But this last time for some reason I paid close attention to the service that was provided and felt compelled to write a review for others to know. The lady who took my order was downright NICE, accommodating, gave recommendations, expressed patience when I pressed the credit card buttons too fast, clarified my order with me to ensure I got what I needed and then reminded me when I walked away that my order came with a drink so she made sure I walked out with drink in hand. All this while providing on the job cashier training to a young lady. She displayed efficiency in taking my order, packing my food and competency in providing customer service. My experience was beyond what I expected from this wing spot at a gas station. Never judge a book by its cover. I wanted to call out my experience because it's rare on this island sometimes so I will highly recommend Chef John's Wingz Gone Wild to others AND I will offer my highest complement by patronizing this establishment again and again!

It was our first night on the island and we were just looking for some good grub and a place to hang for the night. Luckily, this local joint was still open! Though the experience driving to the location felt kind of sketchy (junk yard right outside, some homes looked abandoned around the neighborhood, parking was on a grass patch with a fancy porta-potty behind it, just one guy hanging out in front of a what looked like a trailer converted into a kitchen), this was either going to be disaster OR bleeping delicious. We were directed to order inside the bar and not outside by the trailer... we said cool and made our way in. Remember when I said sketchy? Well... now picture walking up creeky steps, opening the door, to find a stripper pole in the middle of the room, a pool table to the right, and a bar in the far back right corner with an empty dance floor. The bar was full though and the food smelled delicious outside so I turned a blind eye to everything else and took a chance... not expecting much, we ordered some take out food and then sat and waited for it with a couple drinks. To our surprise, this place was so very legit, to say the very least. We got the salmon crispy bites and bbq chicken wings entrees, both with a side of rice&beans, mac and cheese, and salad. The portion sizes were ridiculous for the price, the fish was so fresh we questioned if it was actually fish, the chicken wings were so crispy even though they were smothered in delectable bbq sauce, and we had enough rice and beans to feed a small army. The bartenders were soooo sweet. The girl took her time and explained to us how things on the island worked and suggested some food and activities after serving us up a drink called "Cruzan Confusion." Well, that drink became the one drink I drank the rest of my trip there! Deliciousness in a cup that can certainly get you confused quite quickly if you don't consume with caution! LOL. Overall, food was 10000000% yes, atmosphere could be less chaotic but it seems like that's how the island operates, service was wonderfully exceptional as well. One star was knocked purely because of the beginning atmosphere... which certainly changed when we gave it a chance. Definitely give this place a try!

INTRODUCING TACO 'BOUT IT…read more Walking down Strand Street Christiansted town to get to Crucian Gold and noticed this new establishment opened across the way . Taco 'Bout It is St. Croix's newest taco spot. But it leans more into being a gourmet taco restaurant. Although there are other items on their menu, it's their tacos that are the highlights. Their interior is huge and has plenty of group seating available and is also partitioned into 2 sections. There is also patio seating outside that is covered and there's additional seating at the bar. Speaking of bar, they have a full bar that includes most cocktails, wines, some beer and they even have mamajuana. I ordered their guava bbq chicken wings, along with some lemon pepper to test. The lemon pepper was OK, but lacked a true lemon zing pop. The guava flavor was pretty delicious and easily addictive. Unfortunately, the size of the wings were small and not worth the dollar price. When I mentioned this to management, they explained that their regular wings ran out and these were substitute wings from another distributor. The next batch will be the bigger variety from their main distributor. This was a relief to hear! I ended up ordering the taco platter to sample 4 taco flavors for $20 (basically $5 each). They have flavors like Cubano, Spiced Pork, Burger, Brisket, Philly Cheesesteak, Chipotle BBQ Pork and then some Veggie options including the Rasta Chicken, Bang Bang Broccoli and Seafood Flavors like Hot Rocks and Fish & Chips. The Cubano was legit and had good flavor, the Rasta Chicken was seasoned well, the Fish & Chips was crispy & super-flavorful and the Hot Rocks was my favorite with the shrimp in it. I understand that they've just opened and they're working out the kinks in some of the menu, but I looks forward to seeing more from them. Overall, this is a great spot for taco fanatics who want to try something different and unique.

The mac and cheese was really creamy and delicious. And the chicken wings were so well seasoned that our entire party devoured them in seconds. Our server, David, came and greeted us a few minutes after we were seated, told us about the specials, and provided us with menus. Our table was a bit sticky so we mentioned it to the David who informed us that there was some sort of issue with the finishing on our table as well as some of the other tables in the dining area. I was a little surprised that these tables had that type of issue and were still being used by customers in the dining area. my nephew visited this restaurant a few times before. He was excited for me to try a drink that he ordered last time he visited, TAMARIND OLD FASHIONED, so we both ordered one. The drink was not as my nephew remembered it; he said he could actually taste the tamarind and it was a really good drink. What we received tonight, was mixed differently. It tasted like angostura bitters and a ton of alcohol. It was very strong and neither of us could taste the tamarind flavor in it. I mentioned it to David, and he had the bartender add some more tamarind syrup and ice to the mixture. When he brought it back, it was OK but still not tasting as my nephew experienced it the last time he was there. We ordered appetizers and main courses. My nephew thoroughly enjoyed the beef appetizer special. I ordered the bay scallops appetizer special. The scallops were cooked well but I wasn't too crazy about the sauce. I ordered one of the entrée specials for tonight, the little neck clams with linguine. I've ordered a similar dish at other restaurants before so I typically enjoy it. The al dente style of the linguine was perfect but the entire dish was way too salty. The linguine was salty and the clams were salty. It also had too much butter. I mentioned to David to let the chef know that the dish was too salty. He said OK and left. My nephew's meal was OK. He liked the salmon special that he ordered but contemplated asking for the salmon to be cooked a little bit more well done. He opted to not do that and instead take it home and prepare it the way he likes it. He ordered a side of macaroni and cheese as well but didn't like it too much so also decided to take that home to add his favorite seasonings. Based on my experience at the restaurant tonight, I am rating this visit as a 3. The food did not stand out. The dishes, particularly my dishes, could have used some improvements: however, the scenery is absolutely beautiful.
