Best of all, it's across the street from the Mikkeller Bar which has some great beer :) The bathrooms (co-ed) were clean and there was storage available if you wanted to lock up your bags/belongings (bring a lock). I thought the room was a little small for 6 people but it was fine for one night. Unlike other hostels that have bunk beds, this hostel uses a bunch of boxed pods stacked one above the other. There is a privacy curtain which was great and a small light as well inside the pod for nighttime reading.

Breakfast is served from 8:00-10:00 and it includes coffee/tea, homemade muesli with yogurt and breakfast rolls with hummus, jam and cheese. I always felt full afterwards. There is wifi in the cafe part of the hostel, not in the dorms - which is the only thing I would have changed. They also do not have a public kitchen so, if you're staying there for a longer time, buy non perishable foods you can store in your locker. Bathrooms and showers are clean. As well as the rooms. Linen and locks are free. They lock the doors at 10:00pm, but offer keys (for a deposit) to any night owl who think they might be out late. The beds are designed like "cupboards", which offers privacy and shelter from the light. Receptionists were very kind and helpful, they were more than happy to answer anyone's questions.

The city is not an inexpensive place, and I was a bit surprised to find anywhere for the price they offer. That it isn't smack on top of the public trans is a pest, perhaps, but it's a short cab ride to drop your luggage if you don't feel like going the two block walk from the nearest bus stop, and the place is usually quiet, which I found frankly refreshing. The cost includes linen, if not a towel, a key card that grants access to your room and your personal locker which obviates the need of bringing a lock, and there's an add-on option for a cheap all-you-can-eat breakfast [I had a lot of muesli and hot tea]. The rooms and bathrooms both were spotless when I stayed, and the hot water was plentiful. They did -not- have a kitchen which troubled me a bit, but they'll allow you to bring food from outside, just not alcohol.

This is one of the worst hostels I've stayed in. I thoroughly hated my whole experience here…read more It's NOT close to the Central train station. If carrying or wearing luggage, it's far too long a walk, I would suggest a bus. Once you've lightened your load it's possible to walk the city, but I'd still want to get back to the area before dark. The route to the hostel is through quiet side streets in a not-so-great area of town. Once you find the place, check in takes forever. When you get to your room, you're affronted with 3 bunk high beds and lockers that are noisy and faulty. I was unlucky enough to get a bed on the top, which was incredibly hard for me to get to because I'm not exactly tall. I was afraid to take cold medication because there was no guard rail of any kind, nor was getting down any easier than getting up. The bed felt rickety, the mattress was uncomfortable and the room was loud. The internet didn't work at all in the room. For that matter it didn't really work anywhere else very well either. And then there's the bathroom. It always stank, the floor was always covered in water. The showers had nowhere to put/hang your clothes or towel. The doors were always open, both the one leading into the hostel and the one leading outside, so there were often bugs. The toilets often didn't even work. Traveling expensive countries is nothing new to me. The price of this hostel was faaaaar too high for it's quality, regardless if it's Denmark.

The price is very fair for the really convenient location. We took advantage of the free walking tour - which I highly recommend especially if you (like us) aren't too familiar with Danish history. The bar is very lively and convivial, ended up being a great place both to start and end our nights. It's not exactly a quiet hostel, but we didn't have any major issues. Towels and locks are not provided, so make sure to bring your own or purchase at check in. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would stay again.

This hostel is a 15 minute walk to Strøget, a street lined with stores and interesting things. There is also a Købmand right across the street. There's a bar connected to the hostel, happy hour at 8-9 that offers three varieties of beverage deals for only 60 DKK; 1L of beer, two servings of liquor with a mixer of your choice, or 10 of each shot they have on offer. I had a rum and coke the evening I stayed, and there's always a different event every evening, I feel the whole concept of this place is innovative and geared towards keeping patrons amused. Shower is mostly sanitary, good water pressure, and though it is a popular hostel, I didn't experience having to wait my turn to shower / use the bathroom. There was always one available. The rooms where the capsules are seems to be quite safe, people leave their belongings around in the shared space, and everyone - at least in my experience - were friendly, respectful, and open to helping each other, the diversity of this place was a pleasant experience for me. Now onto the negatives... The LIVE musician on Tuesday, 18/4/23 (they had LIVE music every Tuesday night at the bar) was subpar. Volume over anything else, it seems. I sat and listened to him for about an hour, and I don't feel like he has much awareness, more so, control over his pitch - which is a common theme among hobby musicians. He's very much "guy who plays Wonderwall at parties", and not so much "Someone who gets paid actual money to entertain a crowd" The elevator is ancient. There's a novelty to it, which I truly and genuinely appreciate. But there are no indicators as to what is happening while you wait for the elevator. The button feels like a Fisher Price toy, and after you press it, nothing happens until it arrives - when does it arrive? Did you or did you not click the button properly? Only God and the building manager knows. It also says the elevator fits 4 people - I think that only counts if those 4 people are runway models... Unless you don't care about personal space, that is. The food... Oh god the food. For the price, you can definitely find better in town. I had pizza for 80 DKK, which is the standard price for it generally. The dough was soggy, like it had been made with hands that's cursed to never stop sweating. The slice, held up, was limp and sad, it wasn't great. In the morning I ordered a veggie toast with olives, that one was better, though the portions are small. But I recommend their toasts over the pizza. Check-in at reception was easy and quick, it was pleasant for us. But if you're landing from a long flight or arriving after a long commute in the evening (after 19:00), get ready to check-in at the bar, where the reception is, among loud and intoxicated customers. This isn't necessarily a negative, but I feel like it should be addressed. For 240 DKK a night, this hostel wasn't bad at all. But I feel the tagline "Copenhagen's Most Popular Hostel" can be misleading in that it fails to capture "perhaps it's popular due to the price, and not necessarily the overall quality". However I will definitely still recommend this hostel, while making sure you're aware of the uglier parts of it. Thanks for hosting us, Copenhagen Downtown Hostel :)

After my reservation was finished, they let me know they did not receive my call and there was an error with hotels.com. Fantastisk Sted At Gå Ned I København!…read more SITREP If you don't read Danish, that's my excited utterance of "Great Place To Crash In Copenhagen!" And a shout out to my yelpie Bridget W. and my trippy Mette for both cluing me onto this veritable hostel paradise! THE SETUP So what happened is on my flight out of Stockholm, Sweden, I ended up with a one (1) day layover in Copenhagen before going on to San Francisco. Now, this was PLANNED - I knew I had the layover: it was either this or pay $400 more for the next least expensive round trip between San Francisco and Stockholm (and back). As it turned out, I was already spending 10 days in the Baltic States with friends, hitting Sweden, Estonia, Russia and Finland. Unfortunately, there was no time in that itinerary to hit Denmark (nor Norway, for that matter, though technically, although also part of "Scandinavia", Norway is not a Baltic state). So an extra stop on the return leg in Copenhagen for a full day presented itself to me and I was happy to take it. DOWNTOWN DISTRICT AND CLOSE TO AIRPORT As soon as I jetted back into Copenhagen Airport (my 2nd time here in addition to my 1st two (2) hour layover in this airport on way to Stockholm), I jumped into the rail-car at the adjacent train station. Not more than 12 mins, I was at the downtown Central Train Station, and only a block and a half from Urban House! URBAN HOUSE It's right on the corner, with the front door in the middle of the block (just a block and a half up from one of the train station's entrances). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=JZdnyOCkTnIibGTVoHJ-bA&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w The fees are very reasonable: at the time I was making my reservation for the middle of July, it was $35 a night in a dorm room. I pulled the trigger on a SINGLE room with a bathroom for only $94.71/night. Easily just a third of the cost of even the more "moderately" priced hotels in Downtown Copenhagen, near the airport. And most of the time I would be on a walk-a-bout and not in the room anyways, so I didn't want to waste my money there. The room didn't have a TV anyways - entertainment was outside of the room. ENTERTAINMENT! ..and speaking of entertainment, Urban House had a full-on bar / cafe / "Student Union"-feel open area at street level. In fact, the guy serving beers, took a quick break so he could check me in. The gal that was serving breakfast the next day was the one who checked me out: as it turns out, a good consolidation of tasks combined in their multi-talented staff. I ventured out in the afternoon and evening (twice actually) to grab some excellent Thai food back in the Train Station. And then again to a bar a few blocks away that was hosting a Jazz festival. There was plenty to do, places to eat, immerse oneself into the night life, all within blocks of Urban House. No car needed. THE ROOM As mentioned no TV, but that was not missed. There was a desk and chair which was nice since this is where I spent any of my waking-time while in the room. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=NuynCk7VfBPS6-Fn4XhFuQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w The bathroom was a fascinating engineered piece of configuration, especially when it came to the adjacent proximity of the toilet and shower: a good economy of space! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=AJLhvC82t2aCaZBooEwbAw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w There are never enough pillows wherever I go (hotel, motel, etc.), and unfortunately, this went doubly so for this. It's rare when I have to dip into my travel gear and find a jacket and extra pair of pants and fold/roll them up just so I can get a bit more height on the shallow pillow they give you. It is what it is. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/urban-house-k%C3%B8benhavn-2?select=T9RWvTNb8ZgaFlkcvFW5uw&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w THE LOWDOWN A reasonably affordable stop when touring through Copenhagen. Should I find myself traveling alone in this fair city once more, I totally would consider staying here again.
