GREAT OUTFIT TO GO ON A KAYAK TRIP TO THE PONTA DA PIEDADE CAVES…read more============================================================= Weeks before my family's trip to Lagos, Portugal I did a lot of research on things to do. One of the things I really wanted to do was to go on one of the boats that would take us kayaking to some of the caves and grottos nearby. We ended up just booking the day before when we arrived in Lagos. It was so easy. There was a kiosk for Days of Adventure just west of our hotel on Avenida Dos Descobrimentos. You can also cross the footbridge to the marina and they have a desk and covered patio area on the southwest side of the marina. It was so easy. They also sell clear covers for your phone which I recommend so your phone doesn't get wet. We walked over the footbridge to the meeting point on Saturday, July 6, 2024 for our 11:00 a.m. check-in. The crew members took us to the boat and we were on our way. Definitely wear swimwear because you will get wet in the kayaks. The main reason is a lot of little boats will go zipping by causing waves. The boat ride was really short at about 15 minutes which was nice. I get seasick, so I took two Dramamine and I was just fine. Two people actually tipped over on the two person kayaks right after they launched it. We all had life vests and the crew was great. They helped the two guys get resituated on their kayak and we were on our way. We had so much fun kayaking around the grottos and caves at Ponte da Piedade. The only thing I didn't like were all the little boats zipping in and out of caves with no respect for getting too close to the kayaks. One guy in his little boat did that multiple times and it was really starting to piss me off, but I kept my mouth shut. I could just see the guy doing something more dangerous. I will send an e-mail to Days of Adventure to complain about that. I don't know if they can control other operators, but who knows.

It requires us to book directly with the vendor so I went to the DaysOfAdventure website and looked at the calendar. Seeing there was a spot open at our preferred time the following day, I called the numbers on the website - not answer. Then, I shot them an email requesting a late morning slot as shown as available on their booking page. I got a pretty quick response from "sales manager" Marco Henriques. He wrote that the time was unavailable and I would have to wait 3-4 days for a late morning/early afternoon time slot - even though their booking page shows multiple slots open tomorrow and it the following days. So I asked Marco, what day can we book for our preferred time? He then replied that my kid and I would not be able to ever have the time we want because tix purchased through third-party bookings can only have the crappy, cold late times. This is not stated ANYWHERE in the purchase agreement, receipt, their website, the booking website - literally nowhere does it say that! The conversation continues but it's not looking good. I'll update the review to share how things turn out.

The day sailing trip lasted from 10am-5pm and included a 3 course meal which was delicious plus wine and water. We saw the beautiful coastline of Algarve and had the chance to see dolphins. We made a stop in front of Lagos and swam around. It was a great day which is why we decided on the motor boat trip the following day. The motor boat is the way to see all the caves and private small beaches along the way. We entered the caves and got so many pictures. We made a stop in the city of Alvor to have lunch at Ze Morgadinho which was so good!! I recommend the clams and a fresh fish. The service of Portiate was one of the best we have had and I would highly recommend them! I can't wait to go back one day with more friends and would like to charter a boat for a week. At 9am, we met Mika at Dona Ana Beach, where we would be SUPing along the incredible golden cliffs and little dotted islands, weaving in and out of magical caves for 3 hours. The boards were great quality + they provided wet suits + Mika helped give us a debriefing on SUP skills - I finally felt like I knew what I was doing this time! He also used his waterproof camera to take photos of us, allowing us to be fully immersed in the experience. After we made it back to shore, we took a break, allowing Mika to take the other SUPers back to their hotel, and allowing us to enjoy our picnic lunch on the seriously beautiful Dona Ana Beach. At 3pm, we met Mika at the next location where we would be Coasteering..!! My husband was way excited, while I was pretty much way nervous, but Mika really did a wonderful job making sure I felt comfortable and supported the entire time. I can honestly say that I had absolute BLAST and am so grateful to have experienced such a beautiful part of our world in this sort of an adventurously-intimate way. My husband did a few of the higher jumps towards the end, while I happily cheered him on. The highlight of the day was the mesmerizing GREEN CAVE! At the end of the day, because we were in our camper van, we loved the location he had taken us so much, that we actually ended up staying for 5 days! I literally forgot where I'm and why, it was just the sun, the ocean and our small group enjoying the tour. Nelson did a great job to prepare us for the SUP tour, he individually coached everybody how to cope with the sea conditions. We were smoothly introduced to new SUP techniques while slowly touring grottos where sun light is magically reflected in the transparent water. Besides the equipment the SUP school provides wetsuits, which was perfect considering the relatively cool water of the ocean. Amazing experience and thanks for the beers! We would definitely love to try the coasteering tour next time we are in Sagres.

Yes but don't go with a company who employs captains who disregards the safety of their passengers. Am I a qualified person to make such a claim? Absolutely. I captain multiple boats and currently drive 120 miles off shore every weekend logging 8x the boating hours than a regular captain per season. My party got absolutely pounded to hell and we all had a terrible time and actually came off the boat angry on how we manage to hit so many waves at the wrong angle. Boat ride was 90% of the trip non-stop back breaking and pounding - with only approx 5 minutes for photo opportunities. We only stopped a few minutes to see around 3 caves in between rough rides that left us unable to enjoy the scenery. Funny thing is, it was not even that rough compare to what nature can give you but it was rough because of the captain. Perhaps he wanted to provide a fun ride to all but he shouldn't do it at the expense of others. Safety is number 1 and thats what look for when i travel. Will you get killed? Of course not. They ask if you have a back prob before you boat, well this is a nice way to create a back problem. Hope they adjust after this review.

We booked our Kayak Tour off Viator, and they booked with Dolphins Driven. There were 3 adults and…read more2 children in our party, and overall there were only 12 adults total in the group for the tour. Options were available for single or double kayaks which was nice for the kids to be paired with each adult, and that I didn't have to pair with a random stranger. The guide spoke english, and was able to answer any questions we had. They took us out to sea via boat and then we got into the kayaks. The water was calm, and even though I was a bit tired - we got to go for 1.5 hours and it was not too challenging. I gave it a 4 out of 5 for 2 reasons: The first was that there really wasn't any instructions, safety briefing or what to expect before getting into the kayaks. It was as simple as hold your paddles here and have the paddles facing this way for forward. It may be an american thing to expect a bit more, but for never kayaking before it made me a bit nervous to not have instruction. The second was that we didn't see the Benagil Caves. We had booked via viator for a Benagil Cave Tour, and the Dolphins Driven promotional photos included photos of the Benagil cave - so it felt a bit misleading.
