I saw them for a year and half and did their DBT group. It went well and I would recommend them

I just couldn't ignore how amazing my experience has been and…read moreI feel like everyone who's ever struggled with mental health issues should know about this option, so here goes. I work in public safety. I don't carry a gun or badge, but I work closely with men and women who do. I have to think and act quickly to ensure everyone gets home safely. Even though it's 2019 people doing this job still don't feel like asking for outside help is an option. Not long ago I heard about telepsychiatry and really hoped I'd found an answer for the depression/anxiety I'd been pushing through with brute force for years. From the first appointment she was empathetic and thorough. She took the time to understand the big picture (my med history, family history, work history, what I thought I wanted out of all this). She was non-judgmental and rational. She understood that I was already on meds for migraines and insomnia (thanks night shift!) and that I had to be really careful about taking anything that would slow my reflexes/response time. She was professional and meticulous - answering all my questions in extreme detail. I've never had an experience with anything psychiatry-related where compassion was involved. She definitely has it. What a welcome relief. I highly recommend Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Amy McLaughlin at Sunpath Wellness. Please - if you are on the fence about asking for help, telepsychiatry makes everything about the process so much easier. And if you're anything like me, what could be better than getting the support you need from the comfort and privacy of your own home?

UPDATE- it's only been a few visits but I am astounded by the treatment. I am going to share part…read moreof one of my most traumatizing moments- I was 12, something very bad happened to me and I ran away from home and called a runaway hotline for help. I told them that there was abuse in my household, drugs, alcohol- it was a bad situation. I held onto what had happened to me, afraid to say it out loud. I asked to speak to my Aunt. They told me she wanted to pick me up, to speak in person, so I gave the address of where I was. They lied to me- the man that raised me was waiting outside, my abuser. I remember opening the door and having fear grip me. I got into the car and he hit me several times and then held a gun to my head and threatened to kill everyone I loved if I ever spoke of what happened to me. ***Now- this treatment literally helped me disconnect the gripping fear that this memory invoked. Let me say that again- I went from crying while telling this story to feeling like the image of him standing against the car was just an old picture, in a matter of minutes. Completely disconnected. Even now, typing this would probably have me in tears- in fear and I am fine. I know several people who have been in therapy most of their life- that's insane to me. Obviously treatment isn't working if you have to keep going for decades. I've done therapy before and it was nothing like this. This treatment has been around for 30 years It has the scientific backing and it is widely unknown! EMDR- do research if you have severe traumas that affect your life. I'll update again at the end of treatment.
