My friend and I stopped there on our way to Liverpool from York this past summer. We were there before noon (when they open) but the staff was very kind and let us in about 20 minutes early.
We were keen on ordering something traditional. I got the rag pudding and my friend ordered a steak pie. The food was delicious. I would have preferred that they not cover my fries in gravy, but it was still really good. We sat at the bar, and within a few minutes of opening the bar was crowded with the locals on their lunch hour.
We got our first taste of a traditional bitter, and enjoyed it with our meals. Again, the bartender and staff were delightful, and we were happy with our brief stop there. read more
