Gorgeously preserved seats, wood, sculptures, stained glass, historic cafe, and don't miss those yummy balcony columns outside! I was a little disappointed that during the night performance, the patio area with the famous mosaic columns was completely closed off. It's one of the highlights of the building, and I was really hoping to see it lit up at night. Apparently, it's only open during day tours, which is kind of a bummer if you're only going for a show. We all made separate reservations but came as a group since the place booked us all at 9pm. We read the dress code on the website and it says "no flip flops" and "no athletic shoes." Nothing said "no sandals" and definitely nothing said "you must wear heels." We get to the establishment - which didn't even open on time. They made us stand in line for 20 minutes. As we all approach the door, the glorified bouncers decide we can't come in because we're wearing "flip flops." Allegedly. NONE OF THE LADIES have on flip flops - we're all wearing dressy sandals - flat sandals, but dressy/nice. The bouncers then proceed to go to the back of the line and get all the white patrons and bring them inside - many of them wearing both athletic shoes/sneakers (dirty ones at that) or flat sandals (some white girls even had on the EXACT SAME SHOES as some of the ladies in our group)! We asked to speak to the manager. She came out and acknowledged us for about 2 minutes then quickly ran back inside. I should make it known that the lighter-skinned folks in our group were allowed in for their reservation - even the ones with flat sandals. It's evident Gatsby is incredibly wealthy and incredibly racist because they just turned away 45 BLACK patrons. They evidently don't need our coins and they don't need yours. The staff insisted they use 6cl of gin in each drink -- but honestly, it tasted like tonic water with little to no gin at all. For a place branding itself as a gin bar, this was extremely disappointing. The drinks were weak, overpriced for what we received, and the experience felt misleading. Sadly, I would not recommend this place if you actually expect a proper gin & tonic.
