We received a confirmation the day before our charter from Captain Scott, who told us where to meet, what to bring, and who our Captain would be that day. Luckily the day of our charter it was beautiful. We were going out of the Coquina Beach boat ramp. There appeared to be plenty of parking, a dock, and some rather clean porta potties (hey when you gotta go, you gotta go). Captain Tony was our captain that day and he was ready to go at 8:30am on the button. We grabbed our things, he helped us in, and explained where we'd be going for inner coastal fishing. He explained where everything was on the boat. He also took the time to ask us our names and how old our little guy was. He pointed out that the best seats in the house were the two beanbag chairs at the front of the boat. Both me and my little guy scooped those up, leaving my husband to a regular bench seat (sorry, not sorry). We heated out into the open ocean and my kiddo was just smiling the entire time, enjoying the wind in his face and going fast. We drove for about 10 minutes and Captain Tony landed on a spot. He explained to us how to properly hold the fishing pole, when to cast, how to stop the line, and when to reel the line in. He wanted our little guy to catch the first fish, and no sooner did our kiddo put his pole in the water he caught a fish. He reeled it in and caught a leopard looking grouper (the first fish of the day.....they weren't in season so we got a pic of him with his fish and then set the fish free). My kiddo did it again and again.....caught fish after fish! He even caught a few snappers that were in season that Captain Tony filleted, so we could take them home and cook. Captain Tony showed me and my husband how to fish, my first attempt and I caught a grouper, then another grouper, and another, and a few snappers. We also caught ourselves a black-tailed shark. Captain Tony put him on the boat, and we each got to hold the shark. Not only was he heavy, he had roughest skin (ever heard of lotion?). Captain Tony baited all our lines for us, he was helpful, he really tended to all of us and was just a pleasure to be around. After about 3 hours of fishing, we went to sandbar for the 4th hour, where Capt. Tony could fillet our fishes, and we could swim and explore the island. It was relaxing. This was a really great experience, super kid friendly, and made my kiddo a fishing fanatic! This was a great experience!

Will is the real deal, very knowledgeable of the area, the fish and was a ton of fun to hang out with. We caught our first fish within 10 minutes of getting set up and it was constant action the entire time. He had all live fresh bait, which made a world of difference. Ambiance is clean, fast fishing boat, 28' Contender with 2 seriously powered outboards and a very clean head. ++. Some of us wanted to fish and the rest of us just enjoy being out on the water. We called and reserved few weeks before our trip with SFA because they are one of a few that is licensed to take us offshore. Because the weather god didn't get the message, we stayed in Sarasota Bay. Even so, Captain Sam and First Mate Will made it a very pleasant experience! They took us to a great fishing spot until equally knowing dolphins decided to join the party. They took us to couple of other spots that were good fishing! Capt. Sam definitely knew where good fishing spots were with the given tides and specific baits for different fish. You know I'm just not that into fishing so it was all blah blah good fighting fish blah blah bait blah blah snapper....was all sushi to me. They were nice and patient with me and showed me how to bait, hold the pole, reel etc. Flexible they were with our request to cruise around afterwards. I was just happy they had a speedy boat that was clean, comfortable and took us to cool spots that you can only get to with boats. My BIL and friends who are avid fishermen though were impressed with SFA! They iced our caught fish until we safely got back. +++. Service was safe, professional and friendly! SFA provided the poles, baits and safety gear. Capt. Sam and FM Will were super helpful! ++ Price was competitive. +. Parking was free. Over all, we had a lot of fun fishing and boating! We'll definitely hire SFA again and hopefully to the deep blue next time!

Captain Jason put us on the fish early, and we started the day catching some sea trout. We moved to where we were all catching snook, and after catching scores of snook that were just short of being keepers, we moved on, leaving all the fun of catching snook behind. Captain Jason relocated to a new site where we caught 2 nice slot-sized redfish keepers. It was another enjoyable fishing charter with Captain Jason Wightman that provided us with plenty of nice filets for several great fish dinners I would highly recommend Grand Tarpon Charters for any fishing trip you are planning. Our first impression was he was very professional and knows what he is doing when it comes to fishing. He took us fishing for 3/4 days with his clean and spacious fishing boat. We caught lots of snook, trout, and snapper. You can tell he has many years of experience and takes pride in letting his clients have the best experience by watching us cast our lines meticulously. His equipment were first class and the boat was very stable. The weather was not so promising that day but he made sure were safe. Luckily, we were able to get back into land without getting rained on. I want to highlight that he did not try to catch a fish himself that day because he focuses on his clients and coaches them how to be successful.
