A threesome of employees (as confirmed by a pro shop employee who came out to address the…read moresituation) had the tee time immediately before 5:00 p.m. on Friday 6/12/26 and spent the round filming every shot. They repeatedly set up tripods and staked a phone-mount pole directly into the greens while recording, creating unnecessary delays throughout the course. They also drove their carts up to or onto the grass of almost every tee box. When a pro shop employee came out, no corrective action was taken. Instead, our group and the groups behind us were told, "They're employees here, so they're alright and know what they're doing." I have worked with multiple golf courses and remain active in the golf industry. At every facility where I have been, employees who are given the privilege of playing the course are held to a higher standard than guests, not a lower one. They are expected to respect course, maintain pace of play, and set a positive example for customers. It was disappointing to see employees apparently given special treatment while engaging in conduct that would not be tolerated from paying guests and that negatively affected multiple groups on the course.

Little gem of a course at Balboa Park. This is the oldest muni course in San Diego at nearly 100…read moreyears old and the clubhouse is a San Diego City Historic Landmark. The moment you step into the clubhouse you realize the vast history of the location. For example, some parts are in need of major repair, but there are also nearly 100 years of player trophies and accomplishments on display in a large lobby time has not touched (nor cleaners, painters, renovators...but I digress). Don't miss the unbeatable hilltop views out the back of hole 1 and hole 18 side-by-side with the cityscape in the background. The same view can be seen from the restrooms, giving this place the best view from the loo award. I played the regulation 18 (they also have a nine hole executive course). The course was in good to very good condition. It's a fun, unique track and there are some very narrow holes, but fair enough because they are shorter. Accuracy off the tee is favored over length on most of the holes. There are also a few challenging elevation changes, but not many blind approach shots, which I don't think anyone enjoys. It's a fun track that keeps you on your toes. Many holes are lined by canyons so errant shots on those will be lost. Another unique aspect is that Balboa Park sits under the landing path of the airport. I tried to catch an airplane in my photos and it was pretty easy to in most all of them. Pace of play was fine at 4.5 hours on a weekday afternoon. Staff was friendly, but they deal with a lot of people so I could see how things could go sideways as some reviews have mentioned. Just exercise the golden rule. If you play golf and live in San Diego, I say this is a must play at least once. I'll be back again when I'm in the right mood.

I've always tolerated the usual annoyances, but today's experience was disappointing. I attempted to play the 9-hole course with my girlfriend, who is new to golf. She was mostly coming to walk along with my friend and me, but wanted to hit a few tee and approach shots for practice. We were more than willing to pay for an extra round for her to be more comfortable on a course. The pro shop said this was fine, yet the starter/manager turned us away solely because she didn't have a full set of clubs, stating it is policy. This decision felt arbitrary and is inconsistent with my experiences here. I've repeatedly seen regulars on the 9-hole course play with few clubs, no bags, and dressed poorly without issue, yet she was singled out and denied. She was dressed appropriately, had the clubs she's comfortable with, and the interaction was unnecessarily hostile. While the course is kept in decent shape, the pace of play is always extremely slow, the range is in poor condition, and staff can be hit or miss. Experiences like this make it hard to recommend, especially given all the other issues. To the starter who turned us away: this kind of behavior doesn't grow the game or help the course. She was extremely excited to be included for a round and took the afternoon off of work to make it, which you ruined for some small power trip. This is a budget municipal facility, and if policies are going to be enforced, they should at least be enforced consistently. I've been around golf courses since before I could walk and have played courses around the country, and this was easily the least hospitable interaction I've had with course staff. Do better.

The signature hole is the 5th because it overlooks downtown SD. There is a tree over hanging the hole so it may get in your way unfortunately, same with the next hole which is a long par 3. I would highly suggest a morning tee time, the weather, and the marine layer gives the full effect of San Diego. The pro shop had many options from shirts, hats, and head covers. You pay for your greens fees at one counter and have to walk to another to pay for your cart. It doesn't make any sense but nothing too heartbreaking about it. The range is surprisingly very small for having 2 courses and only so many turf matts. The course is at its purest form for having so many rounds played on it as a public course. Every green breaks towards the water, and it's fast. (Which is great). The course provides scenic views for miles. Playing next to the ocean, hearing the waves crash into the cliffs, and watching paragliders fly through the air is a few of the things that makes this course special. Very friendly staff, and highly suggest the transfusions. It's a bucket list course for any golf junky.

The course is in phenomenal condition, with beautifully maintained fairways, immaculate greens, and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean throughout the round. Watching the hang gliders soar overhead while you're playing makes the experience even more memorable. The South Course is definitely challenging, but that's part of what makes it so much fun. You can tell you're playing on a course that's hosted major championships, yet it's still a public course that anyone can experience. Every hole feels unique, and you'll find yourself stopping more than once just to take in the scenery. After the round, we ate at The Grill at Torrey Pines overlooking the course. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and relaxing on the patio with those incredible golf course views was the perfect way to end the day. The Grill at Torrey Pines is absolutely worth checking out if you're playing a round. (Wish I took more photos) Whether you're a serious golfer or just love visiting iconic courses, Torrey Pines is an unforgettable experience. Been taking lessons with him for about 8 months now. He has been patient, positive, and keeps me moving forward in my game. In a situation where sometimes a coach needs to physically adjust your stance or body position, I would also feel safe recommending Jason to any of my lady friends. A cool thing about Coach Jason is that he is also great with kids- he has been coaching my 8 year old who is not interested in sports at all. Jason shows a LOT of patience and keeps it for fun for my boy. It's been a wonderful experience.

My son enjoyed the tournament play and his time with Future Champions Golf helped him with life skills that has contributed to his success today. He still plays in tournaments but they are charity tournaments in which he supports causes and has a good time. Still manages to drive the ball over 300 yards and score in the 70's with limited play. We were lucky to have him participate in this program in the early days. We still follow Chris on social media and are impressed on how this program has developed into one of the premier youth golf programs in the nation. FCG has lessons, 3-day camps, instructors located at the Stadium Golf Center. I put my 6 year old son in the full day 3-day golf camp. The days were long and hot (bring sunscreen, apply sunscreen, wear cool clothes and a nice ball cap). Your child will be in the son most of the day. They provide water and a pizza lunch when you join the camps. You get a full days worth on the driving range, chipping and putting as well. The camps have about 10-12 kids (boys and girls). My son instructor was Taft Spain. He was cool. Very patient with the kids as well. Good times. Hope my son sticks with golf...! :)
