Two girls jump in a convertible and head for the ocean, scarves tied around their heads and nothing on the agenda except a day of cruising around and speaking about the coming year with optimism. They roll in to Queenscliff and one of them (played by me) says "we should get fish and chips and sit on the grass!" They find Trident, a shop with an abundance of fresh fish and the smell of fried goodness in the air. They order and walk out 10 minutes later with a white paper parcel. They find a spot on the grass, give the seagulls the evil eye and then unwrap the parcel... Inside: the most awesome old school chips, $2 worth, that they drown in tomato sauce and eat happily. Two pieces of grilled King George Whiting, tasty but a little overcooked and dry... and then the dismal Greek Salad that at $6 seems exorbitant for what is a small handfull of lettuce, a couple of chucks of fetta, 5 olives and two small pieces of cucumber. Not a tomato in sight,and a distinct lack of generosity. Not to let a dry piece of fish or a stingy salad let them down on this auspicious day, the girls fling the last of the chips to the seagulls, throw the wrapping paper in the bin and then head off to explore the streets of Queenscliff.

We had a wonderful lunch in this quirky little eatery on Sorrento's main street. The fish was…read morecoated in a light, crisp, but not oily batter and really melted in your mouth, the salad was fresh and delicious and we loved our sweet potato chips. Even though it was really busy (first Monday of school holidays) our food came out in minutes. This was one of the best fish and chips we've had in Australia.
