$30.62 with tax: two-meat plate with an upcharge for the ribs and brisket…read more
First, please don't take the 3 stars as a bad review. It's not. There was nothing wrong with the BBQ, and I'd absolutely eat here again. For me, the rating came down more to value, portion size, and personal preference than anything being poorly executed.
When the plate landed, my first thought was that there could have been a little more protein. I mean, I had just paid about $30 and was also charged an upcharge for the ribs and brisket. The sides were generous, though, so it wasn't like I left hungry.
Brisket: The chunks were sweet and moist. The slices were just okay on their own, but the sauce helped. In hindsight, I probably would have asked for cuts from the round rather than the flat. But I wasn't asked, and I didn't think to ask.
Ribs: Also fine. Nothing wrong with them, but they didn't make me stop and think, that I'd be licking my fingers.
The thing about BBQ for me is it's easy to eat and make, but you can't exactly decide at 5 p.m. that you're craving BBQ for dinner. But I appreciate what goes into it and what they are doing here.
The sides were generous. The slaw was fresh and crisp, and I really liked how it cut through the richness and boldness of the meats. The mac & cheese wasn't quite my style. I like mine extra cheesy, gooey, and sticky. This one seemed to lean more toward a roux-based cheese sauce. Which makes sense because roux-based sauces tend to hold a smoother texture and separate less when they're stored and reheated. It just wasn't my jam. I ate it, though, but I'd choose something different next time.
This was a very easy lunch visit. I ordered my meal, and it arrived shortly after my first trip to the pickle station. Service was fast. There was no real line to speak of, and I arrived after the typical lunch rush, but all the tables were clean.
The parking lot is the way to go. There are about 20 spaces and there isn't really street parking, so plan accordingly.
But the thing that really stood out to me had nothing to do with my plate. Someone arrived with their well behaved dog, and one of the restaurant employees offered the dog a bowl of water and a piece of brisket. That kind of hospitality gets noticed.
It's a small gesture, but those are the details that make a restaurant memorable. It felt genuinely kind and welcoming, and honestly, that's something I'll remember longer than whether I preferred the mac & cheese.
Bottom line is it's a solid BBQ spot, generous sides, fast service, and some genuinely nice hospitality.
