Gosh, I didn't know what I was missing. This is a true IYKYK! Once you have visited Horrocks, you will return for life. This is a magnificent, rustic, unique, expansive establishment that offers a cornucopia of items. From floral, to meats, cheeses, wine, speciality items, fruits, snacks, vegetables, hard-to-find items and more. There is so much more! Things that stood out even though I loved everything about this place: -the vast selection of canisters of olive oils -the vast array of different varieties of balsamic vinegars (amazing!) -house made items in every area -house made popcorn with so many flavors, so fresh. -the many, many homemade soups: probably around 20 different kinds and delicious. -a ramen bar, what? -bakery -pizzeria -exotic fruits and vegetables and regulars ones too -the wine bar: sip while you shop. -house-made sausages and cheeses -house-made jams, jellies, local honey -extensive variety of spices, herbs, flour and grains - great service, very helpful. This is a must try and truly a destination. I cannot wait to shop and browse here again!

I was in need of peaches, and I figured I'd give Green Acres, an open-air market, a try. Coming in…read morethe summer, I was happy to see that most of the produce was either local or from the Midwest. There were samples of watermelon and cantaloupe out for trying, and I found myself with an Indiana watermelon in my cart, plus local peaches and tomatoes. My husband called my attention to the pies, donuts, muffins, and fry pies. I could smell that Green Acres bakes/fries some of their sweets, while they sell goods from other businesses. He bought a blueberry donut and Amish fry pie, and of the two, the blueberry donut was the better buy. Green Acres not only frosted it but also added some blueberries on top. Not bad! Though they didn't make it into the cart, Green Acres also carries meat, eggs, flowers, soaps, succulents, adirondack chairs, and decor for your yard. While this won't be in my regular rotation, I'm grateful to know that Green Acres is available. I may pop in during the fall for pumpkins.

Green Acres Farm Market may be worth the stop, if you purchase other items than what I did!…read more Cashier was very nice, friendly, and for a farm market, they have an extensive collection of items! If you are staying in the area, it is possible to purchase several full meals of groceries here. But, nearly everything I purchased was not good. The jams/jellies? Why are they not Michigan made? I bought 2-3, 1 leaked on the car ride back home, the other did not have good texture or flavor at all, which is disappointing, as it is Raspberry Rhubarb. The honey was the worst local honey I've ever purchased anywhere. Maybe because it was my first time trying creamed honey? The apples were overpriced, but I needed them. Taste and quality was decent. We wanted to purchase a small wooden windmill, but the price was ludicrous, I think it was $300! Locally, maybe this is the place to go for plants. Maybe it's the place to go for produce. I know it's not the place to go for anything in a jar. I'd rather drive to Holland for the Farmers Market or to Harvest Health Foods. If I'm in the area again, I'd give the another try, to test a bigger array of their items!

I see the value of diversification in running a successful business. It's about developing a…read morereliable revenue stream. It's like tree trimmers that plow parking lots and driveways in the winter. Appeal to as many customer bases as possible, all in the hope of creating stable income flow. If it's off season for the retail nursery business, your main business, in August, then maybe a landscape architect and professional landscapers can provide a weekly service to home and business owners. And we all know that concrete statuary will draw people in. Who doesn't want a quarter scale concrete giraffe holding court near the children's swing set in one's backyard? And if not that, then maybe locally grown fruit and vegetables and ice cream and Amish fry pies will appeal to the masses. But, and here's the hard part because it requires developing a lot of skill sets, you, as a business owner, need to do all of these side hustles to your main business really, really well. We were visiting friends in Quincy who had lost a couple of trees due to an early August storm, because I had a couple of tree eating chainsaws to lend them, and on the way back home we felt a desire for ice cream. But it was a Sunday and our options were few. But this plant nursery advertised ice cream, so we thought why not. Well, that ended up being a disappointment. We received two of the most amateurishly made chocolate malts we had ever seen. I will admit that they were cold and edible but in no way were they malteds. And, as we waited, we got an eyeful of rotting peaches on a counter for sale, and watched the counter girl drop the lid of a container on the floor, reach down to retrieve it, and put the lid back on the container. All without washing the lid off. Yeah, not coming back here.
