In virtually every suburb, you have a miniature "CBD" - busy, loads of shop, and architecturally beautiful. Acland Street in St Kilda. Bridge Road in Richmond. High Street in Northcote. But out of all the iconic busy streets that Melbourne has to offer, I do have to say that Chapel Street is high up the list for me. No matter what time of day or night it is, there will always be somewhere to eat, somewhere to party, and something to do. There's nothing better than a walk along Chapel Street with no real idea of where you're going but a faith that you'll stumble upon a place you end up really enjoying. Visiting Melbourne? Put this spot on your list for sure. Seriously - check out Chapel Street's very own website to see upcoming events as well as nightlife favourites. A must-go.

But to be honest, I have been inside a million and one times and never walked out with anything. You know how when you drop in to your favourite shop and they have a sale rack and although everything looked pretty a week ago, when it's on that rack it looks a little sad? That's what this whole store is... Everything looks just a little bit sad. I get that it is a clearance centre, but high-price label designers in a bargain store? It just doesn't sit well... Plus, nothing is really that cheap? Unless you consider $85 for a satin singlet cheap. My favourite section of the entire store is the 'damaged' section, where you can usually find the really good, new stuff, but perhaps a button is missing. If you are in this store, head to that rack, everything else might make you cry.

Once you've been here, you'll wonder why you ever shopped full price! Check out the massive range of samples and out of season fashion from leading brands such as Alannah Hill, Friends of Couture, Gorman, Princess Highway, Dangerfield and Black Friday. Depending on what you're looking for, you can pick up super cheap t-shirts, glamorous dresses ($50 and up) and a truck full of blouses, day dresses, jackets, scarves and hats. It's the bargain hunters dream come true - but remember it's a warehouse store, not a boutique - so you really have to look carefully and dig deep. I'd give yourself at least an hour depending how much you want to spend. The best thing about this place is, you're free to roam about without pesky sales staff following you around.

The Oroton warehouse is a great place to shop for gift ideas. They have some of the latest stock that only just goes on sale and some times they have massive savings like 50% already reduced prices. You have the potential to pick up some great leather goods for less than half the price. I would recommend this store to anyone who is looking for a bargain but doesn't want to deal with the massive crowds and cant be bothered circling a car-park for a spot. This place seems almost undiscovered.

BrandSmart offers a good range of brands including esprit, footlocker, oroton, bendon, laura Ashley, poltix, sheridon and royal doulton-just to name a few. This is a good place to come if you just want some personal alone time, to wonder around and shop aimlessly. There's no sense of rush or excitement here, just a relaxing place where you might find a few good bargains along the way. There are over 400 free car spaces here, which make it all the more stress free.

Possibly the biggest op-shop I've seen in my entire life, it's large enough to have its own carpark. Staffed by lovely old dears who were wonderful to my grandmother when I took her for a visit (she's an op-shop junkie, no kidding, I don't think I've been in so many than the week she came to stay with me), if you're after something to put in your new home that you paid actual money for and didn't find on the side of the road than this is the place to go. Be warned, you need to plan ahead to have some way of taking it home with you. That is all.

As a bigger girl, I do not recommend. The staff weren't rude to me, but I felt a bit of that 'what are you doing in here' vibe. I will say the lingerie they have is very very nice. And it would want to be for the price. Some of the garments cost more than I would spend on my groceries for a month! Basically, if you are smaller than a size 12 with lots of money to throw around, this might just be heaven for you. If your not, well, avoid.
