The only reason I gave this place one star is because no stars isn't an option.
I have lived in some crappy apartments, and would take cockroaches and broken faucets in a heartbeat over the NIGHTMARE that this place is.
First of all, they do not maintain anything. They promised me many repairs before I moved in, none of which were completed by my move in date, and none of which have been completed even now, 13 months later. I have not seen or heard from the landlord since he came to turn on my gas the day I moved in. My window is broken, my walls are cracked, and the pipes upstairs knock loudly and seem to be leaking by the watermarks on my ceiling, but no one seems to care.
Second, they make you mail in a check for rent each month rather than dropping it off at the office or paying it online, and constantly claim to receive it late, which is amazing. Somehow it takes three weeks for the mail to get from Clark to Caldwell sometimes, other times it mysteriously does not get there at all. I've been robbed of over $300 in late fees. Not only were they unwilling to reduce the charges at all, but while I argued with them about one fee they continued to tack on additional fees each month though my rent was paid on time because my balance "was not paid in full." One particularly great month they lost my check entirely, and did not notify me until the 15th of the month. I paid my rent immediately, and yet still received a notice to go to court for eviction proceedings about two weeks later. After multiple attempts to reach someone at the main office of the leasing company as the girl on-site almost never answers the phone and returns missed calls even less frequently, I was told it was a mistake and not to worry about it.
The apartment comes with ridiculous rules, such as the fact that I am not allowed to have more than two people other than myself here at any given time. So, if I want to have my boyfriend and another couple over for dinner, I'm in violation of my lease. My neighbor is an incredible busybody who makes enjoyment of my apartment nearly impossible and has made several noise complaints against me. Sometimes these have been because my boyfriend and I were arguing late at night, others have been completely unfounded, to the point that I live in constant fear of eviction. She constantly has her television at full volume in the middle of the night, which is annoying, but I have never complained because I realize I live in an apartment and hearing your neighbors on occasion is part of the territory. Apparently I'm in the minority in this regard. Another wonderful policy of this complex is that I am not allowed to have guests stay over more than 7 consecutive nights. In my experience most apartment complexes have similar clauses in their lease for legal reasons but in reality mind their business unless it becomes a problem. My boyfriend has been staying over a little more often than usual for several reasons, and this nightmare of a neighbor called the leasing office to see if he was on my lease and complained. The leasing office does not seem to care at all about my side of any of this and I feel completely helpless and unable to enjoy the space that I pay to live in.
Thankfully the only good thing about this nightmare of a complex is that the lease becomes month to month after the first year, so I'll be able to move out as soon as I find somewhere new.
