They almost lost a 6 year customer because of their actions. So let me break it down for you: It was our first year of marriage and we had no idea what was more beneficial, filing joint, or seperate. We relocated to Ocala from NY so had moving expenses to claim. I had paid for two semester of my college tuition to claim. So my husband (not knowing better) filed his taxes alone, when we went back to file mine, we were helped by an old man at the H&R block off maricamp in the Shores. Not only was he beyond confused to even help us, he basically made us go back to the original location off 36th & Silver Springs Bl\vd. So we went over the the office and had a women help us, who had NO CLUE what she was doing. She kept telling me we couldn't claim my moving expenses and do an amendment because we would loose our refund. I kept asking her why, and basically her answer to ANY question I had was "Well you can always file it on your own" - I looked her dead in the face and said, "No thanks, I like paying your huge fee for absolutely no reason. Obviously I don't know how to do this, or I wouldn't be here". Not only that, but they still advertised for an instant refund, which they no longer provided, but I had to mail my own forms, and wait 6 weeks for my amendment. Around the 6 week mark, I kept calling the Tax Line and then proceeded to call them everyday, and they couldn't find me! Finally I received a letter asking for my W-2's. I was like "What the heck?" So I opened my H&R packet to find someone elses paperwork with their SSN, phone #, you name it, and no W-2s. When I show up to the office, a woman hands me my files with our W-2s and says "How did you send your taxes when we have them?" I couldn't believe I was paying for this ring around circus act, and basically had to depend on myself to figure it out. $250 for someone to type my personal info in the system, while I had to do the rest. And worst of it all, no appoligies, no offering to refund me any type of discount.

This year we went with Melanie and the incompetence from her when it comes to foster & adoption is beyond comprehendable to me. If you are going to work in the field of taxes, you should know what you are doing. Don't call the customer saying you can't do something, without actually being educated on it. Especially when it deals with those people's finances. Thankfully another sweet lady Carol Todd from another H&R Block location was able to assist us. Matter of fact, she had it done within minutes. If you need adoption credits done, I highly suggest going to Carol Todd. She came to our local Foster group meeting and thankfully I remembered her name so she could help us when Melanie couldn't. Anyway, when we first filed with Melanie in February, I already had a bad feeling about choosing her. She kept messing up & didn't seem to know what she was doing. I let it go because we all get a little flustered sometimes. I left feeling uneasy though. While we waited on our tax return I kept telling my husband, "but what if she didn't do something right?"... His response was "that's why we pay h&r block extra so they fix things they mess up". Needless to say I felt so unwhelmed when it came to the knowledge Melanie had when we first filed. Then today she calls us to tell me we can Amend for the Adoption Credit due to our child being adopted through the state. Don't listen when they say that. Me... A person who knows nothing about taxes was able to easily access the right information on the IRS website. Anyway, I've never had an issue like this in the past With H&R block. We've filed the past few years with Virgina, and I strongly regret not doing that this year.
