BEACHES THERAPY FEEDBACK I honestly believe that Beaches Therapy in Jacksonville played a key role in saving our child. As a parent, there were many 'dark' moments when our child's future was in doubt, yet Audrey and Ashley at Beaches helped us stay the course to recovery, and were instrumental in a successful outcome. A critical component in our daughter's recovery was the correct diagnosis. Our daughter was twice (incorrectly) diagnosed with depression by other medical personnel, when in fact, she suffered from ADHD. Beaches recognized our daughter's condition within one month, and initiated a path forward to address ADHD from a psychological perspective, as well as a physical perspective. She was prescribed medicine which helped her immensely Prior to this ADHD diagnosis, our teenage daughter was very confused, caught in between two very dysfunctional parents, and facing the stress and strains of adolescence. Her condition was deteriorating and her prior therapist (widely acclaimed PhD in Jacksonville) was unable to reach her after three years of therapy. We were getting nowhere, and our daughter's condition continued to decline. As a father, I was very worried and could not sleep. Our daughter's actions became more and more concerning; ideations of suicide, self-harming behavior, use of drugs and alcohol, lack of any cohesive set of values or direction. Her grades suffered; she was performing below grade level and had Cs and Ds in her academics. It was at this point, rock bottom, that we agreed to try BEACHES therapy at the suggestion of another parent. Beaches Therapy, by using CBT and other methods, was able to help us understand our daughter's struggles. Beaches also worked closely with our daughter to gain her trust, which is essential for successful therapy. Next, the systematic application of CBT quickly began to show tangible results. This, coupled with a correct diagnosis of our daughter's condition (ADHD, which NO medical professional had correctly diagnosed), resulted in marked improvement in our daughter's demeanor and performance. Five months after hitting rock bottom, our daughter is 'clean' (we test for drugs/alcohol weekly), she is happier, and more focused (ADHD treatment). She talks of college and playing sports; her attitude is positive and happy. Her grades improved from Cs and Ds to all A in a few months, and she won several awards at her middle school graduation. Positive results yield more positive results, and we are very optimistic. Ashley and Audrey were always available and compassionate. A key part of our daughter's turnaround was bi-weekly sessions with Audrey/Ashley and the parents. Beaches does not candy-coat things; they will tell you directly what you need to do as parents to help your child. If you listen objectively, then the odds of success are very favorable. Also, Beaches believes in the CBT process. For example, our daughter had convinced both parents that she did not need to attend 'group' sessions, and both parents agreed that it was not needed. However, Audrey correctly pointed out that group is part of the entire treatment regime, and essential for a successful outcome. So we reluctantly agreed. Four months later, our daughter is a new person. Beaches Therapy has my highest recommendation. If you are at a loss in terms of where to turn next; if you have hit 'rock bottom' because of your own situation or that of your child, give Beaches a chance. I've been seeing Audrey at Beaches Therapy for over a year now. I've tried a couple different therapists but didn't "click" with any until I met Audrey. She's wonderful! Non-judgmental, very insightful, sensitive to my needs and background, and inspiring. She's passionate about what she does and truly cares about her clients. I know that if I'm having a crisis, she'll be there for me. I've learned a lot from her in the last year, and I've made so much progress in my CBT and DBT skills!
