Caveat emptor on Yelp! You're in great hands with Kris and Beale Mechanical, but I can't say the same for all five-star-rated establishments on Yelp. [[[OTHER COMPANY: When our 35-year-old Day & Night heater finally died on the coldest days last fall, the need was urgent and I quickly found a different establishment that came and installed a Goodman heater in a couple of days. The service tech arrived three hours late, complained that our heater, 20 feet away from parking, was a hassle to reach, and was generally rude, and even apparently broke our ladder. ]]] Our new heater was as loud as a jet plane and when I discovered our gas bill had doubled, I decided to do something about it and called Kohler, where Bill, who was too busy, referred us to Kris at Beale. THANK YOU! BEALE: Within an hour of my talk with Kris at Beale, Rich was at our house. Very respectful and pleasant. Without slamming any previous work, Rich fixed several botched things about the Goodman heater (which is apparently not known for quality) installation. The damper was closed and he fixed that. He turned the gas and blower way down and now we have a quiet yet still warming heater. He even fixed a broken fitting in our adjacent water heater. Did the other company break it? He didn't say, but efficiently fixed several parts of a botched installation of an expensive investment. I hate slamming hard-working businesses, so I'll just heap praise on those that do awesome work and really shine. Get references beyond Yelp if you can, avoid Goodman heaters, (think about avoiding Cyclone), and definitely definitely call Kris at Beale! Thanks Kris, Rich, and Beale! read more

Kris and his team are true professionals. They installed a new thermostat for me a few years ago, and everything was super easy and efficient from scheduling, to service, to payment. Kris is super responsive, and a really nice, honest person -- he's even helped me solve some issues on my own, which saved me the cost of a visit. Highly recommend! read more

A huge thank you to Kris at Beale Mechanical! I have a strange heating system (forced air radiant heat) and had multiple HVAC companies say they couldn't help me before Kris was recommended to me. Although Kris was out of town, he offered to FaceTime with me to troubleshoot the issues I was having. He was kind and patient, knowledgeable and helpful. He spelled out my next steps. He refused any monetary compensation. I'm thankful for Kris's time and generosity. I will call him in the future if the need arises. read more

Kris was very knowledgable about various aspects of my furnace system and helped resolve my issue very quickly. As he examined the heating system he showed me what to look for in the process of debugging. Kris also had good communication skills and worked fast. I would recommend him to others for installing and repairing HVAC systems. read more

kris installed a furnace in my condo many years ago. He's friendly, professional, and he helped me a great deal by allowing me to do a installment payments. read more

Kris completed a furnace changeout today for me that I feared no HVAC company would want to do. My 15-year-old Carrier HE furnace was located in the attic with a 24" crawl space. Kris had serviced the Carrier twice in the past. The furnace was installed before sheetrocking the ceiling below, and before the access opening was created. Installing the Carrier was done without regard to removing it in the future. So Kris' crew, Caesar and Rich found it difficult just dismantling the plenums. They were not able to drop the old furnace through the opening so they gutted the furnace, collapsed it and got it out. They got the new Trane 80% AFUE 2-stage furnace through the opening just fine. But bear in mind, 90% of the work was done within the confines of the 24" crawl space, a hot and miserable job. Yet the work was done expertly and with utmost professionalism. I originally agreed for Costco to do the work but canceled the order just in time when I learned that Beale Mechanical could do it for thousands less. Yes, thousands. Thank you Beale. read more

Chris is amazing - generous, knowledgeable and honest. If you have an HVAC need, he is your guy. We FaceTimed to trouble shoot. Cool dude.

Very professional. These guys are prompt, courteous, and followed up with me every step of the way. Came back with the part(s) when they said they would (the very next day.) Also they squeezed me in for an emergency service call. Awesome all around ! read more

I recently purchased a home with a new 95% efficient furnace and all new duct work installed by Beale Mechanical. Kris Beale is thorough, concise and follows through on his promises. He installed an updated thermostat, configured my furnace to run at optimal efficiency and made sure I was aware of my rebate with PGE. He presents himself as a professional and a real person you can talk with which is exactly what I look for in a tradesman. I highly recommend Beale Mechanical. read more

Beale Mechanical is a great company. Kris is very knowlegable and very sociable. During installation of our Air Conditioning unit, we encountered a couple of unexpected problems with our pipes and broken wires. Kris and Kevin stayed till 7:00 at night troubleshooting and fixing the problems. They went above and beyond in making the job right! Then they came back the next day and finished the initial job. It works great. Its a real treat to find such professional craftsmen. These are the guys to hire for your A/C and heating needs. --Lady Spencer read more

This is long overdue. Kris helped us out last year when 5, yes 5 other companies I used over the past 6 years were unable to come up with a solution to our predicament. We had a complicated issue with our air-conditioning unit and he and his team were smart, fast, out of the box thinkers and reasonably priced. It was really nice to find trustworthy and dependable people in a time when I feel like mediocre service has become so commonplace. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

Chris answer the phone promptly, he quickly explained when a service call could happen. Then he ask me to send some pics, then offered to assist via facetime. Within five minutes, we had isolated the issue to the thermostat. During that process, he quickly showed me some very valuable problem isolation techniques. I went to the hardware store and my problem was solved inside an hour, no charge! read more

Kris absolutely saved my day!! I was stuck without heat due to a faulty thermostat, and he wasn't able to come immediately but he was able to step-by-step walk me through how to get the heat back on so that we wouldn't freeze until he could come the next day. He was a pleasure to chat with on the phone, super friendly, and so unbelievably helpful. He will be my go-to for help in the future and would highly recommend him to others. read more

I was referred to Kris at Beale by another heating repair facility due to the age and type of floor heater which suddenly stopped working. Kris set an appointment immediately, arrived early and was able to repair the unit, explaining the issue and providing photographs of the unit. Am aware that in the future we are looking at eventual replacement, but in the interim, Kris was able to save me the unplanned expense of a new unit. Can't say enough about his professionalism and knowledge. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a repair facility. read more

My 25 year old forced air furnace started making a rapid banging noise around the heating unit. After an internet search i decided to call Kris Beale. The trouble was hard to diagnose but after some trial and error the problem part was isolated and replaced. Kris is a fair guy and I would recommend him to anyone. He is also quite personable and it is obvious he is concerned about doing quality work. He double checked everything and made sure I was satisfied. No doubt, will call him again if needed. read more

We needed to have our old furnace serviced and some duct work rerouted, so we called Art Torres at the suggestion of a contractor friend. Art was great! He showed up on time and got things done efficiently and properly, always with a smile and an inexhaustible supply of patience and good humor. Figuring out how the heating system was configured was not an easy thing -- we have an old, cranky house -- but Art got it sorted out and managed to move a bulky old hot air duct out of sight without compromising its heating capacity. His price was fair, and the work was professional and thorough. You cannot do better than Beale Mechanical. read more

Well this review is not of their service because I called 2 times to try to schedule an appointment with them for duct cleaning. Twice I was told I would be called back. The second time the man was very apologetic for not returning my call the first time. The second time was the same and I was told I would get a call from his partner the same day. If not then for absolutely sure I would get a call the next day. All these positive reviews is why I wanted to use their service. Well it's been 6 days and no call back so I guess they don't really need business. Oh well I give up and went with another company who was prompt to set up an appointment. Actually this company had many more positive reviews. I tried, they failed. Wouldn't recommend Beale from my experience. I would have gone out of business if I ran my own business like this. read more

Dear Mr. Beale, I want to thank you for the exceptional service you've given us. The heating system you installed has made a world of difference. If I could give these guys 6 stars, I would. Both Kris and Kevin are great people who know their stuff. Our A/C had been finicky for years and I only wish I had called these guys sooner because they diagnosed/repaired the problem in no time at all. Their prices are reasonable and Kris -- despite being here late on a Friday -- didn't hesitate to take a look at another gas appliance of mine that was having problems. I'd gladly recommend these guys to anyone. read more

Kris Beale replaced the ducts in our Novato home. He did an outstanding job and I am not one to get excited about ducts! We needed the job done quickly because it was winter and we couldn't use the heat until the ducts were replaced. He moved our job to the top of the queue and did this 2 day job in 1 day. His attention to detail was over and above. He is extremely responsive, intelligent and generous. On top of all that is is just a really nice guy. Can't recommend Kris enough. He will take good care of you. read more

First, I was impressed that Kris gave us some things to try when I spoke with him the first time. No charge, just some suggestions. It was obvious that he and Kevin were pretty busy with other jobs but I appreciated that within 3 days, we had our heater working again - especially since it was during a freezing cold spell and we couldn't turn our heat on at all! The only criticism I have is that they make sure to give a call if they're not going to make it or will be later than expected. Other than that, highly recommended. read more

We asked Kris to return with his crew and install a 2nd heater for us. We decided to prioritize this project since working with Kris was so straight forward the first time around. Besides the 2nd heater the project involved lots of new duct work in an old house. The project was completed about 6 months ago and since then we've been enjoying his work with a more even distribution of heat and an isolated system saves on heating bills between visitors. Again a great job! read more

Kris called to confirm appointment time day prior then Art called day of to re-confirm. Art was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. He quickly identified issue with our furnace and repaired. In addition, Art volunteered to take a look at our malfunctioning water heater. He quickly observed potential problem and had water heater up and running (two for two!) only to later realize it was a bigger problem. Still, gotta appreciate the effort. I would highly recommend Beale Mechanical. read more

Our air conditioner went out the day before our hottest day yet this summer and Kris was able to squeeze us into his very busy schedule. When the repair was more complicated than could be done that day he was very responsive to phone calls, always got back in a timely manner and gave us a very fair estimate (and stuck to the price upon completion). When he came back to complete the repair he was very thorough and went through all the aspects of the system to make sure it was all running efficiently. He even wiped off the old finger prints that had been on my attic trap door since we moved in, over four years ago. read more

In case you are looking for an HVAC expert you are going to see a couple of reviews from me today. I assure you I am not a bot, just a frazzled human and an accidental landlord ( thank you pandemic :( ) who knows nothing about HVAC and was desperately looking for someone to help fix the fact that my tenants in our condo in SF were without heat :(. The universe answered my call and sent me Kris! ( Well, actually it was Bill at Kohler Heating who answered my call - check out my review there) Kris is not just an expert in the subject, he is a great listener and extremely helpful. Maybe it was my frazzled voice that gave it away but since he didn't have availability for a visit till next week he offered to talk to my tenants to troubleshoot the problem over the phone to see if he could help resolve it.He spoke to them for 20 minutes and had some ideas on what the problem might be and was going to look for some parts. In the meantime he told them to try something out - 'purge the pumping system'(?)  and see if it fixes the issue. It worked!!! We will see if the fix holds or we will need new parts  but now I know who I will go to for any HVAC needs! Thank you Kris! You rock! read more

I highly recommend Beale Mechanical. They were very responsive and scheduled me in for a small job in between their large jobs. I have used them several times and their prices were very fair. They were courteous, on time and called me to inform me of how far away and when to expect them. read more

Kris answered my call on a Saturday. The winter cold had just hit San Rafael and my wife was at home fighting a "cold" with no heat. The furnace stopped working the night before. Kris told me he could be at my house in 10 minutes. Prepared for the worst and possibly many days to wait before spare parts and/or a new furnace arrived, Kris reached into his stash of canabalized York furnaces and found just the circuit board and wiring he needed to have my furnace up and running within an hour. Now everything is toasty at home again. Great job Kris! read more

RESPONSIVE, HONEST AND PROFESSIONAL!! My furnace stopped working on Friday before a holiday weekend. After calling one listing who told me to call back between business hours, I called Beale Mechanical. Kris Beale answered right away, and told me he was at a job site, but would come by first thing in the morning (the best offer I'd had!). Instead, he called an hour later, on his way home, and offered to stop by and take a look and try to get the furnace running. After trying unsuccessfully, he came back the following morning. After inspection, he presented me with a few options, explained each of them clearly, and told me to call him when I had made a decision. He was there the next day with help, and had a new furnace installed by dark! It was a reassuring experience where I felt no pressure, and trusted the advice I was given. The installation was professional, the advice pressure-free, and the price a great value! read more

I had the good fortune to run across Kris Beale when my very old radiant heat boiler stopped working right when the first cold weather of the season started. I called several heating companies and not only was Kris one of the responsive few, he was incredibly helpful before he even came to my house. He helped diagnose the problem over the phone and proactively did research to find an old part right away. He was professional, personable, a great communicator, and reasonable. I've rarely, if ever, had a service person be so responsive and genuinely committed to fix my problem. He didn't charge a ridiculous amount as I knew others would have done just to look at my boiler. He also didn't tell me that the old boiler was useless and needed to be replaced as others had. He brought the part and made it all work in just one quick visit. Apparently he does work with all sorts of mechanical appliances and it was clear that he is deeply experienced with heating systems, radiant heat, Eichlers, and more. read more

To have found Kris was indeed a heaven sent. My water heater broke which was attached to a hydronic heater and all the plumbers i called in Marin were clueless about repairing it, except Kris. He and his brother( plumber extraoridinare ) kriag, fixed the water heater ASAP. Also made sure that the hydronic water heater was working before they left. FABULOUS!!!!!! I concur with every positive assessment made by the other reviews . Kris acted immediately to remedy the lack of central heat in a two unit 127 yr. old Victorian in San Francisco. The lower unit was not a challenge and completed in short order. However, the 3rd floor flat was the contrary. The furnace had to be installed in the top of a tall, central closet . This entailed all sorts of specialized remedies and equipment. Both the roof and the the adjoining bathroom wall had to be accessed to facilitate the endeavor. In spite of the special needs , Kris and his capable crew finished the task in 5 days. The City inspector commented that it was as good a job as he had seen. Oh, did I mention that he did this on time , on budget and with a very uncooperative tenant . You won't do better than Kris. read more

Yesterday was extraordinarily hot, and I had called over 20 HVAC firms to get someone to check my air conditioning unit (which was not running), although the fan inside the heater garage unit was running. Chris was the last one I called (around 7pm) and he answered. When I told him my issue, he asked me to check if the circuit breaker had tripped. He was going to squeeze me in today to check out my unit. When I went to the circuit breaker box, he was right! The breaker had tripped. When I reset it, the air conditioning unit worked perfectly. Thanks Chris for some simple advice which ended up making my evening at home more comfortable (indoor thermostat went from 81 to 73 degrees overnight. i'll be calling you next time when something more complex happens with my HVAC equipment. This Spring I figured out that my AC was not working. Wanting to find a solution myself, I consulted YouTube and other sources of wisdom. I actually learned a lot. I knew the problem was with the condensor. I was able to loosen some bolts and check that the fan motor had not seized and was moving. I suspected the capacitor. So I ordered the part and thought I put in it right, but no joy. So I needed a pro and wanted to get a sense of what I was looking at given what I learned. I called the most Yelped HVAC contractor in Novato and was told by the phone answerer that the service call was $150. This lady could not answer any of my questions. So I called Beale. And Kris answered. I briefly explained the situation and he outlined the options, but said he could not know until he tested the unit. I was anxious to get it looked at. Two days later, he came by and looked at the unit. He explained that the unit was not getting electricity as a fuse had blown. It may have just blown or the condensor motor may have shorted causing it to blow. All we could do was replace the fuse and see what happened. At this point, Kris had been so upfront and professional that I would have been completely comfortable replacing the unit. He had earned my trust. He did not have a fuse on hand, so he came back the next day. Viola! The condensor started up just fine. Kris is a true professional and a very nice guy. read more

No show, no call. Beale Mechanical may do superb work, but if he doesn't show up for an appointment or at least call to explain why he can't, he gets zero stars (not an option here) in my book. read more

My perspective isn't typical because I have been working in the construction trades, mainly residential remodeling for 40 plus years. I first met Kris when I was looking for a used roof top unit for a cash strapped client of mine who was looking to air condition his building on the cheap. Kris was selling a used unit on Craigslist. Since that time I have often turned to him for HVAC work on jobs I was working as well as for my own home. Yes,he is competent, knowledgeable, trustworthy, etc., but the reason I choose to recommend him and use his services has to do with his willingness to tailor his services to specifically meet my needs and the needs of my clients. He is willing to work around budget constraints, difficult circumstances, and the various idiosyncrasies of both my clientele and myself. On one occasion when he was otherwise quite busy, he took the time to come to a job I was on, figure out the best way to install the system, and prepare a detailed proposal. As it turned out, my client only wanted the proposal written out so that he could shop the estimate around to get a better price. When I told Kris about it he took it in stride as just a part of doing business. read more
