However, when I had a previous tear some years ago, the other practice scheduled at most one follow up visit. This doctor asked me to come in 3-4 times following the tear to follow up. This seemed excessive. It turns out this practice is owned by a private equity group, which I suspect has pressured the doctors into scheduling more appointments than are really needed by patients. Then a few weeks ago I get a bill from a collections agency. I checked my records and I had not only already paid these bills, but paid them twice in error because the Retina Group did not credit my previous payment. I have called the billing department to get a refund, but have not been able to reach a person after repeated attemps.

Heading to the 9th floor, we headed into the Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons. The place is pretty spacious for the waiting room. Speaking of waiting room, there is a place in the back where you can aquire some "Cool, clear water" to drink. There may even be books to read while waiting for your party. Not a bad place to leave some unwanted books too. Second thing I noticed is the 2026 sign for the NEW ZAdministration Fee STARTING at $50.00. Apparently this was started just this year by the Doctors of Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons. What will new year of 2027 bring? My dad told me his insurance for this place use to be taken, but not anymore. Now my dad has to file his own insurance. Blue Cross Blue Shield is one type of insurance one has to file to their own health insurance. Why? Because when Washington Eye Physicians and Surgeons file the insurance claim, it is rejected. This will depend on one's health coverage...feel free to get more information on this with the front desk agent(s). This place seems pretty expensive, but if they get the job done, then the cost is worth it. From what I saw my father's is happy with the outcome. The place's ambience was peaceful and moving like a well oiled machine. I would like to say the staff was helpful and polite. There was a mistake done and the process to correct the problem was handled swiftly. I will continue with a followup if the problem wasn't finalized within two week time spand of today. All in all, today's experience was a good one.

She had to wait over an hour for her appointment, and when the doctor finally arrived, she was dismissive, cold and poorly communicated post-care instructions. Bedside manners are important when you are treating elderly patients (or any patient, for that manner), and I'm afraid Dr. Tom doesn't have them.

Dr. Johnson gave my husband shots of Avastin in his eyes for macular degeneration. Immediately (same day) after the shots my husband became unable to see, and now months later he remains nearly blind. We were seen relatively promptly. However, we were over-billed. Billing department was difficult to work with to receive our refund, though I did eventually receive it.

After I saw an oculoplastic surgeon who performed several unsuccessful surgeries to treat my lagophthalmos, I decided to find someone who would approach my condition with a different strategy. I extensively researched oculoplastic surgeons practicing in the Maryland, DC, and Virginia area. My research led me to Dr. Zatezalo. From my first consultation with Dr. Zatezalo, I knew he was the surgeon for me. He is kind, smart, and compassionate along with experienced, talented, and creative in surgical procedures. He clearly explained to me that I needed full thickness skin grafts (FTSG) to functionally improve the operation of my eyelids. I had read about eyelid skin grafts from various Internet websites that described it as a last resort because of its complexity and routinely poor cosmetic outcome. Recovery may take up to a year or more before the grafts blend into the rest of your face and even then, they are usually a different texture and slightly off color. Dr. Z exerted no pressure on me to have the procedure. Deep down inside I knew I needed it. I had to do something as I could not go on living the way I was, and yet, I was afraid of what I would look like after a FTSG on my lower eyelids. I was using eyedrops nonstop during the day, and at night I would awaken every few hours in pain from the dryness and had to instill dry eye ointment. I wore sunglasses indoors because my eyes barely tolerated room lights or being out in the sunlight. I was miserable and my quality of life had gotten so poor, I did not want to leave my home. Dr. Zatezalo was very patient with me and again very honest. I had read many of his patient reviews of how he gave back his patients' lives through corrective surgery. I decided to move forward with full thickness skin grafts as Dr. Zatezalo recommended. In my case, it took approximately six months before the grafts started to blend in well with the surrounding skin and not be noticeable. My level of comfort improved immediately after the surgery as I now had more skin in my lower eyelids to help my eyes close completely. I no longer needed to use eyedrops and ointment like before. I was also able to tolerate artificial and natural light without sunglasses. I had the FTSG surgery in 2018. Today, people don't know I had it unless I point it out to them. The Zatezalo Group is located in a beautiful and modern office with easy parking access. Amelia and Kimmy, Dr. Zatezalo's staff, are super friendly, efficient, and helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Zatezalo to anyone who needs functional repair or desires cosmetic enhancement of their eyes. Thanks to him, the quality of my life has improved greatly.
