So, our Mom is at The Bristal in West Babylon, she's been there going on 5 years or so. First…read morethings first, DO NOT bring your parents to The Bristal, they will woo you with all the bells and whistles to get you in there. Once you're in, they sink their teeth so far into you that you can hardly breath. For $150k a year, keep your parents in their home, hire two aids and save your Mom/Dad some money and yourself the heartache of knowing The Bristal doesn't treat your family like their family. My Mom is not happy there, but she is a positive Polly, so every day she puts on her happy face and goes about her business. Second, hope to God that there is not a staff change for the nurse that is doling out the medications. Because the stand ins have NO idea what they are doing or who gets what medicine. You would think that a place like The Bristal would have a chart on every single resident (dietary needs, medications, habits, preferences, etc...) so that when a new or substitute hire comes in, they can continue the flow that the residents are used to without causing disruption to the residents' routine. Let me also say, that if they do in fact have charts like these, they should teach the aids how to read them. Then of course there is the pricing! It is absolutely OUT OF CONTROL and there is no negotiating with these people. If your parent walks in there on their own and happens to slip or fall, forget it. You'd better mortgage your home so that you can pay for the "service care increase" they are going to drop on you. On top of that, they just sent out increase notices that take effect in January 2025. It's about a $40 a day increase depending on your parents' service needs. Not bad right?! Well, you have to multiply that by 30 days and then by 12 months. So, basically, you're paying an additional $29,000 a day for them to do and in some cases to not do the same thing. The food isn't going to get better, the aides aren't going to be more compassionate, the wrong medications will still be handed out, and so on and so on. The sad part is that the aides (three of whom I can attest are very caring and most others who could care less) are probably not going to see a dime of this money, but guaranteed administrators are getting bonuses. My sister and I were completely glossed over at our first and second visits. Well, with how Mom was going to be treated and how she would absolutely love it. They would keep her busy, they would bathe her and treat her just like family. And then, the administration (all of them) and the aides (not all of them) showed their true colors. My Mom is just another number to them. There is no compassion from the administrative department there AT ALL! As for the aides, those that do care are far and few in between. The thing is that The Bristal is all about making money, nothing more, nothing less. If my mom had a quarter of the money, she actually has available, they would not have even looked at her. The honest truth is that the staff at West Babylon and the corporate leaders know that many adult children cannot or don't want to care for their aging parents. So they have found a niche where they will start billing you small, then before you know, bam! You are on the ropes, but you don't want to uproot your parent again. My advice, DO NOT bring them to The Bristal in West Babylon, they will woo you with all the bells and whistles to get you in there. Once you're in, they sink their teeth so far into you that you can hardly breath. When you have a concern, they will give you an audience until it starts getting real and then they will end the meeting abruptly. Look, for $150k a year, keep your parents in their home, hire two aids and save your Mom some money and yourself the heartache of knowing The Bristal doesn't treat your family like their family. My Mom is not happy there, but she is a positive Polly, so every day she puts on her happy face and goes about her business. I also noticed that most companies respond to Yelp reviews, especially when they are negative ones. Yet with as many negative comments that have been posted on here, The Bristal staff and administration have no interest in defending themselves, their actions or their staff. The reasoning is not because they don't feel they have to, it's because they can't so they don't. Truthfully, I wish either I or my sister could take care of our Mom, at $150k+ a year, we are both working ourselves to the bone to make sure Mom is comfortable and that this greedy, bloodsucking, money hungry corporation gets its money. With the executive director of each facility being paid around $135k a year, plus bonuses, someone has to pay for that.

It's been a few years since my last review so it's time for an update. My Aunt decided to live at…read morethe Bristal many years ago. She's actually one of the original residents. Since that time a few employees have come and gone but the quality of care remains at a high level. She's happy and well taken care of which are most important to me. My interactions with the staff are always well received. I feel they all take the time to meet with me when needed and they are very responsive to my Aunt's needs. The Bristal at West Babylon is clean, bright and inviting and I always enjoy my visits. Special shout-outs to Natasha who does a great job of steering the ship. Lorilynn and her staff who are always so helpful with my Aunt's healthcare needs. Christine and Angelina both of whom are a great help with anything and everything. And Carol, Shyanne and Albert who all make our lives at The Bristal a little easier. Thank you all for caring, Vinnie
