At my first appointment he described himself as being a medical 'quarterback'. Not being a sports person, I'm not sure what he meant by it but I found him to be more of a middle manager. He'll take your vitals, order & review blood tests, prescribe some basic meds, but otherwise refers everything out. You don't even have to take off your clothes for any appointments - though this can be a plus if it's what you're looking for. My main issue is that he does not perform annual women's wellness exams. He will refer you to a Gyn. My prior doctor of 15 years & new doctor both regularly perform your annual women's wellness exam especially if pregnancy is not an issue unless you specifically request otherwise or have your own Gyn. For basic annual exams there's no real need for a specialist. My question is does he perform prostate exams on men & or is it just women's wellness he's not comfortable with? Because trust me, I don't like that exam very much either but it's a health necessity. If you're a women he may not be the right fit. He was very thorough in ordering lab test before your visit & taking vitals and reviewing them in great detail but he did not really leave time for addressing patient questions and concerns. By the time I got home I always felt that I didn't have a chance to discuss my concerns or he was dismissive of them. I always come in with a notepad to keep track of my doctor's comments & my questions. I did have one concern that I did a Telehealth appointment. He suggested I come in for a physical exam, which I did, but he never performed the physical exam. I was too embarrassed to ask. I came to Dr. Wallis when my primary care doctor of 15 years moved her practice too far. He came highly recommended. I was contemplating another doctor but chose Dr. Wallis on their recommendation. His concierge service was not feasible so I moved to another doctor who is a good fit.

The doctors and their staff are professional and caring. I haven't had issues with long wait times during my office visits. Referrals to specialists have been reasonably quick and access via their online portal is easy once you get the hang of it. I'm grateful to have such a great team of doctors and highly recommend them.

I have no complaints about him whatsoever. I'll continue seeing him. The strange part is everything surrounding him. The front desk experience has been wildly inconsistent. One person has always been genuinely kind and helpful. A couple of the others have the particular energy of people who seem inconvenienced by the existence of patients. Not rude enough to create a scene, just dismissive enough to make you wonder why healthcare reception so often feels like an underfunded DMV with worse lighting. My first intake experience wasn't much better. The staff member seemed rushed, barely engaged and somehow managed to record my height incorrectly while I wasn't even standing fully upright. The blood pressure check felt similarly mechanical and abrupt. These sound like small things until you remember that these are the measurements physicians are using to make decisions about your health. Details matter. The nurse who handled my vaccinations afterward was much warmer and more personable, which I appreciated, but the process itself felt surprisingly improvised. Supplies were forgotten, there was visible uncertainty about what was being given and there were several little "oops, forgot this" moments. Nothing bad ultimately happened, but when needles and medication are involved, you want boring competence. You want the ritual to feel practiced. That's really the frustration here. There is a very good doctor inside an experience that doesn't consistently rise to his level. Healthcare is already intimate, expensive and stressful enough. The parts around the medicine matter too. The greeting, the measurements, the handoff, the confidence that everyone knows what happens next. Dr. Sun gets my trust. I just wish the operation around him felt as considered as the care he provides.

Parking here...is bad. The small lot in the back of the building has about 23 legit marked parking…read morespaces, and 1 disabled space. I counted 6 vehicles parked along the driveway in unmarked spaces. All 30 spaces (minus 1 that was blocked off) were filled. Despite my waiting in the lot and circling the block, no street or parking lot spaces became available. I waited and circled for 23 minutes for an appt at 1015am. At 1023a I called the tel# listed on the Yelp page and waited on hold for 8 minutes then accepted the auto return callback offer and at 15 minutes the call arrived. I explained I had an appt, but couldn't find parking so I went on with my day. Turns out, the return caller was from the call center, not the office so despite my offering feedback for the unsatisfactory parking situation, I was asked to share it with a suggestion/complaint telephone number. The rep offered to reschedule the appt for the next day...or May...or the location in Venice. I asked if parking would be available (rhetorical question). I declined her offer and explained I'd make other arrangements. This was a despicable experience and I only needed something simple, I can't even imagine what folks do if their needs are more urgent or critical. I'm unclear if there are better times where the parking lot is less busy. This is my 2nd experience at this location and twice now, I struck out on parking and missed both appts. There won't be a third time.

I've never had a problem with the doctors here, but at the same time, it's just another example of…read morea weak medical system. Things always feel slightly rushed; the nurses are trying to get your checkup over with and move on to the next person, the doctors are only there to validate or invalidate your health concerns. They take a brief look at you and you get a prescription, it's all very predictable. No time for meaningful discussion and no one is really going to sit down with you and figure out what's happening in a holistic sense. It's not their fault, it's just the way this works. You want info? Pay more... but chances are you'll hit another dead end at some point. Again, not specific to Optum, but truly disheartening. All this modern tech and AI nonsense, and the best we can do is a flashlight up your nose and an educated guess.

How to go from a former ***** Five Star Rating down to a * One Star Rating? ...and if I could…read moreassign a lower rating I would, honestly So, this is how you do it... LOSE YOUR HUMANITY AND REPLACE IT WITH TECHNOLOGY. Optim is HORRIBLE by the system. You call and are instandly placed into a IVR, interactive voice recording decision tree system... having to punch buttons over and over and over and over and over again and again and again. Then they decide to shuttle your call... one hour later, I'm still in limbo. I was originally sent to the Redondo Beach office, then they transfered me internally but never serviced me after 30+ minutes... then I hung up to start it over again and was sent to a another call center who then transferred me to the Northridge office instead of the Redondo Beach office to make an appointment... then I had to hang up and call again and was sent to a general call center, whether in the USA, India, Philippines or somewhere off-short, they were of zero help. They said they'd contact the Redondo Beach office to give me a call back. I have ZERO faith in their abilities and humanity on the call center level. The people who work in the office, starting from the front desk to all of the medial assistants and doctors are * * * * * Five Star, Great. What I truly hate about OPTIM is their migration towards technology which they're inept at handling properly. They keep pushing their APP / WEBSITE or PORTAL which is not user friendly, not intuitive and neglected, even by way of when contacting physicians and getting responses. I also truly HATE their phone system at Optim. I don't trust their Chat option, as Optim needs to improve the way they approach client services and customer care of the patients. Their calls go directly to what I think they call "Patient Support Services" which is not the local location of the service, so in my case, not in Redondo Beach. The way Optim approaches how they handle their customers, it inspires customers to seek care from another provider. I'm sure most large medical organizations all use technology and seek an organization who handles technology correctly. I predict the way Optim will approach A.I., Artificial Intelligence will be with a lack of human intelligence and reliance on automation and flawed. I hope they will read just how horrible their LACK OF QUALITY COMMUICATION skills and services are as I've seen many bad reviews that mimic and mirror my experiences and opinions. This is what happens when you let the machines take over.

My PCP on the other hand, takes time to really get to know me. Maybe it's a specialist thing? I feel like I have to prepare my questions ahead of time because she's very matter-of-fact and seems like she's in a rush. Today I spent an hour and 10 minutes at the doctor's office when it was just a follow-up appointment. She ends up meeting with me and then says that she'll be back with the injections. The nurse comes in with the materials. And then I wait. For about 20 minutes. Which usually usnt unreasonable but since I literally just saw her, and she said she would be "right back," you begin to worry. Anyone with small kids know the anxiety around picking up your kids in time, especially around 5 o'clock. The poor nurse mentioned that he was going to message her. Someone else said that she was pulled into an emergency procedure. I began to question how long this emergency procedure would actually go on for, since I had to pick up my two kids. She came back 20 minutes later. I explained my frustration and she said that she understood, but did not seem apologetic at all nor did she apologize. I asked if she had an emergency procedure that she had to attend to, and she said that there wasn't any, but that she was with another patient. It would've all been solved if before she left said that she will be going to visit another patient and it would be about 15 minutes. Then, at that point I would've made arrangements for someone else to pick up my kids. My issue is that she wasn't apologetic or empathetic, nor did she have the best bedside manners to begin with. This whole experience was so off-putting that I am switching dermatologists.
