almost in tears. I still had a few hairs left, they weren't tweezed or anything but I think the esthetician felt bad and didn't want me to go through anymore pain. Needless to say, I won't be getting a Brazilian ever again. Even thinking about getting waxed again makes me cringe. I don't think Beauty Brands is at fault, though I do think using talc powder would've helped and something they should look into, especially for $56 plus a tip. read more

I can't believe this store gets any 4 or 5 stars. Walked in recently and was not even acknowledged. Ask a sales person where a certain product was and she pointed and said "over there' indicating the whole half of the store. Their shelves were half empty. Did not have what I needed. Swear every time I go in there it will be my last If I hadn't had a take ten coupon I wouldn't have bothered. Will try the store in Lee's Summit to use my coupon then I am done. read more

My 12 year old neice came here for a haircut. She wanted short hair that is easier to manage. Stylist Sarah Jean was horrible, rude, and just dispicable. She told my niece that it wouldn't look good on her and made her feel terrible for having sensitivity related to sensory stuff. This terrible person should not work here. The unthinkable has happened: I got a bad hair cut. Like, terrible. Terrible, like I want to wear a hat every day because I hate it. It is not at all what I wanted, looks nothing like the pictures I brought into the gal; it's nothing but sadness. Unfortunately, the gal I usually have cut my hair wasn't working the day I needed my hair done, so she recommended the girl that does hers. I took the bait. I wish I had just waited. My normal gal said she would fix my hair for me, but I am scared now, haha. I am still leaving Beauty Brands with an overall 4 stars because the facilities and staff and products are still up to par. I just had to take one away for my bad haircut. :( read more

I went here to get acrylics for the first time, they claimed to be experienced but did the worst job I've ever seen. They messed up twice and wanted almost full price to fix them. Also, when we talked to them about getting them fixed the staff was very rude and stuck up. I would highly suggest going to Ruby Nails instead, they did a much better and was half the price. read more

Went for a massage with Tiffany. This was my first massage. The massage itself felt great, however it was suppose to be an hour massage starting at 4:30 and ending at 5:30. I wasn't called back until 4:35. She gave me the run down and left the room so I could undress. Didn't come back in and start the massage until 4:50 and stopped at exactly 5:30. Its probably a blessing that happened, while I was getting dressed I noticed I could barely move and seemed very sore. I was given water while paying and by the time I made it to the parking lot my neck was starting to throb. I continued drinking water and started putting ice on it as soon as I got home because the pain was becoming excruciating and only continued to get worse. I even started swelling about 2 hours later on the sides of my throat. It literally became so bad I was crying and I have a high tolerance for pain. Both my daughter and sister have had massages and both couldn't believe the amount of pain I was in. We tried calling beauty brands to get a recommendation on what was going on. After explaining to the person in the spa area that answered, was placed on hold for a good 10 mins and finally when someone did pick up the answer we got was we're sorry their all in with clients and we can't help you and then was promptly hung up on. Today, which is the day following the massage, I feel like I was hit by a truck, I have multiple bruises mainly on my back, legs and left ankle. My neck is by far the worst area, still swollen after icing on and off all night and a very large knot on the back of my neck that even just a light touch hurts. Worst experience ever, I paid 62.00 to basically have this woman beat me up. Never again! read more

I moved out here somewhat recently and have had some difficulty finding a good hair salon; so randomly I chose beauty brands, mainly because I needed more shampoo and they were having the liter sale. After asking the very nice young lady at the front if there were any walk in appts available she spoke to one of the stylists who just had someone cancel and woohoo, she could take me! Oddly they rank there stylists at beauty brands so my stylist was a 'stylist' as opposed to a 'senior stylist' so it was like 10 dollars cheaper (another woohoo!) so I was a little sceptic about the whole ordeal but then the wonderful miss Angela Grosen comes out and listens to everything that I want and don't want and blah blah, so we decided on highlights and toner and a deep conditioning. Angela was great and nice and explained everything completely. My hair looks absolutely amazing and feels great too! I will definitely be coming back and I highly suggest Angela! read more

Best service hands down!!!! Lauren was very helpful.. knew her products, extremely patient, and professional. Im a rookie when it comes to makeup, however, by the time I left the store I knew exactly what I was getting. Jennifer did my brows..and when I tell you I finally felt like myself again. By far the best service I have had thus far. Great service ladies. The store is clean, the other women working were professional and you could tell the ladies getting service were repeat customers. I was very disappointed with my visit. My mom, sister, and I had appointments to get our nails done for christmas. My sister went back first and her lady was so rude to her that she decided not to get her nails done and no one ever came to get my mom. My lady was very friendly and did a decent job on me. But with the exception of her, everyone we talked to was rude. Will never give beauty brands my business again. read more

I went in to Beauty Brands in October 2010 to get a cut and highlights. Now in Jan. 2011 I am still trying to fix what the hair dresser did to me. She did not give me the cut I asked for and she damaged my hair so badly it is still breaking!! I am used to having long thick hair. I will be dealing with what happened to me at beauty Brands in Independence in one afternoon for years. It will take that long to grow my hair back to what it was before my visit to this horrible salon! read more
