Clarke's have a really good selection of meat wehther you like it sliced, diced, chucked, minced, casseroled, braised and the prices are not silly. The pork, beek and lamb I have bought from there has all been from Wales. The mince meat I had looked low in fat. Lamb is always my favourite. If you are not a great cook, its very hard to go wrong with a pre prepared lamb kebab on the skewer with different coloured peppers. Their home made beef burgers are just 70p each. They are more than happy to give you the meaty facts if you want to go in and ask about what you are buying. Bon appetite.

I mean, imagine having a third of a butchers and two thirds of a bakery), D C Scott manages to offer great value for money in both sides. Their butcher's section offers the finest quality cuts of meat available at great prices considering how good the meat is, giving their supermarket rivals a good run for their money. The bakery section is similarly well-priced, with D C Scott and his sons offering a good selection of baked goods that are all freshly baked and delicious. The staff there are friendly and helpful and as it's a local business they manage to offer a very personal service, with regular customers being remembered as well as their orders.

My…read moreflatmate and I set ourselves a challenge - each time we went to Worldwide we would buy an item of fruit or veg which we had never tried before, bring it home, attempt to prepare it and sample it. This led to some rather funny looks at the counter. One one occasion, on asking our Kenyan friend for cooking information, he explained to us that they probably laughed at us because *no-one* buys just one bhindi. We soon learnt from this school-boy error. As well as fruit and veg I always picked up pitta, naan and other foreign breads here, but it's probably not the place to go for a reasonably priced loaf of Warburton's. They also sell exciting fizzy drinks from all over the world, baklava, mango lassi and every herb, spice, bean or pulse you could think of, all of which I can recommend. Things that I have purchased from here and regretted include tinned palak paneer, a tray of 30 very unethical eggs, weird smelling incense, cheese and DIY henna. As a vegetarian I've never looked at the meat counter. But I know that my Muslim flatmate bought her meat there as it is all Halal and my Chinese flatmates bought their meat there because they sold all the disgusting-sounding parts of animals that they liked to boil up in stews, such as chicken feet. I challenge you to visit Worldwide and not to come away with more than you went in for. Even the fruit and veg is priced so that you end up with 3 cucumbers (£1) rather than the one (50p) you went in for!

The farm shop is quite small but they sell their own beef (mince, steaks etc), lamb (chops etc), eggs, veg, pies (beef and cheese and onion), sausages as well as local preserves and chutney. Their main business is their cafe, which has a fantastic selection of small snacks (sandwiches, tea cakes, homemade soup, cream scones etc) to larger meals including salads, all day breakfasts, homemade beef and lamb burgers and daily specials. The food is all either from their own produce and meat at the farm or locally grown and sourced when possible. You can taste the difference and all the food is fresh and tasty. Their selection of cakes is fantastic, all home made and yummy. Last time I went they had crumbles, fruit pies, chocolate biscuit cake, sticky toffee pudding and many more I can't remember. But the one thing that I adore the most about this place is their own homemade ice cream! It is the best ice cream I have ever come across, it's not overly sweet and the flavours are great quality. The choice is huge and changes nearly every week but they can include: cherry and yogurt, strawberry cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding, hot cross bun, double chocolate chip, chocolate mint chip, strawberry, toffee fudge, sherry trifle, grandma's special (sweets perfect for kids), farmhouse vanilla, cookies and cream, liquorice... the list goes one. They also do sobets. As well as this huge selection you can buy cakes to take home, anything that's in the cake counter as well as homemade scones and cookies. It has a large outdoor area for kids to play with lots of toys and slides while adults can sit nearby in the sunshine watching the nearby cows and sheep in a field. The whole place just has a wonderful, friendly feel. Only caution I would suggest is if like me you don't have kids and like a bit of peace and quiet, either go early (before 12pm) on weekends and avoid on bank holiday Mondays as it gets very busy with families.

Their prices are a bit expensive compared to the supermarkets, but you're definitely paying for the quality of their products. The shop itself has a traditional butcher shop look and is always clean and hygienic, which is always reassuring whilst the staff behind the counter are highly skilled as well as friendly. There's not much to choose between here and Battersby's around the corner, but I'd recommend supporting either of them before heading to your local supermarket for your meat.

Cumberland, which cooked up beautifully without an ounce of excess grease, none of the usual "scum" that escapes when you grill bangers, and they tasted amazing. Definitely worth repeat visits to work my way through their entire range. Also have a good range of "semi-prepared" meat products, e.g. marinated steaks/chops. Spotlessly clean shop and really friendly, informative staff who are more than happy to give advice and recommendations. Makes me proud to be a carnivore!
