My mother resided here for a total of 4 months before her very tragic and unexplained passing. She…read morewas very young with a very aggressive form of dementia. My siblings and i were out of options for caring for her at home and laurel bay advertises themselves as specializing in memory care . From our experience this is very untrue . She was put on and off several psych medications that took away any bit of her that was left. There were a handful of CNAs that really did give our mother the level of care we had hoped for but that was where it ended. We were called and informed that she had a fever and was being brought to the hospital , when I arrived she couldn't even lift her head or speak to me no one could give me answers they said she arrived that way . We were seeing my mom every week up until two weeks prior to this fever bc we had a brand new baby in the family and couldn't make it there . So what transpired in those two weeks that we didn't see her we will never really know . She quickly declined in the hospital she had clots in both lungs from what we were told was from her being so immobile . This was the same woman who 1 month ago could not be still , she paced from the anxiety and when she was calm was dancing all over . She passed away two weeks after being admitted to the hospital. She didn't have much for belongings , some pictures ( there were several lost within her first month there during a room change ) and her wedding band . In trying to track down her wedding ring which prior to entering laurel bay she had NEVER taken off , EVER i was told that it was found on the floor by one worker who gave it to another worker who placed it on the nurses cart. From there it disappeared. No trace of it . I filed a police report with no success. The only piece of her marriage , of her life before her disease, her 42 year marriage . GONE. To add salt to the wound as we were mourning our mother on our first Xmas without her we received a call on CHRISTMAS EVE from the billing department asking to collect a fee of 300$ that was owed from her stay !!!!!!! No condolences , just looking to collect . While a little lengthy in description this was our experience in laurel bay for the very brief time our mother was there, Putting mom into a nursing home truly was a last resort for us , we thought it was the right thing for her , we tried to care for her so long on our own and we thought they could provide her with what we couldn't. There is no doubt in my mind our mother would've Alive today If we had kept her home for longer .

How I was tricked into thinking this was a 5 star establishment. Don't know where the high ratings…read moreare coming from. I'll start by saying SOME of the staff were very nice but it almost felt manipulative in that it was to keep you from complaining. They are indeed understaffed. The care my father got was not great. He was never clean and spent a lot of time in hospital gowns instead of his own clothes for some reason. They told us laundry was done everyday and he had a week worth of clothes. His teeth were never brushed and he was wet a lot of the time. The PT was BS. They do minimal to keep you there as long as possible. He spent most of his days pinned against a table in front of a giant screen tv with nothing else on the table. His wheel chair should have been in the dumpster years ago. Disgusting and was missing one arm rest. My dad has severe dementia so I'm assuming they gave the bad equipment to those who couldn't complain. His food was left on his tray if he was sleeping and it was never actually given to him unless we showed up and fed him. Although it was a battle we finally got him out of there. Whats scary is I heard this place was one of the better ones. Our healthcare system is broken beyond belief!

I visit a patient who is a resident there every week and they are not treated well at all. They are under staffed and the ones that work there are overwhelmed. My Mom was sent here for almost 3 months to gain her strength back after having a minor Heart…read moreAttack and not being able to stand or walk. The place was Clean and the staff was friendly. My complaints are the Food, definitely unpleasant and totally unappealing. They say it's Kosher but everything looked like it came from a can and had no taste ( Yes, I even tried it ). The Staff did their best to help my Mom with her rehabilitation and daily Hygiene but there was definitely not enough of them! NO Doctor ever came to personally visit my Mom the entire time she was there, instead it was left to a RN or if needed a PA when requested. My Mom was constantly suffering from severe UTI infections which was not always diagnosed. Instead they said she suffers from depression, possible dementia, delusion! The Social Worker at Anchor Care never calls back, the Staff never calls you back, including the PA , you definitely need to be an Advocate for your loved one there! Unfortunately, my Mom was suffering from mini Strokes not dementia or delirium and after talking to her for 30 mins on her Cell Phone and hanging ip with her, she was found slumped over in her Wheelchair having suffered from an Acute Stroke! We have NO idea how long it had been before she was found! My Mom was rushed by Ambulance to Jersey Shore Medical Center and received the most AMAZING Care for her duration there! Unfortunately, she passed away days later in the Hospital never having recovered ! Anyone going to Anchor Care should know, be or have an Advocate for your loved one and question and demand things that are not right! Have a possible plan to accommodate their appetite and hunger as the food there is unappetizing and not appealing. The Staff is good but limited, make favor with those who help your loved one on a daily basis and Thank them for their support, it goes a long way! The place is definitely Clean and more modern then some, but not great in there Medical follow up or returning calls! Rest in Peace Mom, I honored your request!

The institution claims that he saw a Dr. the first day but only one other time the last day before we took him home. He lost about 20 lbs in this period from refusing to eat the food and getting depressed. There is only one shower forall the patients on the 3rd floor and his surgical incision was supposed to be showered daily. There was no recourse to air our grievances. The Social Worker was hard to reach and not available to help us out. As his wife, I was constantly frustrated by the lack of oversight. I feel that the facility is highly understaffed and overworked. There was no way to reach the patients except by cellphone before 9 AM and after 5 PM. When I spoke to the Management they spouted their great 5 star reviews. But when I finally went to Yelp the reviews were horrendous. I see that they only got 1 1/2 stars. In terms of rehab - in the "gym" people were in wheelchairs heads bent - very sad to see. At least my husband did get a half hour of PT but no communication with family as to progress, etc. As I was leaving one day after my daily oversight visits a patient yelled out to me "WELCOME TO THE PRISON."
