From initial consultation to start of the work, everything was smooth and very simple - he explained very clearly what was needed and kept making sure I had no questions. During the same visit, as he was assessing the roof on my garage, he inquired if I ever considered a skylight for the bonus room. In like manner, he had an assessment and estimate in my hands and, after I agreed, likewise made a point to begin the work as soon as he could. I've attached pictures to show progress. I am beyond pleased with the final product. Not only did they install a beautiful skylight, they repainted the rest of the wall to match and the finished work looks as if it were installed as part of the original bonus room. Douglas and his team clearly know roofing, windows, and framing. And their skills back up their work. To make things even better, when a subsequent wind & rain storm resulted in a few drips on the sides of the skylight, Douglas and team were back within days to reassess their work - they removed the skylight, re-checked and shored up the lining, and reinstalled the window in less than a day at no additional cost. Douglas and his company stand by their word and their work. It is a lost attribute in this world of service-providers, and thus working with them was refreshing. I was new to the area and took a year-and-a-half interviewing roofers -- seven in total. Because I…read morewas looking for a roof on a sprawling ranch house with all manner of twists and turns, I knew I had to find someone with a level of expertise on which I could depend. In addition, I also planned to roof a freestanding cottage, potting shed and two barns. Jon was the only roofer to express enthusiasm over what was a decidedly complicated job. His company also provides siding and sun tunnels, and they were able to patch some siding to match existing material and install a sun tunnel in my kitchen. This is the kind of one-stop shopping I was thrilled to have. The team, under the leadership of Angel, also replaced six skylights with solar-powered blinds that reap credits come tax season. They were also able to spray foam into a rotted exterior beam and finish it off with a custom-molded lead cap they painted to match the wood. There was nothing they couldn't do, and my requests (which dribbled in as the work proceeded) were never met with anything but total professionalism and suggestions for how it could be done. When Jon and I first discussed the job, I was still debating what type of roofing to install. My lack of focus dragged on for several months, and Jon would check back with me at intervals and send me product links for what he thought I might like. I looked at everything from metals, thatch, cedar shakes, faux shakes, slate and tile. A lot of the products I was interested in initially were discontinued but showed up in online searches as if they were available. Jon diligently pursued what products were still on the market, which helped me avoid going down a rabbit hole in attempting to find the "perfect" product. This forward-thinking support was invaluable in helping me narrow down my choice -- Presidential Shakes by Certainteed in an autumn blend. This product is absolutely stunning and provides a rustic accent to my quirky home, which features very low rooflines where the shingles are a visible characteristic of the home. These shingles are offset from one another and are subtly multicolored in the most pleasing of tones. They have a cottage feel that often mimcs thatch or slate. I am a graphic designer so my standards for visual appeal might be more demanding than most. I urged Jon to take a drone video of the job, because I think this project fully shows off his company's capabilities. Once you contact Jon Rigali, your search will be over. Towards the end of last year, I had several companies come out and quote for a full roof…read morereplacement. Golden Group gave me the best feeling about the job from the initial discussion. Where other contractors canceled appointments, arrived late, or were just no-shows - Mikel (out of their Hudson office) arrived on time and did a thorough assessment of the roof including taking drone footage. He sat with me and walked me through the whole process clearly, explaining all my choices in materials and didn't push any product or add-on. I did receive marginally cheaper quotes, but they did not leave me feeling like my home was in good hands in the same way that Mikel did, and I felt the extra money was likely to be worth it. Once I decided to go ahead with them, again, everything was done very professionally. I was kept informed of times and everybody showed up exactly when they said they would. I made a small change to the scope of the work in replacing additional plywood sections of the roof, and these were easily accommodated on short notice. On the day of the work, the crew showed up on time and Jurgan (the site foreman) kept everything moving with minimal disruption to us. I was working from home, and my wife and kids were in and out of the house for school and errands. Despite replacing the entire roof of the main building and two additions over approximately 9 hours, there was minimal disruption to our days. The house was protected during the work, and even with snow still on the ground, their cleanup crew constantly walked the property picking up and disposing of any debris, nails, old material etc. Ultimately the roof was replaced successfully and looks good. Every step of the job was explained to me, every question answered, and every decision explained. The team was professional, punctual and courteous throughout. A couple of weeks in and we've had snow, rain and strong winds. Everything is still perfect. I can highly recommend Mikel and Jurgan from Golden Group, Hudson.

Full disclosure: I did not proceed past an estimate with MTS. MTS came out at my request to give…read moreme an estimate regarding what appeared to be an old leak. We found this when removing wallpaper. MTS came out and, to their credit, quickly diagnosed the problem which required new lead around chimney ($775) and 3 new pipe boots on the rear roof pipes ($825). MTS went on to say we needed a new skylight installed for $2800 - the estimate stated that they were "not responsible for interior skylight finish." The total estimate was $4,400. I have had 2 estimates since then and both companies agree with the assessment of the chimney and roof pipes - although I feel it's worth noting that MTS made this estimate from the ground versus getting up on the roof. The other companies indicated that we did not need a new skylight, but if we needed to the same exact Velux would be $1500. I'm writing this to say - do your homework. We could have paid $4,400 to MTS but are paying roughly $700 elsewhere.

I was in the market to get two, well-past-their-prime doors replaced at my home; a storm door and…read morethe entry door. Faced with, once again, the prospect of having to gather names, call people, setup appointments for estimates, and all the other fun and excitement that comes with hiring for home projects, I resigned myself, against my own better judgement, to go to a big box store to get everything done through them. I mean, it's just doors. How much of a hassle could it be? Notice how I said, "against my own better judgement". Needless to say, it was a fiasco and details are for another review. Despite the drama, I did manage to eke out a ballpark figure of an estimate that included hardware and installation/labor costs so I at least knew how much this was going to cost me no matter who performed the install. Otherwise, I found myself back at square one until I was talking with a friend about this project. He asked why I didn't call Scott's Siding and Remodeling (SSR) as they do doors too, not just roofing and siding. Given my wonderful experience with the roof, I promptly called SSR after hours and left a message with the answering service. Scott called me back the next day and we went over some of the preliminary details. We scheduled a day so he could come out to see what needed to be done, take measurements, etc. Before that though, he said he would mail me a packet containing catalogs for storm and entry doors for me to sift through. Sure enough two days later, the package arrived in a professional-appearing and addressed envelope. Everything Scott said that would be in the package was and I went immediately to work on looking at and choosing what I wanted for the doors and hardware. The catalogs offered far more and better options than the big box store which was nice to see. As with the roof experience, Scott showed up on time and was ready to assess the project. After we ironed out the details and measurements taken, I offered up my choices from the catalog which he promptly recorded. My order would be custom, so there was at least a three week delay while the order processed, then once they were in, we'd go over getting an installation date. I planned for at least a month, month and a half time span from order to completed install. The price? Pretty much on par with what the big box store was asking. SSR came in a few hundred dollars higher, but that did not bother me at all; you get what you pay for. That was late August. Fast-forward to early October. Scott called saying he had a sudden opening and wanted to know if I was available the following day. I was on vacation from work, so it could not have been better timing. Scott informs me that my doors will be delivered in the afternoon and "Don" will be at my house the next day at 8-8:30AM. At around 12:30PM, the doors and all applicable materials were delivered as promised. The next morning at 8:15, again on time, Don and Ed arrive. After rechecking measurements and looking at the physical doors, they went to work. Don and Ed were very professional and friendly. I had no misgivings about their abilities. They worked at a steady pace and methodically. I never got the sense they were in a hurry which I liked. The impression I got was they wanted the job done in a timely manner, but done right, not half-assed like the previous doors had been. By about 2PM, the job was complete. The new doors were in, trim replaced, jamb, sill, and a small part of the trim on the outside of the door was replaced too which was appreciated. The result is a clean, proportionate aesthetic that makes the doors look a bit more classy. I could not be happier with the end result! Throughout the project, Don and Ed cleaned up the work area and even swept my driveway off of wood shavings/dust despite my insistence it wasn't necessary as I was going to wash and vacuum my car. The professionalism and quality workmanship is refreshing and quite lacking in this industry. It's reassuring to see there are companies like SSR who are high above the usually negative contractor reputation. Listen, if my roof review wasn't good enough, this second review serves as more ammo at what a class-act SSR is. I can't stress it enough that SSR should be on your list of potential hires for your next home project, if not the company hired, if you're looking for no hassles and quality work.
