We are still functioning and find animals very relaxing. I've been a cat owner my entire life and we've also adopted rescue animals. We tried adopting through both the Vancouver SPCA and the Cat Cafe. I found the staff and volunteers were often uninformed about the animals. When we did find an animal that would be well suited to us - we were often told that it was already pending adoption. I tried to explain that it was devastating to my child (age 12) to meet and bond with an animal, only to be told it wasn't available. They refused to hold animals, so we could meet them and, if suitable, adopt without being told, "Oops, this one is already spoken for". An acquaintance of mine used to work for RAPS and often posted available cats on her Facebook page. I saw a beautiful, big black cat named "Nero". I called them and explained our unique situation and how we had found difficulty with other agencies. They invited me to submit an online application and come down to meet the cat. I did. He was perfect. They agreed to hold him for a day and a half so my son could meet him. We adopted him and he is a pleasure. My son is less anxious at night with the newly named, "Oliver" in his room and sleeps better. I hang out with him during the day. The staff were all so kind and professional to us. I can't praise or thank them enough.

I visited the shelter earlier to-day as I was interested in a small poodle which was offered for adoption. The animal was presented to me held on a tight leash by the shelter person, who was standing with the pet behind a metal fenced door. The pet's look was of friendliness and curiosity. I chatted with the attendant and requested that I be allowed to hold the dog on its leash. The attendant refused saying that the dog can be aggressive and she cannot allow him being handled by a visitor. If really the shelter believes that a small pet is so dangerous that it cannot be offered for walking a few steps on leash with a potential adopter and that it must be kept behind a strong fence which only their handler can access, then in my opinion this shelter is irresponsible in offering the cute little monster for adoption. The reason I'm granting them 2 stars instead of one, is because their personnel at the reception has been kind and helpful.

S.A.I.N.T.S. is a sanctuary for senior and special needs animals that have no where else to go…read more They provide a loving environment and proper medical care for all residents. We finally visited S.A.I.N.T.S. this weekend. Well overdue - for years! This animal haven for senior and special needs animals was just heart-warming and full of love. Founder, Carol Hine is a nurse during the day and a "saint" by night. She started this sanctuary in 2004 and it's grown into a beautiful home and 3-acre property to these wonderful animals. Some of the animals have ended up at S.A.I.N.T.S. as a result of animal cruelty cases, abandonment, extended stays at animal shelters, owners moving, owners not being able to afford looking after their sick or disabled animals any longer. Weekly tours happen at the facility on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00am. Ours was led by long-time volunteer, Dawne. She did a great job providing background info and a thorough explanation of what S.A.I.N.T.S. is all about, how they care for the animals and the stories behind some of their furry residents. They currently have 130+ animals under their care including dogs, cats, horses, llamas, sheep, pigs... S.A.I.N.T.S. is always looking for volunteers, sponsorship (you can even choose which animal), and donations (monetary and non). There's a "wish list" on their site as to the items they're always in need of and you can easily donate and sponsor via their site too. S.A.I.N.T.S. has done an amazing job of turning a bad or unwanted experience into a happy sanctuary of love. Thank you for saving and caring for the animals!

The animals are so sweet and they are all very happy and friendly, I love those elderly dogs they are the most adorable dogs a group was a feeding and they were so cute all on their own pillow with their food and for the dogs that need help a helper was hand feeding one they are all very loved and it shows in their happy faces, and the farm animals are just as wonderful they are all gentle and friendly and everyone gets along, these beautiful animals are so special they are friendly and have excellent manners i really don't know their previous owners can not want them and unless it's an extreme circumstance such death or sickness of the owner how someone could abandon them and some in such cowardly ways i read the adorable pig we saw was dumped off in a mountain, that poor pig must have been terrified, for the animals here I think every single one of them is living the happiest days of their lives here they are treated like the treasures they are, such caring people who save them and love them. I've never met Carol but she's a very special lady to open up her home and create this sanctuary for elderly and unwanted animals she is a saint. It's so worth it to go on the tour even if your not an animal lover you will be by the end of the tour, I think they do tours on the weekends you may want to check their website but I can see donations are well appreciated it all goes for the animals I wished I had more cash on me to donate but will next time. Also, the volunteers here are so nice, and really helpful in giving you the lowdown on whatever cat you're interested in. Looking forward to visiting again!

They are the best organization with amazing volunteers and fosterers with the felines best interests at heart. I wouldn't have traded my adoptees for the world and would hope if my cats ever got lost they'd find their way to this organization as I know they'd be safe. I donate monthly to them as I know the amazing work thy do.

But I know of them now and I'm glad that I do. They are amazing. A friend of mine reached out to let me know about VOKRA after I had posted about finding a kitten in nearby hedges. They collected some information and even sent out a volunteer to check they area for any other kittens or their mom. What impressed me most was the follow up and care they offered. Their recommended next steps were all thoughtful and showed a true interest in the well-being of the kitten. Thank you to all those volunteering with VOKRA. I'd highly recommend their services to anyone looking to adopt a kitten or trying to reunite lost/found kittens.

That was Wednesday & heard nothing back until following Monday when they left a message that SABLE had been adopted. I understand its probably all Volunteer there...but very disappointing.

Trugoal Puppy Services…read more I recently read a negative review of Trugoal puppy Services. In the review It stated that the puppies where puppy mill dogs. In his defence and have adopted a puppy from Trugoal, I did months of looking around he was courteous and helpful in every way. He also provided me with several references which all where very happy with their puppy. In fact, my puppy did have an unforseen vet bill and Trugoal voluntarily paid the deductible on my insurance without hesitation. While some people may have an axe to grind, why not check with a credible source like the spca (which is what I did), they told me that they had visited Turgoal on Serveral occassions and have always found their facility to be exemplary. Have they had complaints..YES and when they where investigated the complaints where found to have had no merit. I have also been to the facility in Chilwack and there are no cages of any kind. It is a resort like situaition, not a puppy mill of ahy kind. People, let's keep are criticism in perspective and not say hurtful things unless we are certain that what we are saying is in deed true. PS We are now considering getting a second puppy ( guess that says it all).
