The colorful, charming town of Clonakilty was recommended to me by a friend with ties in Ireland. I'm so glad we went, the town is utterly adorable! I found Bay View House via Lonely Planet's Ireland guidebook, where we stayed for 1 night in July 2012. My husband and I were traveling sans car, so walkability was very important for us when selecting a B&B, and Bay View House was a quick 3-minute walk from the town center. The house is lovely, impeccably clean with beautifully manicured gardens. We saw guests sitting out for a spot of tea, reading the paper in the gardens while we were there, so relaxing!
Upon arrival, we were greeted by our friendly hosts and led to an enormous room (by far the largest B&B room we stayed at in Ireland). We apparently stayed in the "triple room," where there a sizable king bed, as well as two twins, and a spacious bathroom. Out our large bay windows was a gorgeous, sweeping view of Clonakilty Bay. Breakfast was delicious, hot coffee, and Clonakilty's famous black pudding which my husband loved. Definitely recommend at least a 1-night stop over in this delightful village. read more
