At the recommendation of the funeral director, I contacted Derby Farms on Friday 7/31 to order…read moreflowers for my brother's funeral. I spoke with Lucinda. At my brother's request he wanted a simple wake with minimal flowers but we wanted one for "Brother" and "Uncle". I explained I wanted something simple and more nature/natural than standard arrangements. My request was something I could look at and see same and/or similar flowers (think wildflowers) I would see on a walk. I also wanted it to be large enough without being gaudy and to make it something that would draw your eye to it and away from his simple pine box. Lucinda explained what she could offer and how it would be arranged and we talked about the pros and cons of keeping something like that fresh for the time we needed. I was not disappointed. The two arrangements were naturally colorful with an assortment of different types of flowers and displayed so beautifully. But what caused me to write this review is what happened at the cemetery. Almost immediately after they were put on the gravesite, bees began lilting on it, going from bud to bud. I felt that they were drawn to flowers that were not loaded up with chemicals to make them last longer and were obviously fresh enough that the bees found them tasty! it was a sight and more than a few people commented. I want to thank you for making the send off for my brother a little easier to bear knowing we did the best to make his burial as "green" as we could.

Robert was quick to respond to my quote request, and stopped by to talk about the proposed plan for the garden layout and redoing the pavers at the edge of the garden. The initial day the team was scheduled to do the work had a conflict for us, and they were great about quickly finding a different day. The team started first thing in the morning and were done by the end of the day. Everything looks great! Robert followed up with some tips for care to ensure that the newly transplanted flowers flourish. Just a week in, and we're already getting compliments on the yard from neighbors walking by. I highly recommend the team for someone looking to get a garden refresh!

Fine job! Seven columnar trees, 10-12' tall were planted properly in April, and they look very good…read more(5 arborvitae and 2 cherries.) It was a difficult job, requiring extensive soil tilling and old root grinding beforehand. The preparation was thorough, and the planting process was well executed. Quite impressive. The team was courteous and helpful. Hydrangeas were planted as well, and they have flourished. My only complaint is the quality of the soil used for amendment. It is hard to work with now in adding shrubs and flowers. All in all, the trees look majestic.

We hired Jenny two years ago to do extensive landscaping in Cambridge and to install a back lawn…read morewhich was mostly gravel following house renovations. We were away when she and her "team" did the work, and when we returned, the "new" lawn was seeded and generally everything looked OK. After the sprinkler ran for a few days, we noticed that most of the dirt had washed away and there was just the same gravel below it. There was no more than an inch of loam thrown over the gravel. next we noticed that extensive weeds and grass was sprouting up in all the flower beds, and some of the bushes which she replanted in dark areas started to die. When we looked behind our garage, there was a huge mess of broken bricks, stones and brush piled up. Her work was so bad and incompetent that the whole project had to be started again. We will have to take legal action and it is exhausting.

This is a long overdue review for Jenny's landscaping work. About a year ago, we hired Jenny to fix…read morethe lawn of our new home. It was new construction so the grass was patchy and uneven, with tons of bald spots and weeds. She quoted $2,500, saying she could fix the grass so it was nice and even (albeit not a golf course), her ratings seemed positive on other websites, and we love supporting women, immigrant owned businesses, so we went ahead and hired her. She came twice. Her incompetence bewildered us. Her landscaping consisted of throwing down some grass seeds and planting a few flowers in the front yard. She was supposed to come back and see how the grass was doing, but never did. All the while she was working, she never once took off her personal, messenger bag. She came alone, not with a team of landscapers; for the amount we paid, we expected a few more people. $2,500 essentially thrown away. Horrid experience, stay away.

Ben came to do a consultation and we agreed upon a budget and rough timeline for when they could do…read morethe work. I appreciated Ben's vision, which included a lot of fruit plants and bee friendly plants. There were some aspects of the execution that could have been improved. A breakdown of the budget would have been helpful. I got a sense that it was tight for them but it's objectively a lot of money, and it would help to see where the money was going. Some more instruction/education on how to care for the new plants would have been helpful to support the success of the garden. In the original consultation I thought that would be part of the installation. They offer training as a separate service, and during the installation was told it wouldn't be included as part of the installation. It's completely fair to charge money for services such as education and training, but I thought that some of it would be part of the installation so as to ensure the success of the new landscape. There were some small touches that they didn't do that we did ourselves after the installation to give it a more complete feel, which would have been nice to have been included. For example they didn't line the planting area and a few inches of mulch extended into the sidewalk. We ended up getting plastic garden liner and rocks to make a boundary, both for it to look nice and stay contained within my property and also to prevent runoff. We staked the raspberries because the new fruit were growing white fuzz where they were touching the ground. While there were some misunderstandings about some aspects of the installation, I do like the edible plants and the layout looks nice. I hope as they continue to grow they don't lose sight of the customer service and communication that are raved about in some previous reviews.

They were delays in sourcing evergreens. They put in the ugliest Yews, which were total ineffective as a hedge or for privacy, which was my priority. The made stone walkway below grade. It's is under water and covered in mud every time it rains. He put in Asain pear trees when local pears would have been better. Paw-paw trees which serve no purpose, and they look bad. Most of the planting they did is dead and gone. It was a waste of time and money (+$30k). He seemed nice, but did an awful job, had no professional courtesy, never followed up, never thanked the person that referred me. Don't waste your time.
