You will regret seeing Dr. Amshel. If you want a competent medical marijuana doctor, I suggest you…read moresee MMTC of Florida at https://www.mmtcfl.com/ Dr. Amshel prescribes 1/8 of medical marijuana compared to what two other competent doctors prescribe. He is not RISKING HIS LICENSE if he does just as the other two doctors do. Dr. Amshel, you couldn't pay me to return to your practice. I'm warning others so they don't face the same disappointment that I have faced.

I went to Dr. Amshel for a second opinion and based on a previous doctor's records he said I needed…read moreto have gall bladder surgery. I could not eat, lost 40 pounds, constant abdominal pain, anemic hemoglobin of 8.0, urinary tract infections, and a fecal test showing blood in my bowels, he still felt it was my gall bladder. After an endoscopy and then a colonoscopy, his findings saw nothing wrong. Surgery was scheduled but I couldn't wait. I went to the emergency room at St. Joseph's in Riverview, Florida and they suggeted gastroparesis. They sent me home. The next week i went to Advent Health Emergency in Riverview . They did an endoscopy and couldn't see because so much blood clouded the view. By this time, I lost another 15 lbs and weighed 94 lbs. My hemoglobin dropped further to 6.0 or below. They drained the blood from my stomach and repeated the endoscopy 5 days later and found a duodenal ulcer so large that it blocked my stomach from emptying. It was so large and there was so much scar tissue thst it would never open again ,confirmed by one more endoscopy at a later date. I had surgery to cut a new hole in my stomach and connect to my intestines. After 17 days in the hospital, blood transfusions and a drain through my nose to my stomach, I am finally healing and still have my gallbladder. No more pain. I ended up having a Laparoscpic Gatrojejunosomy. Sorry two doctors and one emergency room found nothing. Thanks to my nurse practitioner, Alexis Scott, at Cooper Family Medical who followed my case diligently, i persisted to find the answer.

Having worked in the medical field for over 20 years, I know how frustrating insurance issues can be, but Charlene handled everything with patience, kindness, and professionalism, never once showing frustration. It's rare to experience this level of care and follow-through, especially at intake. Truly exceptional service.

The experience left me with unanswered questions and significant frustration, so I asked my primary care physician for a referral and was sent to Dr. Morris Hanan. Dr. Hanan's office scheduled me within a week (we coordinated timing so my most recent test results were available). I came prepared with records, test results, and many questions. Rather than simply accepting the prior diagnosis, Dr. Hanan carefully reviewed my information and asked thoughtful questions about why I believed I had that condition. After evaluating everything, he explained that he was not convinced the original diagnosis was correct and outlined a more measured approach. He recommended a structured dietary plan (lean white meats and cooked vegetables/fruits, avoiding fried foods) and asked me to track my intake and symptoms. Within days, I experienced noticeable improvement. While I am still in the evaluation process, the progress has been encouraging. What stands out most is his responsiveness. He has personally returned my follow-up calls promptly to clarify questions and provide guidance. In my most recent call, he advised gradual reintroduction of foods while continuing to monitor symptoms and suggested a follow-up visit in a few weeks. I appreciate his thoughtful, evidence-based approach and his willingness to reassess assumptions rather than immediately labeling a diagnosis. His staff has also been professional and efficient. If you are looking for a gastroenterologist in Tampa, I would recommend Dr. Hanan.
