This is my favorite shop in Venice--such beautiful things. I've always found the staff pleasant.

Don't let bad reviews scare you away from this quaint little shop in Venice. I stumbled upon the store while walking around Venice looking for holiday gifts for family. This was a rare case where my wife and I bought products and then went to yelp afterwards to read a review on how helpful and knowledgeable the staff was, but I read several reviews talking about how rude the customer service was. I couldn't have had a more opposite experience. All of the inventory they hold is so unique and I haven't seen it anywhere else. I had several questions about the glass and drinkware, and we ended up buying a whole wine glass set made from reclaimed glass (how cool?!). Prices on some items are pretty high, but there are great fines for affordable prices within the store. The staff was super helpful, and I met the French owner who checked us out, and she was very lovely. We are going to go back for stocking stuffers! read more

The people who are giving the bad reviews just need to chill. It's a great store with the Wonderfull workers. Judging on the accent or nationality is not OK. The retail workers are tired, underpaid and exhausted from the clients unreasonable demands. The small shops are hit by shoplifters, homeless and drug addicts all the time. Had a great experience shopping for my mom at Bazar. Ian was great and helped me pick the perfect gift! I will be back.

French owner rude and unfriendly. She reminds me of some of the rudest people that I came in contact with while visiting France. The store has some beautiful hand made clothing however the owners attitude put me off, so much that I refused to spend my money at her shop. The owner must feel miserable. Otherwise, she wouldn't treat people with such disdain. read more

They have the most beautiful jewelry but the worst staff. I went in today after having been a repeat customer. I told the woman this, that I have a mini collection of necklaces from Bazar made by a local Venice jeweler. I asked for their name because I can't remember and the woman rudely said "there is no designer" ... this woman is new, I let her know I've purchased multiple pieces and I've been told the artisan's name before but can't remember. The woman continued to say "we don't have the name, it falls under Bazar, it is general stock" so clearly this woman has no idea what she's talking about. She was also condescending when I asked for prices for certain pieces, saying "oh, that piece? Yeah, that's expensive..." and I would then have to say "ok yes I assume, what's the price" only for her then to tell me the price finally. She assumed I couldn't afford anything in the store and was not subtle about it. I settled on a piece, she made me confirm the price 3 times. I told her I didn't have my wallet and I had to use Apple Pay; she said this was okay. I go to do it and she asks for my ID. I have never been asked for my ID with an Apple Pay before, and I've spent more money than this. The woman denied me saying she needs my ID. I reminded her that I don't have my wallet, thus no ID, and she then asked me why I didn't have my ID saved in my phone. Condescending again. I walked out. Overall really awful experience, I honestly don't know if I'll ever go back and this was my favorite place to go for jewelry for years. Such a shame read more

I have never been treated with such disrespect in a store before! I walked in with a few of my friends on my day off because I wanted to buy some perfume. After browsing for a couple minutes and smelling a few scents, I decided to ask for directions to Le Labo so I could compare and make a final decision on a new perfume. I'm not familiar with the area so I asked the woman who worked there (bangs, with a what I assume was a French accent) how to get to the store. She scoffed, threw her head back and laughed, then proceeded to say in a condescending manner, "Pffft, it's down the Street..." I asked her if this was a problem and she said, "It's just weird to me that you would ask where another perfume store is when you're already in a perfume store." WHAT?! I'm sorry that I don't know the area well and wanted directions on a street that I'm not familiar with! Le Labo treated me VERY well. I'll be buying from them. I will never step foot in this place again because of how rude this woman was. I see that many other reviews share my concern as they have complained about the same cranky woman! Lovely store with unique, beautifully curated items from around the world. Interaction with the French saleswoman was lovely as well -- she was helpful, informative, and answered my many questions about all the interesting wares in the store. When I eventually settled on a piece to buy as a gift, she spoke extensively about the artist who made it and the history and trajectory of his work. I just thought it was a cool-looking bag, but she helped me understand how special and bespoke the piece actually was. The woman knows her stuff and has excellent taste. read more

Horrible staff. The woman working was extremely rude, she has ginger/red hair with glasses. A sample had broke and she made my friend buy it... it was a sample candle. If it was product that was actually being sold I would understand why she would make someone buy it. But it was a sample, I have worked at many retail spots and that is just horrible customer service. Definitely wouldn't recommend coming here. She was snarky and rude and continued to talk rudely to us as we left. Get a new employee. read more

One star for Bazar- My friends and I went in because we were intrigued by the window displays. The store has many beautiful, albeit overpriced, items however the customer service was lacking. Significantly so. And after reading through the other reviews, it seems as though customers had similar experiences. I came in to browse but came across these beautiful brushes. I have been searching for a suit brush for the last 3 weeks but I wanted one that was 1) handmade 2) made of boars hair 3) I also preferred one that was made in England or the Continent but would be okay with something from Japan. The brushes looked like they fit the bill: They were expensive, about 175 dollars...which suggests that they were what I want. Nothing handmade with boar bristles come cheap. I asked the French shop woman. She was new. She didn't know. That is fine--we have all been new--but the woman was not so intent upon answering my question or finding out. She kept on asking me "where are you from." I told her I was from LA. "No where are you really from?" I told her I grew up in Westwood. "But your face. Your face is not from here." All the while, she said this with her thick French accent. I finally told her that I did not want to continue this conversation, thanked her, and walked out. To the MANAGEMENT OF BAZAR: I was ready to buy this brush. I don't understand why I was subjected to this interrogation. I don't understand why the woman insisted on pursuing this conversation when I was asking her ABOUT THE PROVENANCE AND MATERIALITY of the item. You should train your salesperson to understand that this kind of intercourse--one that is occurring at the point of sale--is superfluous. It sabotaged the closing of the sale. And for your clientelle, many of whom are well-heeled highly educated people of Asian ancestry, it can be offensive. I am not so much offended by the fact that the question was posed initially. I am offended that the question germane to the sale was ignored. But the question that did nothing but fulfill her idle curiosity was the object of our conversation...at the point of sale. The most awful experience ever! This French lady with bangs who either works there or is the owner was so disgustingly rude and aggressive! I was and am in total shock! Never have I ever been treated so badly in a store in all my life!!!! I was interested in a hat and asked her who the designer was since the label had been cut out. She refused to answer me, couldn't give me a straight answer caused a scene and yelled at me as I walked out of her store. She was the most disagreeable person I have ever met. She did this all in front of other customers and my 4 children. NEVER EVER SHOP IN THIS STORE. EVER!!!! and FYI removing the designers labels from items in the store is against the law!!!! read more

I have never left an one star yelp review anywhere until now. I was checking out couple of vintage mister freedom clothes. I had been here before and I had returned to check out and try on some clothes. I could definitely say that the sales person was cutting me off on all the questions, pretty much felt like they wanted me out of the store. Maybe it looked as if I wasn't purchasing something or maybe my time was not worth it. I had tried on a shirt but asked kindly if i could take a picture of the mirror of myself wearing the shirt to show my friends, and they told me photography was not allowed. Very strict store and just terrible vibe to shop in. I was hoping to find some pieces to take home that day but I definitely won't be returning to this store. One of the most terrible experience shopping and make sure you look like you are for sure buying something... if not they will want you out asap!!! read more

I want to refrain from saying the horrendous things I want to say about this place but I'm so offended I can't. The women working here last Saturday were so unbelievably rude and pretentious. They were literally watching us like we were going to steal their essential oil testers... that or we tried too many? Sorry we weren't dressed in our finest Sunday garnets. Whatever their deal was, MY SINCEREST APOLOGIES but seriously who do you think you are? Get off your high horse. On top of that I asked for a vendor/ artist application and stepped too close to the side of the counter and the woman behind the counter acted like I was going to rob her register. I love this store on Abbot Kinney. I live in LA and my friend from London came last summer and bought a perfume here. When my friend asked me this year if I could bring another one back for her I went into Bazar to pick one up, but they were out of stock. The sales lady (I forget her name) took my details and called me the next day to tell me she was getting one in especially for me. She then called me when it arrived. This was above and beyond customer service and not what you would usually expect from a retail store. I was so impressed. My friend from London was so happy when I brought some back for her. I stepped in here this weekend with my husband. The shop is amazing - gorgeous and unique treasures everywhere. The young woman who worked here was gracious and knowledgeable. I didn't feel like spending $150 on one candle so I didn't purchase anything but they have many fabulous things inside here and I have a feeling I'll be back soon. read more

Mix of vintage and new artisan craft gift items, American workwear, and tableware, but the service (as with some small boutiques) is off and not welcoming. I was browsing the tableware, just killing time before my reservations at Gjelina when the saleswoman said "Do you have any questions... for me?" in an aggressive tone. I said no, just browsing. I then got a few text messages and when I pulled out my phone the two salespeople yelled from across the room "No photos!" I stated that I was checking my messages and that I know how to behave in a retail store, which seemed to calm them down. I have shopped at New High Mart and other weird small stores that are super paranoid about people taking pictures inside their store. As a worldly shopaholic I know better than to take pics. But it is also SUCH a turn-off when shop owners think they're the first people who have "discovered" certain products or aesthetics. These kind of shops are the last places I would ever drop my $$$. Anyway, I was not in there to copy their store design or product lines, and was shocked that I was so rudely accosted. Will not return and or encourage anyone to visit, since there are better home wares at Tortoise, Chariots On Fire and General Store nearby. The two Asian women in the store need to learn basic social skills if they want to survive. We have too many cute and friendly places to shop online and in real life these days than to put with this kind of retail hostility. read more

Super obnoxious about drinks -- I had a coffee with a lid and the cashier bitched at me to leave it at the front. Seriously? Scolding your customers is not a great retail strategy, especially when you have a ton of competitors selling similar overpriced tchotchkes up and down the street (and none of THEM made me feel unwelcome)! read more

BEWARE! This store will have you paying MUCH more for your vintage finds than you should! My husband and I were looking at a vintage stool, --the asking price was $750.00--we asked if the price was correct (as it was more than $200.00 MORE than what we had seen for the same stool on Ebay) THEN walked down the street to a REAL vintage shop, where the man running it actually knows something about his pieces and does the restoration himself, and BOUGHT the SAME stool, but in slightly better condition for $300.00!! The woman who states she owns the store is a poseur--not a true connoisseur of vintage industrial items--AND she is rude to boot--Can't imagine why anyone would shop here. I asked what she knew about another stool, and she stated that it was very early probably from the 1800's, (I didn't agree) and when i turned it upside down it was clearly marked 1914. Do your research--the owner is an artiste alright--a rip-off artiste. read more

I bought a ring with two small stones in it from Bazar yesterday afternoon around 2pm, and took a red-eye home last night and one of the stones had fallen off by the time I had woken up and got off the flight. It's not like this was some old vintage ring, they had several of them in different metals. I would return it but I live in NYC and now I'm stuck with this piece of crap. read more

It's true Bazaar does carry some beautiful and unique products however I would be hard pressed to shop there in the future. I lived in the neighborhood and was doing early Holiday shopping for business gifts. I bought a number of items but decided one gift was not quite right so I went back the next day. The owner who there initially was away and I explained my situation to the salesman. He said that all sales were final. I must say I was taken aback. I told him I would be happy to exchange it for something else and he said no that wasn't possible. I asked if he could check with the owner and he said she wasn't available. I was not a happy customer. So Liz D you are right about the inventory but no amount of gorgeous trumps very poor customer service and what's with having to ask the price of every item in the store? Nothing is priced. I guess they take the stand ...if you have to ask ....you can't afford it! What a shame. Their behavior doesn't become them! read more

While visiting L.A. I had admired a pair of earrings one of my lunch companions was wearing. They were unlike any I had seen and being someone who loved accessories that were unique and not so trendy...I had to have a pair. We headed out to Venice that evening and arrived at 6 pm only to find 80% of the shops on Abbott Kinney were already closed. Strange. Anyway I saw someone inside Bazar and waved. The gentleman kindly told me they were closed. I told him I was visiting from Miami and the story about the earrings and shockingly, he let me come inside. In addition to the earrings I was seeking I fell in love with this thoughtfully curated shop. I found a treasure trove of beautiful paper goods, leather goods and one of a kind gifts. In short I would describe it as a mini ABC Carpet & Home in Manhattan, which is a favorite destination. I left with an armful goodies! The gracious owner and salesperson were such a joy to do business with. I will return on my next trip to Venice Beach for sure! read more

One of the rudest store owners ever. Followed my like I was going to break something and made me feel unwanted and awkward.

I visited Bazar yesterday with some girlfriends visiting from out of town. The items were waaaay overpriced for the quality and when I made a remark to the owner about the items she became very rude and defensive and proceeded to tell me I lack "retail etiquette" whatever that means. We left the store and headed down the street to some more friendlier stores who welcomed my "retail etiquette" and we happily made some wonderful purchases. Unless you want to be insulted I'd avoid this store like the plague. read more

i bought a vintage christian dior bracelet at bazar yesterday. by NO MEANS am i a person who knows about vintage jewelry! i may have overpaid, but i would have paid more. i love the bracelet, and someone else spent the hours searching through vintage shops to find something great :) i thought the lady overseeing the shop was perfectly helpful. i scanned the store without her pestering me, and when i lingered by the jewelry case, she promptly offered to open it. i rarely write reviews, but i have enjoyed my bracelet so much today, i thought i would share the love :) read more
