While I missed a Micky D's trip while I was in Spain, I was able to keep up my Starbucks record...but I was able to check off another tradition - visit a local brewery in every country I visit. Well, I was actually able to visit two while in Spain. YOLO. Came in the Fabrica Maravillas after spotting it on Yelp - since it was a quick (relatively) walk from our hotel. I was on a mission to connect with my good bud - Mr. Yelp Madrid, Lolo R - and this was where we decided to meet up to have a beer and catch up. Super friendly bartender that explained each beer for us and recommended the one I went with - The Dark Ale. It was fantastic. Sweet notes, perfectly carbonated and not too heavy. Their glasses are in 3 sizes - small, medium, large. The Medium is a good size as it is. 2 mediums and a small was only 10€. I also got a bottle that was €4 (50cl). It was hoppy and went PERFECT with a fried seafood plate I had it with when I got back home. Small tap room - as are all places in Spain, but they are brewing up some good stuff! Check them out! Side note - Shout out to the guy in there that was also from Fort Lauderdale and overheard me talking and immediately hollered out "FUNKY BUDDHA!" haha super nice guy, hope you find this review dude. They sell beer from Louisville Kentucky's Against the Grain Brewing that I can't even get where I live! All those Spaniards out there need to check that brewery out! One suggestion: Start stocking Crew Republic beer from Germany. It's fantastic!

Interesting, a Scottish beer in Spain. I was used to seeing typical beers or those associated with Spanish culture. I walked inside and immediately noticed the great organized shelving and the colorful labels. They had beers from all over the world. There was Coopers from Australia, Left Hand Brewery from Colorado (go CO!), Flying Dog from the East Coast, great bitter beer from England, a vast collection of Belgian ales, local beers and ciders. The staff is very helpful and passionate about beer. They will gladly answer your questions. They have, in my opinion, great prices for the beers too. I don't know what people regularly pay for beer, but considering these are all imports, I was impressed with the prices. I'm looking forward to my next beer when I can show up with a vast worldwide collection of great beer.

This is the spot to come for beer, wine, and it looks like for the food too! We ended up not eating here as we just came in for a nightcap. We sat on the left side of the bar nearest the windows to do some nighttime watching of Madrid folks walking and going by on a rainy Sunday. We were served promptly after selecting a seat at the bar and given some cheese and a small portion of bread pieces. There is a large digital menu showcasing the beers they have on tap with all of the details such as ABV, whether the beer was made in-house at La Canibal, what region the beer is coming from, size/portions offered, and the price. We ended up sticking with the beers La Canibal brewed in house that include a Hefeweizen and a Kolsh-style/easy drinking beer. We were. very pleased with the tastings of the beer and the offerings to have taster-size to large size beers. This was a very lively place with many folks catching up with each other, laughing, having a great time, and is just the perfect spot to have some wine, beer, and food. Both of these dishes were delicious as the meat was tender and flavorful. I didn't care too much for the potato in the octopus though, but all tasty still. If you time it right, you can grab this table and stuff your pie hole with local sausages, cured meats, and Spanish wine, beer or Vermouth while watching Madridian life pass you by. There may not be a better way to ruin what could have been an otherwise productive day! The menu is substantial but is largely made up of combinations of the various cured meats and cheeses that the shop is known for. Unlike spots that promote only Iberian ham and Manchego cheese, Casa González has all manner of meats and cheeses so it is a fantastic spot to go to for variety within this genre. I think that only strict vegans will be angered by what is on offer here. I recommend Casa Gonzalez for a meat and cheese orgy if you are in the area. They have been doing this since 1931 so you know that they have a winning formula.
