Assuming their website was the most up to date (I worked in a restaurant and google was never the most reliable), I came on a Monday and they were not open. They have a sign out front that reads "7 am - 4pm, 7 Days"... I came the next day at 8 am and they were just opening. Still eager to try the smashed avo toast and some of the delicious drinks I saw online, I was disappointed to learn neither were even on the menu. The menu was quite small and food wasn't available until 9 am. The only saving grace was the friendly waitstaff--I don't blame them for poor management. Overall such a bummer!

I ordered the Bio Fuel burger. Grass-fed beef, free range egg, raw grated beets... that's quality you can taste (Hmm, did I just steal that line from In N Out? =P). I added cheese cuz it's better that way. I thoroughly enjoyed this burger. The grated beets added a refreshing element to the burger. The only down side was that after cheese, this was $13.50 NZD. That's almost $10 USD so basically I'm paying for a restaurant burger at restaurant prices. Fries were normal and nothing to write home about. What's interesting was that the store gives you a burger holder that you can use to hold your burger. I like it. Although it can't hold the juices coming the burger, at least most of my burger was intact while I ate it. Would I come again? Sure, since it's mighty tasty. I just wouldn't come often since it ain't cheap.

However, they weren't particularly friendly, and seemed curt at times. But the restaurant is very spacious and great for groups. Banchan in comparison to what I am used to is sorely lacking. The dishes we ordered were not bad, but I have had better versions in other Korean restaurants, even all the way in Lake Tekapo. Another thing I found a bit surprising was this restaurant serving both Japanese and Korean cuisine when the two are quite distinctively different. We did not try any Japanese food though so this review is based solely on the Korean dishes we had.

First off, it seems like a happening place because it's open 24 hours and they allow you to BYO drinks so everyone was walking in with bottles of beer and wine! I noticed that all the wait staff was Korean so perhaps my expectations were a bit high. We ordered the lamb BBQ (since this is something I've never had at a Korean restaurant), the soon tofu soup, and the beef wraps. The lamb BBQ was the best thing we had, it had pretty good flavor. Unfortunately, the soon tofu soup was a disappointment, it was spicy but watery at the same time. Beef wraps were essentially bulgogi wrapped in rice paper. The banchan (side dishes) were a bit lackluster. I was glad to try a Korean restaurant in New Zealand, but unfortunately, my mum's Korean cooking is better. :)

It's just down the street from my place but just never got around to going until last weekend. They do a big carryout business, only 2 tables inside the place. They have a simple menu.. That's NZD for my International friends. The lamb was delicious. It had a Spanish flare to it which I loved. The guy speaking had the best accent. Reminded me of Inigo Montoya from the movie Princess Bride. Super friendly staff too. There's only 2 guys so the odds of them being friendly are pretty high.. Only reason it gets a 4 star is because the lack of lamb was just a little low for me. It does come with a bed of potatoes(po tayyyy toes) for all you savages that say puh tay toes. Having moved here from New York, I was quite delighted to check this place out! The restaurant is clean and modern and has great eye-appeal. You can create your own bagel sandwiches (for $7.50) or select one of their options (~$9/10). I tried the Pilgram with chicken, bacon, mayo and tomato salsa on a rock salt bagel. I HIGHLY recommend the combo. While the sandwich lacks the amount of fillings a New York bagel would have, it is still satisfying. My husband had the Big Schnitz and he enjoyed it, too. Haven't tried the pizza, but if it's anything like the bagels, you're taste buds are in for a treat. Don't want a sandwich? You can also buy their bagels as bagel chips!

This is a new fitout so everything is clean and fresh. The bagels are amazing. My favs are the pilgrim and the salmon. The bagels come in a variety of flavours and are freshly made with no preservatives. The fillings of the gourmet bagels are humungous and delicious. I really want to try the pizza sometime as well - the Jumbo size truly is jumbo!! Service is pretty good. They took a while to take our order as they were busy cooking out the back. They also forgot our hot chocolates but remembered just as we were finishing up and bought them to us as takeaways instead with a lot of apologies and a free bag of bagel crisps (YUM!) so all was forgiven. The hot chocolate was really good actually, generous with the marshmallows and not flavourless like I find so many are. I recommend checking out Wholly Bagels for lunch, especially for Uni students as its very close to campus. They are also open till 8ish in the evening, and you can do an online order to speed things up in store.
