This was our dinner stop on the way to Volkenroda. A Bavarian restaurant in middle Germany. It was one of the few places that made me drool and wish I were omnivorous again, watching my brother in law gnaw at his "hackensaw". I call it that, because I can never remember the German word for it. It's actually the pig trotters or a piece of meat around a big bone like you would see in one of the Flintstone movies. We made reservations in advance. Unfortunately to the Germans the concept of a host is unknown to them. You walk in the restaurant and need to browse to seat yourself or I. Our case find the reserved table. Definitely not a welcoming atmosphere. Plus: every other table which would seat 6 was used by 2 people only. As they are not seated here people tend to use what they see fit for themselves. The restaurant could make more profit and increase happiness by seating people according to the server capacity and free space. We had to wait to get our bill as the service doesn't really race to service the customer. If they have one table with more rotation on happy customer, they would increase the profit. Wonderful experience! We had a table outside in the sun. Great! Fireplace inside makes the place cosy. Feels like close to the alps! Service surprised us. Above average in Germany! Beyond awesome experience. Pork steak was incredible. Service was quick and helpful. Warm atmosphere, surprisingly great stop on the mountain top in the Harz National Park. Great views out the back down the mountains. Definite stop for any travelers! read more
