I would caution anyone considering doing business with Beachscapes to look else where. I'm not one to write negative reviews but every time I look at my yard, the crooked plants, the mulch that has already washed away and more. I want to save others the headache, the disrespect from the owner Brandon and the heartache of being ripped off the way we were. To begin, Brandon was recommended to us by our pool company. We met with Brandon once and shared our ideas. His quote was THOUSANDS above other companies but he assured us that we wanted his expertise. We were doing a FULL yard makeover. Every inch of our yard was to be ripped out, graded properly and then redesigned. The reality was that there was no design "process". I told him my thoughts and he said ok. When I asked for a sketch or any other input, he told me that he can do what I want but he doesn't provide images.
Throughout the pool build, our hardscape design changed drastically which meant we needed less river rock, less grass and less design. We went back and forth with Brandon over text trying to get an updated "design" and estimate. His continuous response was that we would revisit the design and quote once the hardscape was fully complete since it was still under construction. We told Brandon on multiple occasions that we did not want any work to begin until we went through the plans with him again due to the extent of pavers we decided to use and our desire to refine the budget.
Brandon texted multiple times asking if the pavers were done and I always replied with "we need to go over the plans again because so much has changed". The pavers were to be finished on Friday and I let Brandon know. While outside on Friday I see some stranger walking my yard taking pictures. I introduce myself as the homeowner and just says ok. When questioned he finally let me know that he was with beachscapes and he was taking pictures for his boss. thinking this was odd, I texted Brandon and reminded him again that we needed to walk the property together. He assures me that we will walk around on Monday morning. I'm home all morning Monday. At around 10:30/11am, I hear what sounds to be machinery in my front yard. I walk out my door to find Brandon Tilling up my entire front yard. When I reminded him that we needed to go over the project and that I wasn't sure sodding the front yard was in the budget anymore his response was "whoopsies". At this point, I now had to sod the front yard. Brandon worked about 3-4 hours everyday with one other worker. I left my garage open and kept my refrigerator stocked with water, sparkling water and Gatorade for which him and his crew of 1 took FULL advantage.
Prior to laying sad, I asked Brandon if he was gonna put down some nutrient rich soil to ensure that the sod was laid on the proper soil. He assured me that when he tilled up the yard that my soil was in great condition and it wasn't necessary to add anymore, although he did quote me in price for it. We had Brandon set our irrigation to his recommended settings. We also had new irrigation put in before the side was laid, which was all flagged out. After a few days, our sod was dying, and we began to walk around and realize that the sod had been laid on top of our irrigation sprinklers. We had the irrigation company out 4 days later and the owner of the company found another 4 sprinkler heads that were covered including the white marker flag. When we asked Brandon he said that he checked himself and essentially said we were lying.
Within 1 week, parts of our grass were completely dead. We called ALM to come out and they said that we had a fungus and that the soil that the side was laid on was not in great condition. They believe that he laid the sod on clay because the water was just running off the "soil" and down the grade of our yard. He also did a soil test to confirm. Brandon assured us that we needed to water for 30 minutes twice a day and he set the irrigation himself. This gave our brand new sod a fungus. After not hearing from Brandon we reached out to which he texted and said "you should have listened to me in the first place but instead your wife demanded we plant fescue". Completely unprofessional.
Now to the "flower beds". The previous owner had laid volcano rock in all of the flower beds, which we asked Brandon to remove. One day on my way out I noticed Brandon just spreading the rock throughout the flower beds and asked him to remove it all instead of just spreading it around. He replied "what does it matter I'm going to put mulch over it anyway". I told him that I wanted it removed as much as possible. Within days of completion, it was clear that he did not remove the rock and that he only laid about a half inch of mulch over top of it.
