We were in PEI for a family vacation in September and we made a special trip into Charlottetown to enjoy the sights but also to come to the Root Cellar for some essentials that we needed back at our cottage. Among the things that I came in looking for was activated charcoal and admittedly I was a bit disappointed that the store did not carry it. It was explained to me by the sales assistant that the local supplier does not have this particular item in their inventory but they were working on locating it elsewhere. Despite not being able to get activated charcoal, I was truly impressed with the selection of products. The Root Cellar must have the best selection of Weleda products outside of Switzerland! And a huge assortment of all-natural toothpaste and personal hygiene products and lotions specifically designed for babies. Also, in the back of the store there is an impressively large selection of non-perishable grocery items. I walked out of the store with a bunch of things and wishing that there was a Root Cellar in Montreal.

I went to sunflower to buy flour to make a starter for sourdough bread. They have a few varieties…read morethat you can't find easily, such as stoneground whole wheat. The advantage of getting flour here is that you know the flour is just flour. If you read the ingredient label on a package, there are all kinds of things like ascorbic acid and other stuff they put put in for various reasons. It's good to know that the stoneground flour is just that with nothing else in it. Sunflower also has other specialty items like Dutch processed cocoa, potato starch, and hemp seeds, in case you want that kind of stuff. I will be going there regularly to get flour to feed my starter from now on.

Bulk barn is a bulk food store that sells things like a variety of grains , flours , powdered…read moresauces ,cous cous, noodles, powdered drinks, nuts, dried fruits , a huge variety of candy , and snacks , cold pie fillings , granola etc. They even carry organic and sprouted items at decent prices. I would love to see them continue to expand their organic line. They carry Nature's path products , dog and small animal food plus soap and they even rent out baking pans . They have a huge variety of them. I have visited 3 Bulk Barns Charlottetown, Moncton and Summerside and truth be told if it was not for bulk barn I would have starved the first month I was in this area. While I may eat junk food when I am out at home I cook healthy organic vegan / veggie stuff which for some reason has not really caught on here in Eastern Canada. Anyway that being said this Bulk Barn is larger then the one in Summerside and about the same size as the one in Moncton, hence they carry more items then the Summerside one. Also just a warning their prices are excellent on some things and highway robbery on others PLUS not everything here is healthy , its just as bad filled with preservatives and chemicals and fattening so READ the little red & white recipe/ ingredient cards they have on each barrel.

Hope they have the decency to apologize (yeah, right /s). If you are immune compromised do what's right for you, or stay home, don't expect the whole world to cater to you.

I fell asleep during the pedicure. Great comfy chair, tilted back and I was given a blanket; boom! I fell asleep! Ha! And Brooke did my braid for me before we went out to dinner. Love Brooke! She did my hair last year as well. Now while mom was getting a service done I paid for 5 massages + tip money. I asked them to call mom in June for a massage then surprise her that it's all paid for. End of June rolled around and mom hasn't told me she's had a massage. I called and left a VM. Someone called me back and stated they didn't have mom's info?! What?! How is that possible when we filled out the client info sheets?! Let alone that I could have sworn that was given when I purchased the massages. Fine, here's her info. I was disappointed about that. Mom has been enjoying the massages and still loves Martha! I called in last week to book mom a spa day for her birthday which is tomorrow. When the lady asked for mom's name, I said Mary C. Oh she's the cutest thing! She's so lovely! So I'm happy to hear that she's been going in and she's so memorable. Only $85/hr for an RMT massage, which is really reasonable, considering you get the spa experience + massage. I was also asked to choose two Aveda essential oils, from a lrg collection which were used during the massage. Absolutely five stars!
