DO NOT MOVE HERE.. our # 1 mistake was thinking because its Clark,NJ the apartments would be well…read moreup kept inside and out. WRONGx100! We moved in Sept. and have yet to see maintenance for our dishwasher that we have been calling about since Sept. We had no power in our living for 4 days before they came to ultimately DESTROY our living room and left debris everywhere! Walls are paper thin & you hear arguments and loud rap music pretty much regularly. Our heat stopped working mid winter and took maintenance again forever to fix and there solution was " leave it on 90 degrees, it will only feel like 70 anyway". It is pretty much low income housing in a really pretty town. Pay the extra money and go to a nicer development, do not make the mistake we did. Wish I took the poor reviews seriously because they are so true!!

I want to give special thanks to "LEO" at Hillcrest Village Apts. Maintenance!…read more I had a major problem with a clogged bathroom sink (almost overflowing). I called Maintenance Helpline several times for assistance with no positive results. It was a pleasure to meet a skilled Hillcrest Maintenance Pro who was so pleasant, courteous, professional, and thorough. He explained the problem to me (sludge -- and not my hair ) was causing the clog. He also cleaned the work area when completed. There should be more people who take such pride in their work! Thanks so very much "LEO" for "going the extra mile". You are going places with your solid work ethic! Terry

The only reason I gave this place one star is because no stars isn't an option…read more I have lived in some crappy apartments, and would take cockroaches and broken faucets in a heartbeat over the NIGHTMARE that this place is. First of all, they do not maintain anything. They promised me many repairs before I moved in, none of which were completed by my move in date, and none of which have been completed even now, 13 months later. I have not seen or heard from the landlord since he came to turn on my gas the day I moved in. My window is broken, my walls are cracked, and the pipes upstairs knock loudly and seem to be leaking by the watermarks on my ceiling, but no one seems to care. Second, they make you mail in a check for rent each month rather than dropping it off at the office or paying it online, and constantly claim to receive it late, which is amazing. Somehow it takes three weeks for the mail to get from Clark to Caldwell sometimes, other times it mysteriously does not get there at all. I've been robbed of over $300 in late fees. Not only were they unwilling to reduce the charges at all, but while I argued with them about one fee they continued to tack on additional fees each month though my rent was paid on time because my balance "was not paid in full." One particularly great month they lost my check entirely, and did not notify me until the 15th of the month. I paid my rent immediately, and yet still received a notice to go to court for eviction proceedings about two weeks later. After multiple attempts to reach someone at the main office of the leasing company as the girl on-site almost never answers the phone and returns missed calls even less frequently, I was told it was a mistake and not to worry about it. The apartment comes with ridiculous rules, such as the fact that I am not allowed to have more than two people other than myself here at any given time. So, if I want to have my boyfriend and another couple over for dinner, I'm in violation of my lease. My neighbor is an incredible busybody who makes enjoyment of my apartment nearly impossible and has made several noise complaints against me. Sometimes these have been because my boyfriend and I were arguing late at night, others have been completely unfounded, to the point that I live in constant fear of eviction. She constantly has her television at full volume in the middle of the night, which is annoying, but I have never complained because I realize I live in an apartment and hearing your neighbors on occasion is part of the territory. Apparently I'm in the minority in this regard. Another wonderful policy of this complex is that I am not allowed to have guests stay over more than 7 consecutive nights. In my experience most apartment complexes have similar clauses in their lease for legal reasons but in reality mind their business unless it becomes a problem. My boyfriend has been staying over a little more often than usual for several reasons, and this nightmare of a neighbor called the leasing office to see if he was on my lease and complained. The leasing office does not seem to care at all about my side of any of this and I feel completely helpless and unable to enjoy the space that I pay to live in. Thankfully the only good thing about this nightmare of a complex is that the lease becomes month to month after the first year, so I'll be able to move out as soon as I find somewhere new. TL;DR THIS PLACE IS A NIGHTMARE PLEASE STAY AWAY FOR YOUR OWN GOOD

I have lived in the complex for almost two years now and I am very happy with the community. The…read moreresidents are a diverse group of people and are generally friendly and quiet neighbors. The units are very nice and the buildings and properties are well maintained. Although the freight train runs right next to the complex, it is relatively quiet since they only use the train horn about 10% of the time - you still hear the cars on the tracks, but it doesn't surprise you, or shake the pictures on the walls. I actually find it to be soothing. The complex is also a lovely safe place to walk and has a very park like atmosphere with different kinds of trees planted everywhere. I enjoy driving down the main street to my building with the canopy of pretty trees to welcome me home. Parking is not assigned, but we have not had any trouble finding an open space near our unit unless it has snowed. Valerie at the leasing office is extremely sweet and helpful and makes renewing your lease a snap. Service calls are usually addressed within 24 hours. Although I agree with some reviewers that the maintenance people sometimes address the major issue and promise to come back to address a minor issue, but forget about it - an additional phone call is all that is needed to remind them and it is handled. However I have found that phone calls to the maintenance line are more effective than emails on the community website. Despite these minor issues, my family finds this complex to be the almost perfect answer to all of our needs. (I just wish they welcomed pets.)

Complete trash. Don't fall for it like I did!…read more Mold, every type of bug, including cockroaches... they don't fix things properly, and when they fix anything, or answer you, it takes months unless its something serious that would cost them major bucks.. we've had several leaks, with mold. The kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom... our closet door took 9 month to get replaced and another month to get fixed.. there are over 12 cats, I'm very allergic so I couldn't have furniture outside because they just take over..there are so many holes in our place and they wouldn't fix them so we had to spray for bugs ourselves once a month and that didn't even help. I'd get in the shower or come home from work and would have to kill 3 bugs or so. 2 years too many. I'm shocked I never got any kind of rebate considering how rude they were about all my issues. I honestly should go to the board of health and the town about this.. When we FINALLY moved out, they tried to bill me for things like A DOOR. How would I have put up a screen door.. actually why would I have put up a screen door.. don't you think I would've put one in the front as well considering the amount of mosquitos... my door was the only door painted white so the amount of bucks we had was insane. Sometimes it would take 20 minutes to get into the apartment.. yep.. A worker lived in my apartment prior to us.. then it was vacant for months.. they said they had to work on it before hand, the other lady said it was ready.. all lies.. they just didn't take care of it, nor did this worker... I can't even go on with this "review" I would be another 8 pages. Whenever I find more photos I'll post them.
