I was a friend of Marta Becket's for more than 30 years, and was completely enchanted by her…read moremagical world of the Amargosa Opera House & Hotel. I saw many caretakers over the years, some who done her wrong, and some who wrong was done to by others with so-called 'good intentions'. I visited frequently, typically several times a year, even flying in from the Middle East to visit her. I had seen every show, often many times, and they were positively exquisite. 'On With The Show' was deeply autobiographical, and I would cry every time during the final scene where the lights would go down and she would dance in a white tutu under black lights. The hotel rooms were sparsely appointed but I never minded that. I would stay in the rooms that she had painted, which were truly special. The opera house is a masterpiece as Marta painted them lovingly with renaissance style paintings, giving her an audience when no one would come in the beginning. The opera house is a national treasure. I encourage all to visit for a tour! The people, who I won't name, that ran the opera house when she passed away were mishandling the funds, and she was delivered to the morgue with no money to bury her. I started a GoFundMe for Marta's services, which inspired the folks in charge to scrape funds together to pay for her cremation. When I attended the funeral I was told I was not allowed to share my eulogy, and resorted to reading it to people gathered in front of the cafe after one of the 'caretakers' yelled at me for creating a problem by starting the GoFundMe. Once again, Marta's magical world was in the hands of the wrong kind of people. It is a shame, and as a result, I will never return.

The WiFi was slow. Had to turn the shower on for 15 minutes in order to get hot water. There's a…read moremusty smell to the carpet. The paint is peeling off the walls. The building is about 100 years old, so that's to be expected. But I could care less about that. This hotel has more character and charm than any that I've been to. The decor, paintings on the wall, and homage to Marta Becket make it so unique. Visiting Death Valley was memorable, but staying at the hotel made it extra special. If I wanted a stay with all the amenities, I'd stay at a chain hotel and spend twice the price - but it wouldn't be as lovely or as memorable as this place. Btw, we visited the beginning of March 2024 and the cafe was closed.

What a fun day cleaning books for kids! Our local work group, Southern Nevada CCIM, along with our…read moreoffice, NAI Excel, volunteered this afternoon. Our group (along with several volunteers from 3pm-5pm) cleaned 5,000 books! Spread the Word helps students with the gift of reading by providing much needed books at no cost to the readers and their families. The non-profit is always looking for gently used books, so if you have any to donate, please do. All ages are accepted because they have programs for other family members, too.

Inside there is a bar where a lot of the regulars enjoy one another's company. Super sweet crowd, but many holster firearms which was cool to see.

We had a pretty bad scorpion issue when we first moved into this house. Tried a couple different…read morecompanies before this, and honestly... whatever they were spraying wasn't doing anything. Ever since switching to EcoGen, the difference has been night and day. I still see the occasional scorpion here and there, but the key thing is ..they're already dead. That alone tells me their treatment is actually working. I'm not sure what they're using in their spray, but whatever that active ingredient is... don't change it. Seriously. Because I've seen other companies switch things up and everything goes downhill after that. So far, this has been extremely effective and consistent. If you're dealing with scorpions, this is the first company that actually made a real difference for us. Highly recommend!

Billing department is an absolute mess, since they merged with another company. I am still dealing…read morewith issues that are 100% the company's fault (didn't correctly bill my card on file) and they can't seem to remedy their mistake. Therefore I am still getting harassed by their collection agency. Issue has been going on almost 4 months. Not worth the headache. Find another pest control company. Also, at this point you'd think the company would offer a credit or do something as an apology for the inconvenience (seriously you stuck your collections agency on me when I had a valid payment on file and you messed up). They haven't done a thing. And for the record. I was a client for almost five years and never missed a payment or had any problems with the company. It would have been nice if they called me before turning me over to a collections agency and we could have figured out THEIR mistake.
