It's got all the grocery departments, deli, bakery, fresh meats, produce, frozen, canned goods, paper goods. No Boars Head at the deli, though, alas, and no really high quality imported cheeses (unless I missed them, but I will be back to report). In keeping with the shop-small concept I even noticed a good percentage of small independent brands for sale here, too. I believe I've been at Groceryland three times; it's a wee bit far from home but I keep it in the supermarket rotation as I carefully plan my shopping trips. Plenty of inventory and no issues with out of date items. Nice big parking lot, and it's just across the side street from the Throttle Bar, so you could drop off the Mister there and meet him afterwards. Of course there are no required "cards" so if something's on sale, it's on sale, and you don't have to present a piece of plastic or give your phone number so that your shopping habits can be recorded. That's a plus. In spite of the overall relatively high prices, there are enough positives to stay at four stars. In fact the only reason it's not at five is there is still a degree of 'covid' theatrics going on and that displeases me. I'm in high hopes that'll be gone by my next visit, and unless something goes very wrong I'm sure that extra star will shine.

I took one package of sub rolls and asked the manager if this was the he knew what color tag the bread delivered the day before (sat) was and he did not know.I asked if he knew that some bread on the shelf was there more than five days.He said that it was not his job to check the the bread. I think I said that it should be because you are selling old bread. .we exchanged some words and he told me that if I did not like the bread that I was to go some place else and to put the basket down and leave the store. I asked if I could at least buy what I had in the basket and he refused and told me again to leave. I could not believe it all I wanted to do was to buy what i had. He again told me to go outside There is more to this but I will leave it alone. I consider it very unprofessional conduct and left the store.

So imagine my disappointment when last October I went hunting for an apple orchard in the greater Cincinnati area only to discover every single one had sold out of u-pick apples by the end of the first weekend of the month. Um, what?! So this year I was determined to get my apple picking in, even if that meant going in the second week of September. Which I did, right here at Monnin Fruit Farm. This place is out in the country as it should be and has a great variety of apples to choose from. When we went, the honey crisp were already nearly gone, but they'd just opened up the winesap rows. We got some of everything, from Fuji to golden delicious to macintosh. You buy by the half bushel or the bushel; prices aren't posted but this year the half bushel is $20. Cash or check only! Be sure to check out the store as well. On our way out we grabbed a dozen free range eggs, some apple butter and a bag of toffee. They've also got local milk, meat products and other produce. Monnin gets high marks for 1) actually having apples, 2) posting u-pick information on Facebook, 3) their awesome store and 4) knowledgeable staff. Minus one star for a confusing map/flag system for identifying apple varieties, and only two sizes for buying apples. Didn't really need a whole half bushel but you can bet I filled that bag! Would be nice to pay by weight or have a smaller size. Overall, this place scratched my apple-picking itch. Great way to kick off fall. Now, who's ready for apple pie?
