As usual on a Sunday my youngest stopped by and helped with a few things around the house. He was of course hungry. Since I'm new to Florida just having moved here June 1st, I am always looking for a new place so here we are. For appetizers he ordered the Bam Bam Shrimp and I ordered the Gator Bites. We both ordered the fish sandwich we cheese. They had a home brew called Escape which is nothing to write about so it won't affect my review. Our waitress was nice and very on the ball. She made suggestions but was not pushy. All in all I liked her. Now this isn't a fancy establishment and the seating is outside. It is comfortable and welcoming. You could be put off if you just drive by. Here is a picture of the outside. There is rock music playing on the background but not so loud that you can't talk. It gives off a neighborhood bar vibe because you can tell the regulars right away. Not saying it is bad just my observation. Our appetizers came out. I really liked the shrimp. The lettuce with the gator bites was not needed. We could not distinguish the gator from the port. Decided to switch to a Guinness because the Escape was not doing it for me. Once again not saying it is bad just not for me. For my followers in the DMV (DC,MD, VA) Florida is a different feel. It is more laid back and people drive around in golf carts. You read that correctly. The sandwich was tasty but always get the chipotle mayo. Otherwise it is just plain fish. Overall I would rate this place 3.8 stars. read more

I first noticed this place when I passed by it on the water. Then a local friend told me that the food is really good here so we decided to give it a try. This place is at the end of the Sponge Dock and beyond. The average tourists will reach Rusty Bellies, walk a bit further, see all the crates and trucks and forklifts and turn back. Only the locals or the ones in the know will continue to venture on to this little eatery. As you can imagine, food has to be pretty good for it to survive. Whatever image the word Bistro brings up in your mind is likely off, as this place feels more like a shack. The kitchen is in a food truck. There is an indoors bar area and then some tables on the dock. For such a small place, menu is surprisingly extensive. Given the location we decided to go with seafood and it does not disappoint. They get their daily fresh catches from a few doors down at Lockhart, which is where we buy our own. Lobster roll is delicious - the bread could be softer and more buttery, but overall flavor is really good. It was a hot day but we eagerly consumed our clam chowder. Everything is just so good that we can't wait to be back. read more

This is a small seafood shack with friendly staff located right next to the boats bringing in fresh fish. Even though it seems like a local hangout, it is nestled in an area very heavily marketed to tourists and almost no parking. I was excited for the fish tacos featuring fresh mahi mahi, however was very disappointed when they came out covered in shredded cheese, which has no business being anywhere near fish (especially fresh). I expressed my concern to the bar staff and they did not seem to care. read more

Our favorite go to for a laid back meal with locals. When we have guests we always have to stop in for a delicious selection of various apps, sandwiches, or entree's. Did I mention the have drinks and beer on tap also? Tom is a great guy and from the 1st day in he has made us feel very warm and welcome. Thanks Tom! Went at 5pm on a weekday. It was seat yourself. We sat on the back patio where there were already other people seated. It took 20 minutes for someone to come ask if we wanted drinks. It took her 10 minutes to bring us water and we put in our food order at that time. We waited over 30 minutes to get our food which we saw sitting under a heat lamp for more than half that time. Food was not that good. I could have gotten a fish sandwich from McDonalds for better. As we were sitting there we also watched/heard about wrong food go to the wrong tables... everyone was complaining. read more

My wife and I had lunch at Bayou Bistro a few days ago and absolutely loved it! It's a great local spot with a lot of charm located right on the bay. The views were amazing and it has a cool fishing village feel with all the boats around. The service was spot on and the food was excellent. We started with the Dang Dang shrimp, which was nice and crispy. The sauce was the perfect flavor of sweet and spicy. Definitely one of the better recipes compared to others in the area. I had their special, the Blacktail fish sandwich with homemade chips. It was superb, the fish was cooked to perfection and the chips were nice and crispy. We were in the mood for a good lobster roll tonight so we looked on Yelp to see what was around that we haven't tried. Up popped the Bayou Bistro so we figured we would give it a try. What a surprise! It's kind of hidden away and eating in the rough, but worth searching it out. It was a very good sized roll and I should have taken some pictures, but we were too quick to gobble them down. They were packed with fresh lobster! Available the standard way with mayo or with hot melted butter. You won't be disappointed! Overlooking the back side of the bayou, we were waited on by Brandy! She was wonderful and took great care of us! A secret, her birthday is this weekend. You have to give this place a try. We will be back soon! read more

Bayou Bistro has been in operation approximately 1.5 years. Prior to it, this husband & wife duo owned a cafe in Dunedin. Heather is a native of New Hampshire while Tom hails from Boston. Although he attended culinary school, much of his training originates from his time residing (& cooking) in the Caribbean. And can he ever cook! All of the sauces & dressings are made on site, as well as the Sunday Brunch jams. (The tarter sauce is a Boston recipe-- it's excellent!) My Grouper Bites (which I asked to have lightly blackened) were DELICIOUS! They were fresh & moist. ALL the seafood used in Tom's creations hail from a building (& docks) three doors down on the water-- Lockhart's Fish & Stone Crab Market. You won't find Tom's kitchen in the usual place; rather, you'll find Chef Tom cooking in the food truck located just off to the side of the bar-- see pic. Closed on Mondays, this restaurant is open Tuesday thru Saturday 11 AM till 9 PM, & 9 AM till 8 PM on Sundays. There are a wide variety of seating options-- SEE PICS. I chose to sit & the beautiful, wooden V-shaped bar while a celebrating couple were seated beside the water. There's approximately four wall televisions for those interested in watching sports. I may not drink, but I did notice the BAR OFFERINGS: 14 Beers in Bottles & Cans; 6 Drafts; Domestic & Imported Buckets of Beer; 9 Pitchers; 8 Wines; Vodka; Rum; Tequila; Triple Sec; Seltzers & Cidar; 3 Sangrias; Champagne; & 5 Speciality Drinks that include a Homemade Bloody Mary & "Bayou Rita" w/ a choice of Corona or Pinot Noir. Upon reading the other yelp reviews I genuinely had to check to make sure I had the right place before writing mine. I don't know if they were having a bad day but this is genuinely one of the top five worst dining experiences I have ever had. We were able to get a seat fairly easily and the male bartender was initially quick to approach us and offer us some drinks. He was quick to return with menus, silverware and our drinks. After that everything went downhill. After about 15 minutes we finally waved down the same guy to say we were ready to order and he took our order and left. Half an hour later, we were obviously trying to get a server's attention and someone only came over when we beckoned them. He said "sorry about the wait we're busy and he's backed up in the kitchen". Fair enough, but after 30 minutes we should not be the ones having to wave you down, you should update guests. On top of this we counted at least 4 people working and less than 40 people in the restaurant. I understand my standards are high being in hospitality in Vegas, but they were not at capacity. When the food finally arrived nearly an hour later (I wish I was exaggerating) we were very underwhelmed by what it looked like. We asked the younger female server for some condiments and she said "no problem". She never came back so I got up and got them from the bar myself. The potatoes had a bit of seasoning but there was no seasoning on the rest of the food. The lobster omelette was so bland we both barely touched it. To top it off, my roommate found pieces of shell in hers! There was also no hollandaise sauce as listed on the menu. At this point we just wanted to leave and I honestly feel like we shouldn't have paid for this 'food' at all but I'm not the kind of person to walk out on a check. We waved down the same girl who brought out our food and asked for the check, to which she replied "oh do you want me to do that for you?"...well yes that's why I asked. Alas, she never showed up with a check and at that point my roommate, who is normally very patient, went up to the bar and just asked the guy for our check. They also only took military discount off one of the bills but again I didn't want to waste anymore time at this place so just paid it. So disappointed as my coworker recommended this place. An experience like this can't be amended and with so many great restaurants close by there's no reason to pick this one. read more

We are in Tarpon Springs and as soon as we arrived, our husbands went to shit onto the golf course. We were hungry and decided to go to the closest restaurant. We were thrilled. However, it's an outdoor place and the weather was so hot. We ordered shrimp. That was absolutely delicious. The waitress was lovely and talk to us about the history of the area. We really wanted to like this hole in the wall place right on the water where you can dock your boat, watch fisherman coming off boats and enjoy a summer afternoon. The server, Anastasia, was initially attentive and responsive but the longer we were there the more we were ignored, food orders were not right and when we got the bill, we never received the itemized version. Situated on a boat dock for fishing tours this creative place is an outdoor bar and eatery where their food comes from the Bayou Bistro food truck. But don't let that fool you. The food coming out of this truck taste better and more fresh than many well established places. BIG shout out to Tara A.K.A. "Tree of Life" who was our waitress who teated us like celebrities. She wore these beautiful earrings that had an artistic "Tree of Life" planted on a shimmering mother of pearl surface.
