And he was NOT "taught" anything. He's a naturally good singer, so he sang well. They did NOT provide any voice training. I was hoping they would coach him on movement and dance basics but they did NOT. In summer camp, kids with smaller parts just sit around, there is no coaching to fill their time. They just "play games". In short, it's a lot like everything else. They provide a platform. If the child is naturally talented, motivated and lands a good part it's great. For the rest, it's an activity to check off.

Teacher Ish was able to help him develop his story further and even to the point of publishing as a book later on. That inspired him to want to keep writing and develop more stories. The theater class was so fun. The kids were able to experience all the aspects of theater performance. From remembering lines, character interaction, voice projection, performing in front of a large audience and much more. Teacher Ish had good control of the class. Her advice on how to carry themselves for the play will benefit their character development well into adulthood. There was an assistant, Mitchell, who was very helpful, and plays the guitar. One thing that was challenging was to try to go to all the classes/rehearsals. But it worked out at the end and the show was funny and engaging. I strongly recommend this class. She really took the time to get to know my son & connect with him. American High School Performing arts is a student theatre company at American High. Each year, he does a great job directing each school plays and musicals, and Mr. Wong does a great job coordinating the music that plays in the background of the plays. Despite not seeing any of the play or musicals in 9th grade or 10th grade, I did saw the best musicals in 11th and 12th grade. The lead character in some of those musicals was Julia Lyell. She is one of the best AHSPA performers I've ever seen. I would recommend others who attend American High School to see one of those musicals.

Though they started this problem with an air purifier, it didn't work and finally we had to take her out. In general, this school would probably be suitable only for kids who want a more fun filled and less structured approach experience. Parents who are looking for serious training or an all round environment should opt for another school.
